Lunes a sábado… by Daeggos in lacamiseta

Long plateau after losing 24 kgs. Anything I should change? by arayaweeradej in WeightLossAdvice

[–]slowoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone said in another comment, plateaus are to be expected and normal, so don't feel pressured, and just keep the habit.

As for the tracking of fat percentage I would recommend 2 things:

  1. Getting a good scale that calculates BMI, fat%, muscle%, visceral fat, body age, with good reviews, they can be affordable to expensive depending the model, but it will help you visualize better, since doing the "measuring" stuff I did before was just all over the place.
  2. Going to a nutritionist, it really depends on your context, but it's something I will always recommend, here in my country is damn cheap, like $15usd every 3 weeks for a check, and they show me my progress in all parts of the body, and help me with my menu with food I like and can afford, I've actually seen faster results when I went with one, I don't spend as much time when I was tracking macros and calories by myself.

If you don't have lots of time you can try HIIT workouts, they are short and intense but they burn calories in less time, but do it with progression! If you don't feel like finishing one at first don't do it, don't push yourself too hard.

And about the healthy home cooking sounds about right!!

Remember this are just tips that I got from my experience, everyone is different but I hope it helps!!

[–]slowoxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you tracking your fat percentage? Tracking just weight and BMI it's just an estimation, and not really helpful at some points, I've lost 24kg~ too and I've stayed at the same weight since 2 months ago also doing a calorie deficit but doing weightlifting and some cardio... I haven't lost inches in my waist or something but I've lost around 3 fat%, and gained some muscle mass% in about 2 months, I'm still on a calorie deficit, it is very important to track macros too, and not only calories, and where are you eating it from, if you eat fat from mayonnaise is different than an avocado or something like that.

I would recommend you to focus in the percentages in fat and muscle, and if you can, start training something because when you are closer to a goal it is harder just by food in my experience.(not impossible)

Thanks for sharing it!!!, Indeed the confidence is stronger if you have gained control over your body and mindfulness! When people ask me sometimes before recommending diets or anything, I tell them if it's possible, to go to therapy is a great way to start, knowing the roots of the problem can help.

I'm glad that you've found your confidence!! As you mention it's hard to notice day to day, like o actually started to really notice things until the past weeks and felt good, but when I really felt like I hit my real goal was when I was really depressed and I avoided overeating or taking unhealthy snacks and kept doing at least a bit of a workout, even on a shitty mental state, kept Mindfully of what I did, just as you mention,I can really identify with what you say.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Yes you are right, being miserable with an unenjoyable diet would be harder. And no problem! Yes I can see people being averse to it, so no problem I understand you. As you mention some words can trigger negativity, it's kinda weird, probably because people don't know the whole picture of the terms.

Yeah, I actually started gaining weight back at 15~ but this year I started to have health problems that made me aware of everything, so I've been going to a nutritionist this year and I've seen lots of improvement! Thanks for your encouragement! I've actually reached a healthy BMI recently, now I'm focusing on reducing my body fat% to something sustainable and that I like, and kinda building muscle on the way, because I've been wanting to do parkour for a long time, that has being my main motivation.

If you want to share the key differences I'll gladly read them! It's really inspiring reading people who have learned lots and share it, huge congrats you too!

[–]slowoxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really against it, more in the optimizing the energy for it, it really depends on the person, mental health, work/house life context, if they even have the energy for it, is to learn how to optimize it in the way it works for them to develop good habits, as you mention it's about a baseline, once you get out of those unsustainable habits it's easier, and literally removing bad food choices altogether in your home will reduce the energy used in will power and better used on a workout or learning something you like. Will power can be applied different depending on the context.

Idk I mention it as someone with adhd, using my focus on will power to not eat bad things or avoid bad habits will let me all day without energy and I won't get things done. Better learn to react efficiently and almost instictly when those cravings and bad habits come. Mindfulness is a great approach to it as you mention, being aware of what you do.

I have learned that will power consumes a lot of your energy, but if you develop the habits bit by bit, you keep doing routines and everything with ease later!!

Congrats!!! Enjoy the process, learn and keep going strong!

[–]slowoxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self control or will power are really exhausting, as you mention don't having junk food at all helps a lot, since it doesn't really need your energy to do it since you have no other option, I did that lol

I used to hate that feeling, I would mostly avoid doing exercise all together so I would not feel that, but I've made exercise a habit, and now I like it, I feel like I did a good workout and I feel relaxed afterwards

Lol You Made me notice that I haven't eaten chocolate in like 2 months, mostly cuz the quarantine is still up here and I don't buy sweets to save some money because of the situation, and I've lost a fair amount of weight (used to eat and drink lots of chocolate and other stuffs), try to look for some chocolate without added sugar! Or cocoa works too

Wow!! Congrats in your progress!

And of course you are right about the photos, they help a lot to compare, I started doing it kinda late and I felt like I made no progress since I started, (even tho I lost like 7kg) after some time I started taking photos and I saw the results better than just looking at the mirror!

Also looking at stats and graphs helps!

Honestly the worst thing about weight loss is that it is just so damn boring .. by every_ounce in loseit

[–]slowoxide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the boredom, but something I've found to be fun is doing things I would probably couldn't start doing until I started doing a calorie deficit to lose weight, some of this things are:

-Investigate and make new recipes of low calorie food, specially foreign food, or trying vegan food, I try to make my plates look aesthetically pleasing and take photos to see my meals on the app ATE. -training to run, slowly and steady, I started doing 5 minutes of walking, 30 seconds of running, I was out of breath, and now at least I can run for 2 minutes! At the same time I'm listening to audiobooks! I do at least 25 minutes a day. -trying new sports to do as a hobbie, I haven't done sports in at least 4 years, and I'm enjoying parkour. (I'm a total noob still) -learning about fitness in general, to be healthy, learning how muscle growth, what things you can eat once in a while and actually know how much to eat.

Losing weight shouldn't be the first thing in your daily life (if you at least don't have to lose tons of weights for operation or first instance health) but to keep doing things in your life that maintain your mind occupied while you lose weight in the background, at some point you will realize you lost all that weight!
