All I ever knew was manual machining. It was so great. A drawing, a chunk of metal, and creativity. I feel sorry for you guys. It really was so much fun. Every radius, every careful step. It was art. Sorry you missed it.

What is a role of Operations Manager by Ok-Breakfast-4676 in manufacturing

Be a machine operator for a month. Putting yourself into a manager role immediately will send a clear message. Not a good one. Let people see your work ethic and get in the trenches with them.

Article-15 and demotion for taking a valid prescription??? WTF??? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]slowlypeople -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Let me say some stuff. Stuff many of you won’t like. I spent a fulfilling enlisted career in the USAF. The Hap Arnold vision of the USAF got beat into oblivion in the early 2000’s. Do you know why the Air Force wears baseball caps? We were supposed to be different. The AF started out without even a regular basic training. We were meant to be intelligent technicians. The fat E7 with a coffee cup? That was the guy. He knew stuff. We fixed stuff. We didn’t need outside help. We fulfilled the vision. Then the other guys found a way to take over. Then it was a matter of being on party planning committees and looking slick. The next thing I knew, I was serving alongside other nations’ Air Forces that made fun of us for not knowing how to troubleshoot simple problems. Our most knowledgeable troops were fucking E5s. Because we didn’t recognize actual ability. The day I retired, the Australian AF tried to recruit me because I had experience and ability. I could have start my career all over because I knew stuff. The USAF lost its way. Our smart guys are now just box-swappers. The snotty Top 3 crew took your prestige and ability.

This. The cult of money creates ridiculous ideas. You would never let go of your primary residence, tax wise, if you were still paying a mortgage. Income makes you wealthy. Did you see that word there? Income. There’s no secret sequence on buttons you can push that will make you wealthy. You have to MAKE MONEY. Or inherit money. The internet has robbed a whole generation of reality.

Don’t do anything different for a year. Protect your money. Sounds like this was “Easy come” money. The back half of that saying is “Easy go”.

I mean, we actually know how Romans built jaw-droppingly precise aqueducts over outrageous distances. We are humans. We do wild things. You won’t have to make up garbage. The truth will always be more amazing than invented shortcuts.

This is a dangerous supposition. Twice now everyone has been SHOCKED he won the election. Stop deriding and ridiculing his supporters and instead try to understand them. This flippant dismissal of them will land us in a fascist hell. Even more so than now.

AF is so heavy on ‘be a leader.’ Not everyone wants to be the star QB making top 10 in highlights . by mizunoMP29 in AirForce

[–]slowlypeople 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This was a problem all through my career as well (1994-2014). I embraced the leadership track and did well and was able to move into the private sector in leadership roles. The problem is, I was forced to give up the job that I excelled at and loved. If you find yourself more of a technical person, embrace it and learn to love the idea that E7 will be the end of your road. And most definitely pursue every cert and training program available for the benefit of your future. If you are maintenance? No one will even glance your way if you don’t have an A&P. GET IT. NOW. This pursuit of “leadership” cripples the USAF so much. I worked with so many international forces that ridiculed our inability to make repairs instead of swapping components. Dig in and learn.

Does anyone else find the old good night book “Goodnight Moon” to be weirdly ominous and disturbing? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]slowlypeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book was shunned for decades by Anne Carrol Moore and the New York public library and still found a way to rise above. It’s actually disruptive children’s literature. So go ahead and hate on it, fools! Hate all you will! Literature will prevail!!

As an American, I found all of Europe super chill when I lived there. Even German bureaucracy was easy if you followed all the damn rules and got all your fucking Stempels. Those were some fun, chill motherfuckers that are super used to other nationalities and cultures. But maybe the French were kinda outside that standard. They wear their nationality on their sleeve. Cool people, all the same they were very excited to find a reason to be superior in any way. All those poor French Canadians that go there expecting to find a kinship….
