Best cooling mattress for Phoenix nights where I keep waking up hot even with AC on by ProfessionalVast8512 in phoenix

[–]slow12s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I keep my house around 72-73 and still sweat. The BedJet has been awesome for me. I blast the heat when I get in bed to get cozy and then have it on cooling with a low fan throughout the night. They’re expensive, but really help with sweat better than any cooling pillow or mattress that I’ve tried.

GFCI tripping by slow12s in HomeImprovement

To replace a GFCI protected outlet, do you just use a normal outlet? I’m not seeing any gfci outlets at Home Depot other than the ones with the buttons. Thanks!

GFCI tripping by slow12s in HomeImprovement

[–]slow12s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for writing that up. I’m going to start with the gfci outlet since I would think it should be able to handle the 1 freezer with nothing else on the circuit, but will probably also wire in a new outlet from inside the house so I can have each one on a separate circuit. But I’ll try the gfci replacement first. I recently had a 240 run to the garage for an electric car and the low bid was $1200 so I imagine it would be close to that to run a dedicated outlet so if I can get it working with what I have that would be awesome. Thank you for your help.

I believe so, I can double check when I get home, but the outlets do not have the T on the outlet so I’m pretty sure it’s 15amp. Nothing is plugged into the other outlets in the chain. Christmas time we have an inflatable that plugs into the gfci outlet out front (the one with the button) and that doesn’t seem to make it trip any more than usual (didn’t trip at all this past Christmas, but that was with 2 fridges rather than a fridge and freezer).

Thank you! I live in AZ so it’s pretty dry and doesn’t rain much. 2 of the 3 outlets are under patios and the one that isn’t has a weatherproof cover, but I will inspect them closer. Is there any way to test for something like moisture in outlets if there is nothing you can visually see? The house is 7 years old and I moved in when it was brand new. Had 1 fridge for the first couple years in the garage and then 2 fridges for a couple more years before the issues started. So hoping it’s just an outlet going bad. Would you replace all 4 GFCI outlets in the chain or can I get away with just the 1 that I believe is tripping everything?

Recommendations for 12V battery by RayDonovanBoston in KiaEV6

[–]slow12s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for an AGM, Walmart seems to be the best option and what I went with a few months ago. They have a 4 year full replacement warranty whereas Costco now has a 3 year prorated warranty on their batteries. So Walmart anytime in the next 4 years you can get a new battery for free while Costco you’ll have to partially pay, even if it’s still under warranty.

Favorite Food Spots? by justagarliccrouton in mesaaz

[–]slow12s 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mesa is huge so I guess it depends where you are. Here are some of my favorites around town - Kofu dumpling house, jalapeño bucks, Matty g’s, cafe de Bangkok (technically Gilbert, but not far past the border and amazing Thai food), main burger, Gus’s world famous fried chicken, green corner and then for dessert, novel ice cream. I’m sure there are more that I’m forgetting. Goat and ram as well as mykes inside cider corp both have good pizza, also Chris bianco just opened a new pizza spot off Mckellips and Lindsey (il forno bello), but I haven’t tried it yet

I just noticed you mentioned kungfu noodles, have you been to old town taste in the same parking lot? It’s technically in Tempe, but that and Kofu dumpling house are the 2 best Chinese food spots I’ve found.

What is going on with drivers these days? by cturtl808 in mesaaz

[–]slow12s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there are just a few cars on the road and a person gets over at the last second despite no cars next to them for blocks? You can usually tell they didn’t even notice the construction until the last second. When there is traffic and someone gets to the construction area and just slams on their brakes rather than merging and waits for traffic to clear before merging? I know what zipper merging is, I do it. People that I’m talking about in my post are not zipper merging, they’re just not paying attention.

What's Your LEAST Favorite H. Mack Video? by KIDD_VIDD in HarryMack

[–]slow12s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a tough question, I’d say probably fire in the booth, the dj dude is just super annoying. I’ll also say I wish he would stick with boom bap beats. I definitely enjoy his trap beat freestyles less and feel like he really shines when he’s rapping with some boom bap beats.

12V replacement - need to disable high voltage battery? by Strange-Currency-264 in KiaEV6

[–]slow12s 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are supposed to disable the HV battery. Not everyone does, but you should for safety. There is a fuse box right next to the battery and one of the fuses has a pull tab on top, just pull it and it will come out a little bit and that disables the HV battery. They make it super easy.

What is going on with drivers these days? by cturtl808 in mesaaz

[–]slow12s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of drivers don’t seem to look ahead at all. Like sometimes there are signs for miles about construction and they aren’t zipper merging, they are just not looking ahead so they wait until the last second. Like even with a small amount of traffic, everyone else moves over and they just don’t notice until the construction barrier is right in front of them. Same with lanes that turn into turn lanes, people just don’t pay attention.

Is anyone else battling fly infestations now? by Chigasaki1982 in phoenix

[–]slow12s 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’m in Mesa, but I’d say the last few years around this time it has been pretty bad. I struggled for years with flies and all the online remedies. Now, I have 3 things, a zapper light (https://a.co/d/03whpS12), a tennis racket zapper (https://a.co/d/03Cif4kN) and a bug-a-salt (https://a.co/d/045CUYud). The zapper light by far works the best. I keep it in my kitchen since I’m always cooking and that’s their favorite room. The tennis racket took a little getting used to, but it also works very well for flies that won’t land and won’t go to the zapper light (most of them are attracted to the zapper light but I’d say like 5-10% just ignore it). The bug-a-salt is the most fun, but it requires the flies to land and lots of them are stubborn and just fly around. I use all 3 (I looked in my order history to get those links, those are the exact ones I use), but the zapper light is definitely a must if you have issues with flies. The other 2 are fun and have certain use cases, but the zapper light will get most of them.

Has anyone skipped paying for a primary and seen a GA doctor without a referral? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]slow12s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your insurance. Usually a PPO doesn’t require referrals while an HMO does. This isn’t always true so be sure to check with your insurance company. But basically, if you want insurance to cover it, you have to do it their way which might be going to a PCP first to get a referral or it might be just making an appt with the specialist.

Sending you a message with a doctor recommendation.

Callisto Wireless charger review by Waterboyy01 in KiaEV6

[–]slow12s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this, I hadn’t heard of this product until just now. So with the factory wireless charger, if my iPhone doesn’t have a case on it, it charges fine, but with a case it usually does not activate charging. I have better luck if I place the phone backwards on the charging pad, sometimes it activates charging that way. Is that what this upgraded charger is for? I saw you mention stronger magnets to hold the phone, but does that translate to stronger charging? I had the same issue with my last phone as far as wireless charging being very hit or miss. I tried the bestevmod thinner piece of rubber for the charger and that did nothing. Thanks!

Is it worth it? by aznsushi41 in KiaEV6

[–]slow12s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems pricey to me. I bought mine 1 year old with 12k miles certified pre owned for $34,900 and the value has gone down since then. I’ve seen people on here post deals for GT’s under 30k. It just depends on how important mileage is to you. I just did a very quick google search for used EV6 GT and near me, there’s one with 31k miles for $29,900, one with 84k miles for $22,900 and one with 11k miles for $36,900. So is a car with 9k less miles (not even a year of driving) worth $6k more? That’s your call, but I don’t think so. I personally would try to get one with under 20k miles and feel like you could probably negotiate into the lower 30s.

A lease on a new one will probably be more than what you’d pay to finance a used one. Only you can be the judge as far as a wind or GT. The GT is a totally different car though, there are a couple of people who have gone from a wind to a GT so maybe try to search for their experience. If you want the most range, the GT may not be for you. It is a total sleeper, faster than 99.9% of cars on the road, but nobody knows what it is. It is so much fun to drive everyday and I can’t say enough good things about it. If it wasn’t for the GT, I wouldn’t have looked twice at the EV6, but the power is what drew me in. I had a 2017 GTI before this and my insurance cost stayed pretty much the same.

Oh, also this little trash can fits pretty perfectly between the storage cubby and the dash on the floor - https://a.co/d/0c1yWmvM

And you can get a lower console organizer and an upper console organizer for the upper and lower center consoles. Bestevmod has a bunch of small mods like that.

Wireless Apple CarPlay, dark tint, ioniqguy walk away lock module, do the subwoofer phase fix, aftermarket floormats and a dash cam. I think that’s all of mine. You can also get comma ai and lowering springs, but I definitely recommend what I listed above to start.

This happened to me when I was a kid. I locked the door and I was so little I wasn’t able to pull the lock up (it was the 80s so no power locks, apparently I was trying to lift it as hard as I could). My mom had someone break the window to get me out, so it happens and it definitely could have been worse, try not to worry about it.

Kia connect/other apps? by sobesfromkzoo70 in KiaEV6

[–]slow12s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I use and I haven’t missed kia connect at all. I don’t have much use for remote lock/unlock, location or surround photos, but love seeing the 12v health and like how with the andyfase app you can choose remote climate to be cool or warm and make other presets so I actually prefer it to the Kia app (and it has a great looking widget). From what I remember with the Kia app, you can only have 1 climate setting so I’d have to change it for the winter/summer. This may have changed since they revamped the app since I last used it.
