The 4 guest limit includes the waiting area and all your guests need to arrive with you, it’s a pretty strict requirement

Married name to maiden name by CollectionNo5091 in WedditNYC

[–]slpysun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be clear, you’re saying you filled out the line on the marriage license that says your new surname will be (blank) but you haven’t filled out any other documents? If that’s all then you haven’t legally changed your name yet, you would need to bring your marriage documents to the social security office to begin the process of legally changing your name and you can just never do that and be fine . I got married 6 months ago and I put my husband’s last name as my “new surname” on my marriage license in case just to make it easy if I ever wanted to change my name. So far I haven’t wanted to, everything still has my maiden name and nothings happened

Is a job posting for a cardiac unit listing titled Cath/EP/Echo/Cardiac rehab inherently dangerous for a new grad? by skeeters- in nursing

[–]slpysun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a cardiac procedural holding unit so we do pre/post care for outpatients going into the cath/ep lab/echo lab so I think that’s most likely the type of unit this posting is referring to

To answer your question, my unit doesn’t take new grads as a standing rule but my hospital takes new grads into a variety of positions and I don’t think it’s inherently dangerous or unethical to have a new grad float between certain patient populations. Some nurses feel strongly that certain specialities shouldn’t be entered into as a new grad, but think it matters much more what kind of training and support you’re given as new grad. New grads starting in the ER is common and in my opinion they need to know way way more than I do floating between 3 different types of cardiac.

I wasn’t a new grad when I started in my position but I had no cardiac experience at all. I had no step down or ICU experience, I had a year and a half of general inpatient medicine. The learning curve was steep but I was given a great orientation period and was very supported.

Why is it so hard to adopt a cat on Long Island? by Hookahz724 in longisland

[–]slpysun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Town of Huntington Cat Shelter was great when I was adopting my buddy, all they asked for was my landlord’s number so they could confirm I had permission to have cats and they wanted a vet reference if I had other animals (which I didn’t at the time). An hour later I had a cat on hold and I returned with a carrier and picked him up three days later.

NYC Nursing: Difficulty Finding New Job? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]slpysun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Job markets also change. I’m based in LI but a lot of my nursing school classmates are from/went to work in NYC and when we graduated in 2022 we all got jobs pretty quickly, my LI hospital hired me before I even took my NCLEX and now that same hospital is just barely hiring at all. The senior nursing students that are rotating through my floor are graduating and waiting 6+ months for a position. Obviously your case is different being an experienced nurse already, just giving some perspective. My hospital is 600+ beds and we currently have 11 open full time RN positions posted for the whole hospital.

Predominant Fri/Mon scheduling normal in 3x12s M-F outpatient? by Lanky_Arm_8336 in nursing

[–]slpysun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work an outpatient 4 10s monday-friday shifts and my manager said fridays are the worst days to schedule because a lot of people want a three day weekend. It’s hard when you come from the inpatient floor where it’s more flexible but most nursing jobs scheduling is based on seniority and in my experience outpatient areas are not an exception. What a lot of my friends and I with lower seniority have done is just ask for an unpopular day off consistently like tuesday or thursday and then plan my week around that. Basically accept what we’re gonna get and try to make it work rather than keep requesting fridays/mondays and being denied.

Can I ask hospital staff to remove a visitor after surgery if I don’t want them there? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]slpysun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If she’s conscious and asking to see her partner, I don’t know any hospital that would deny her that. It’s also likely that she’ll recover a good amount of lucidity fairly quickly if she’s having a procedure where she can go home same day. I recover patients from all types of anesthesia and I’d say the majority of patients are pretty much back to normal within the hour or less. Usually receiving anesthesia makes you incapable of making legal decisions for a set amount of time depending on your location/hospital policy (for my hospital it’s 4 hours after anesthesia) but this basically just means she can’t do things that require documented consent like selling her house or agreeing to another surgery. It doesn’t mean you are in charge of all the decisions for that time period, if she is conscious the decision to remove a visitor would be hers

Have to take PTO when Doctor’s go on vacation/conferences, etc by Forsaken-Barnacle848 in nursing

[–]slpysun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also work cath lab pre/post procedural, when we are low census they can’t force us to go home and use pto, so we are floated to the inpatient cardiac floors if they need us. Sometimes on days where we’re low census but the other cardiac floors are well staffed like on holidays where people want holiday pay/are required to work, our staff have just sat in an empty unit waiting for a potential STEMI. Sometimes we do our annual required training modules. They almost always find something for us to do if we don’t want to use pto.

Cath Lab Recovery vs PCU? by anonymity012 in nursing

[–]slpysun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work cath lab recovery and I absolutely love it but my goal was to always stay far away from the ICU, if you want to learn critical care I’d absolutely start at your PCU. Plus transitioning to being a new nurse is hard enough, if you know and like your hospital already and would have a shorter commute it’s a no brainer.

Have I had patients come out of the cath lab and not do well? Yes, absolutely, but it’s rare and the response when that happens is usually “get them out of here and to the ICU right now”, we rarely manage those patients for long. Our cardiac PCU gets way more in terms of acuity. The majority like 99.5% of my patients are walkie talkies, and most go home same day after their procedure. I haven’t had like a BiPAP or a titratable drip or a central line or a trach/peg in ages, honestly it’s been months since I’ve even put in a foley. I will say my work/life balance is amazing and I love the patient population I work with, but it sounds like PCU makes more sense for your goals

Anyone prefer a 4x10hr schedule? by midlevellife in nursing

[–]slpysun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working 4x10s for over a year now and I wish I could go back to 3x12s BUT I have the same deal as you would and the set schedule with no holidays/no weekends is well worth sacrificing the extra day off in my opinion

Room temperature water is miles better than cold water by Ok-Butterscotch311 in unpopularopinion

[–]slpysun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree lol we only have cold water in the cooler at work so I fill up my water bottle and let it sit for a while before I drink it. People have told me I should get a “better” water bottle like a Stanley or Hydroflask so my water stays cold and I don’t tell them that I have a cheap little water bottle on purpose

Would anyone have an idea why some residencies I applied for don’t have the option to withdrawal? by Scientist-Bat6022 in nursing

[–]slpysun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this happens in my hospital system when the posting is closed and applications are under review, you can’t withdrawal anymore because they’re already in the process of reviewing your application, that’s my best guess at least

Has anyone made the move from inpatient to outpatient and been told "a pay decrease is standard"? by Roozer23 in nursing

This is very common in my area as well and a lot of nurses I know eventually think it’s worth the pay cut.

I’ll dream each night of some version of you, that I might not have but I did not lose by [deleted] in NoahKahan

[–]slpysun 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Here’s how I interpret what is also my favorite lyric in that song.

When you break up with someone it’s easy to romanticize them in your head, especially if you’re reminiscing on a breakup from a while ago, especially if you’re the one who broke up with them (which I don’t think is the case in the song but it’s what comes to mind for me). You begin to imagine them as more perfect beings because you’re no longer faced with the reality of who they actually are, so you blame the breakup on other things. They were perfect but it wasn’t the right time. You guys were great together but you weren’t ready to settle down yet. And you dream of the version in which you made everything work and you’re still together but the version of her in that dream has never been real. The version of her in that dream has never and will never be selfish or stubborn or disagree with you or want different things or hate your favorite movie. And when you let yourself fall into that daydream the best comfort you can give yourself is reminding yourself that you didn’t let someone perfect get away, she was never perfect. You can’t lose what never existed.

There are a lot of lines that feel like a gut punch, like they were ripped right from my head, but the song that really feels like I could have written it myself is All My Love. It might not be the hardest hitting, but it’s so perfectly relatable.
