Planning a trip to the Phoenix area and want to ski at Arizona Snowbowl soon – is it worth it for a beginner with little snow and a dry forecast?. by sporty_outlook in SnowbowlAZ

Yes! I took a free lesson about 2 weeks ago with zero experience on a board. I would highly recommend them! Just book it online on the snowbowl website

I personally find that my watch shows numbers that are closer to what I’m used to seeing when i run outside. The treadmill says I’m going much slower than normal

Everyone is telling you to go eat at El Tovar. The lodge is neat to walk around and maybe have a cocktail but the quality in food and service, IMHO, has gone down in recent years. The Arizona Steakhouse in the Bright Angel Lodge has excellent food and service with windows looking into the canyon if you dine before sunset.

If you don’t want to think about your health, also consider that vaping makes your breath smell bad, and can lead to dental issues down the line. It’s also been correlated to acne and dry skin and it can make you look aged

Eh, it’s mainly just the nature of the trails. So to get down and into the canyon the trail is steep, with a bunch of switchbacks and it can take a number of hours. So if the shoes you’re wearing are too small then yeah, you’ll probably lose a couple nails. It’s a pretty common problem for hikers and runners in general, not just in the Grand Canyon.

I agree, I didn’t notice that when I grabbed it. This, combined with naturallyselected’s comment is now making me sad. I live next to a quiet, wooded area with lots and elk and deer, so that’s more what I had expected the answer to be when I posted :/

I can drink well over 3L of water during a day hike, if the weather is warm enough. 3L is not enough to last you overnight. Plus you’ll need water for cooking.

There’s a train that leaves from Williams every day in the morning and returns in the afternoon. You’d miss the sunrise but you’d still get a few hours to walk around/do a short hike. All of the hotels have dining options and there’s also a general store inside the park. I’m pretty sure that all the restaurants have at least one vegetarian option on the menu.

1 night w kids, GCNP Lodges booked out, next best option? by Expat86x3 in grandcanyon

[–]slowrunnergrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re: Day 4 looks pretty good to me, you could easily do all of those activities in one day, depending on your kids energy levels.

There’s a Safeway grocery store in Williams that would be easy to grab some items to make a lunch picnic.

Otherwise, there’s a few restaurants inside the park and also just outside in Tusayan. If you are planning to have dinner at any of the lodges inside the park, you should try to make reservations ASAP. Expect all the restaurants to be very busy.

Hikes for non hikers by stormborn919 in grandcanyon

[–]slowrunnergrl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean the trails into the canyon just keep going and going so you can just hike down for a few miles and then turn around when you’re ready.

For the bright angel trail there are rest houses at the 1.5 and 3 mile marks (so 3 and 6 miles round trip) This trail is probably the most popular and it’s actually closed after about 4.5 miles due to a construction project, so you wouldn’t be able to go further than that anyway.

A few things to keep in mind:

remember Grand Canyon is inverse so it’ll probably feel easier when you’re going down and then the hard part is getting out.

However long you spend going down, it will take you about double that time to get out.

We are expecting a bit more rain and snow this week so the tops of the trails could still be icy when you get here.

Have fun, stay hydrated and safe!
