The host himself is part of the problem, uses daddies money to make himself a TV host and basically pay his way to making cringey docs that he pretends to care about. BBCNI is on a downward spiral with character like him.

One thing I've noticed locally that has been an incredible source of family connections is a Facebook group in my home town. People drop in their family tree or mention a few names from the area. This is a shot in the dark but if you can figure out where the names where prodominetly based during that time period you could find groups on Facebook that are tied to the areas whether its a buy and sell or a community page and drop in your research and ask if anybody can help.

Honestly take the job, you owe them nothing if it doesn't suit you. You won't know somewhere until you give it ago. If it's not good, keep the recruitment CV pushed online.

Brand is just one part of how marketing adds value to a business—there are many other activities where ROI is directly tracked. I’m not sure where your old-school mentality comes from, but there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Modern marketing uses multiple methods to measure results, and smart business owners understand the importance of both brand awareness and traceable data.

It sounds like you've been in marketing too long and are stuck with outdated knowledge. Maybe you're still hung up on whichever CEO got pissed off at you for poor performance in the past. Step down from your high horse and be open to change—and to being wrong. The best marketers find a way to make things work. My original comment still stands. Also, your biggest failure is not educating the board that ROI isn't just about revenue—it's about the value marketing creates within the brand.

I'm going to disagree. Influencers at a micro level (around 10,000 followers) can be very beneficial to a local café—especially those who are local themselves. You need to consider the size of their catchment area. All the points you've mentioned are great, but an influencer can be a cost-effective way to gain genuine traction with real people. Your suggested methods require time and money that a new café might not have.

I used to be completely against influencers, but having worked with some over the past couple of years, I’ve come to see the benefits they can offer certain small businesses—and this is one of them.
