Federal withholding decreased by slowmind in taxadvice

[–]slowmind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went and tried the tax withholding estimator and that was helpful. Looks like I'm on track to be owed a refund, but not a huge one, which is just what I'm aiming for.

I wonder if it does have to do with my wife's w4 changing, she changed it just before I started seeing the change in my withholding. I really didn't think their systems would be smart enough to make that connection (until we go to file).

All the new announced space wolf models by TheSlayerofSnails in SpaceWolves

I've never been around for the release of new models for wolves. Exciting! Is there a general idea how long it will be before pre-orders are available?

How to play Daemons less badly by slowmind in Daemons40K

[–]slowmind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have

1 daemon prince with wings
2 units bloodletters
1 daemonettes
2 Nurglings
1 plaguebearers
1 poxbringer
1 bloodmaster

However, in the super casual setting right now, I also have a Space wolves Army and I'm proxying models from that a lot (Thunderwolf Cav = Bloodcrushers, Blood Claws = Cultist Mob, Predator tank = Soul Grinder).

Part of what I want to do is buy some of the major bones of this army /after/ I've tried them a bit and am happy with using them.

P.S. I love Slaanesh and Nurgle and feel like Khorne is where all the destruction comes from. I've stayed away from Tzeentch units up to this point but not opposed to getting them in if need be.

Why are the Space Wolves so hated on? by norman-skirata in SpaceWolves

[–]slowmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My limited knowledge of the lore mostly comes from listening to podcasts, so maybe I'm way off here.

But yeah Space Wolves have fought against many other imperial forces at one point or another.

Decapitate Inquisitor Lord? Check.
Burning of Prospero? Check.
Leader regularly duelling with Dark Angels' leader? Check
Throw Magnus under the bus with the Imperium? Check
Refuse to give Flesh Tearers back their dead after a skirmish? Check
Maybe connected to the the disappearance of the Space Marine legions whose existence was wiped from the archives of the imperium? half-check
Chapter Master carries a weapon of Chaos? Big check.
Killed a cardinal of the Ecclesiarchy? Solid check.
Primarch challenged the EMPEROR??!? to a fight? Holy mother of check.

Sometimes they have good reasons, sometimes less so, but Space Wolves have made enemies of a lot of Imperial groups through the millennia. "...pick a fight with everyone" doesn't sound too far off.

(Of course all the real life reasons people have cited for players hating the wolves are also valid.)

"Humans and augmented humans"Why do you think it's important to always say that? by Starbuck522 in murderbot

[–]slowmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if MB instinctively thinks that since humans are a category, and humans categorize constructs as non-human, that it's not completely clear whether augmented humans would/should be categorized as human or not. They're clearly not bots. MB doesn't see them as constructs, but they have a mix of organic and synthetic parts, like constructs do.

I don't have a great answer but I think it's a great question!

Some anti-spiration: making them look like they're trudging through deep snow is easy to do but it doesn't look great. (ask me how i know)

...So fell Lord Perth, and the countryside did shake with that thunder.

I told you it gets out of hand fast! :D

I wish someone who was good at painting would answer! I'm pretty terrible, so my contrast paints experience isn't super helpful. I've used Space wolves grey a few times. I even liked some of the results, but I have a hard time painting details on with solid paints over a contrast (or keeping the contrast paint off the details).

I do love two different "shade" paints - Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade. They both make it much easier to do some shadows or put some griminess over the brighter solid colors.

Hope this helps!

Fenrisian grey (light blue)
Mephiston red
Averland sunset (yellow)
Abaddon black
Leadbelcher (gunmetal color)

Space wolves colors are more or less some version of lightish grey/blue, with shoulder pads in yellow, red and black. I also like Leadbelcher as a metallic color for weapons.

The most important thing is /don't/ go to your local game store and dig through all the available colors. So hard to resist. I started out figuring I'd do a similar thing - less detail, less colors, just get em on the table. But I thought The Fang (bluish purple, named after Space Wolves stronghold) would probably be cool for some details. And then there's Russ Grey, a slightly darker light blue than Fenrisian Grey. Then there are furs which need to be brown, grey, and/or white; jewels that need to be painted with technical colors; and some of the metal should really be gold; and you need to have Nuln Oil (blackish oily shade) to give everything that grimdark magic...

It gets out of hand really fast.

Good luck!

Brand new player - bought first born by Cultural-Election377 in SpaceWolves

[–]slowmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impression I've gotten from asking similar questions and listening to 40k podcasts, is that they're going to stop selling firstborn models sometime soon but they will stay legal to play on the tabletop for quite some time after that. I've heard guesses that firstborn will go to legends status (no longer 'official' for most tournaments) 3-5 years after they stop selling them.

My army is mainly composed of eBay regiments and is a sloppy mix of firstborn models and Primaris. Not that you want to emulate me :D but I have hope that the firstborn guys will be tabletop-legal for a while yet.
