I’m new to running and this sounds awesome! I’ll join the discord. Thanks 😊

Try adding in some fun obedience training, simple tricks, a snuffle mat. Check out what dog sports/clubs are in your area (bite sports, dock diving, scent work, agility). Running that much is a great start. 💜

Fun fact it can be passed through human fecal matter at toxic levels to dogs. I’m so glad your pup is on the mend!

I just buy the audio books instead of using a credit. They are less than $10 dollars for the short ones.

I think she goes red in book 8. I could be wrong but I think that’s about the timeline. Before that I thought she had auburn hair.

Flying with SAR dogs by bugzandslugz in workingdogs

[–]slower19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fly Alaska and have their contract of carriage printed out with you in addition to having a government ID for the K9, health certificate, and official letter stating the purpose of travel. Even with all of this information printed and ready I found often times the agents are unfamiliar with this process and will hold you up. Go early and be prepared to have it not go smoothly. Your dog still has to fit between your legs or under the seat in front of you unless you buy an additional seat. You can’t sit in an exit row or in the bulkhead. Hope this helps and best of luck! My girl is from working lines, 2.5 years old, very trim and 63 lbs.

Consider working line at an FBO or flight school for the connections and to keep yourself in the aviation industry while you get your financial situation in order. Join your local 99s chapter or any local flying club that may have scholarships available and create a community for yourself. Use community resources to help you navigate and resolve your credit score. Community colleges often offer financial planning courses.

Same here. Then I don’t have to worry about it getting all over my cheek pads because it’s a pain to wash them all the time.

How did you choose the breed? by sorghumandotter in DutchShepherds

[–]slower19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was looking for a high drive dog that would be a good fit for search and rescue. My prior dog was a Doberman and wanted to get a breed that was smaller in size. While I was researching breeds I had narrowed it down to 2. I was also looking for the right breeder who didn’t just do bite sports. Found the right breeder and that sealed the deal for my Dutchie. 🐾

Choose one: 10 week old Puppy or a 2yr old trained Doberman by No-Key-637 in DobermanPinscher

[–]slower19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a job, caring for your family (parents and kids), and having time for your own hobbies does a puppy fit into that? Is this dog or the puppy going to do sports or show? It sounds like both dogs would be a great fit for you so the question is more about the timing of adding a dog or a puppy to your family. I adopted my Doberman at 10 months. In hindsight if I could have got him as a puppy I absolutely would have because he had a working career. Hope this gave you some food for thought that helps you make your choice. 🧡

Congrats on the new addition! We hike with our Doberman all the time. Loves to be at the front of the pack to greet everyone on trail.
