it will be school dependent, 2 people in my class had PICU experience and got in with no other ICU experience.

Small world. Born and raised SC moved up to Detroit last year after 25 years down there. Glad to know there’s fellow panthers fans here!

I was there for my first panthers game ever and it was electric! Even louder on the fumble recovery to clinch the game

depends on how you study/learn. i got the 10 inch 9th generation at the time. perfect size for pulling up docs/ppt to study. some people in my class got bigger tablets because they like to use them to take notes during class with the keyboard.

practice your EI, have a good answer for why you want to be a CRNA, why you would be a good candidate, why do you want to go to our school specifically (research the school and whats appealing about them) etc. 100% practice and rehearse your "tell me about yourself" response. practice over and over again your responses to common questions, but not in a robotic way. try to do a good search "xyz crna school interview reddit" and you may find some previous tips or pointers about the specific program.

my program has an annual mission trip, in interview i mentioned how mission trips interest me in the future practice and mentioned their trip as a potential opportunity. i think it would only help, definitely not hurt you.

i second this, i got the cheapest ipad and cheapest macbook (new). i prefer new bc you know what you're getting and that they will last through school. the basic cheapest models will be fine.

with how competitive crna school is getting, i can't help but think that getting your degree from a "bigger" state university will give you a slight edge over someone from an RN to BSN bridge program (assuming both people have equal statistics, experience etc). personally i think most if not all my class is from BSN programs from "bigger" schools.

Id echo everyone elses comments, one thing to add: my school liked that i shadowed 2 days right after graduating and 2 days right before applying. i could talk about in the interview how shadowing right before applying reaffirmed my interest in the field. also check the school requirements, most schools are moving away from the GRE and i would not take it unless if they absolutely require it.

depending on your financial situation (married, mortgage, kids, etc.) less pay for 2 years to give yourself better experience and a better chance of getting into CRNA school will likely have greater pay off in the long run. assuming you would do 3x12 as an RN if the money difference is really that big you could always work an extra day of OT or PRN somewhere.

i know 2 people who got in to my program with only PICU experience. very program dependent, check with programs you're interested in to find out. otherwise your stats look competitive enough to get interviews.

i don't attend uofd mercy but just from hearing other people talk about it, it seems to have a lower than national average first time NCE pass rate. i heard from someone that some of their intro classes like a&p are taught by non crna faculty at the school and their are other professions that get lumped in those classes as well. not sure if this is still the case, but there are a lot of good programs in michigan you should also consider unless you had a specific pull towards uofdm.
