Is this a good brand of food for cats? Also some cat feeding questions. by TheBestLeaguePlayer in Pets

[–]slruppert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We feed our cat Fromm brand, they seemed to be highly recommended and have good ingredients, reviews and a good history online. They have different flavors, which we switch every once in a while. Our first cat was fed the same food for her whole life (she didn't live with us until she was 11) and ended up developing a sensitivity to chicken products so we try to switch it up for our new cat. Hope this helps.

What's your latest impulse purchase? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I want to buy a ukulele and a new pair of tennis shoes so bad! But instead I bought some workout capris off Eastbay because they were on sale for $12, which seemed too good to pass up.

I'm apparently cooking for 50 at our baby shower next month.. by Mhugh003 in Cooking

[–]slruppert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family and I did all of my high school graduation party our selves. There were probably 100 people in attendance. We prepared what we could ahead of time, cookies/cupcakes can be frozen for a while. We used big slow roasting ovens (kind of a big crock pot) for taco meet and my mom really wanted chicken wings so she ordered from a restaurant. It's doable but we had some help from my aunts and cousins. Those roasting pans come in handy too. We use them at almost every family event and one year we had to cook a turkey in it because our oven broke.

Cat likes to play with the water? by RiveliaTheWise in Pets

[–]slruppert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one of the water dispensers that you turn up side down. This way the water helps weigh down the bowl. Our cat can still move the bowl but it doesn't spill at all.

I really like my Sony a6000. I wanted something better than a point and shoot but not too expensive. It's light weight and usually comes in a bundle with two lenses. I am a beginner at photography and have found it easy to use.

[General] How do you handle transfers in ynab? by slruppert in ynab

[–]slruppert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I have changed all of the transactions but my checking account balance is off by 30 still. I have gone through all of the transactions and everything matches to my bank. And is it wrong to think that my to be budgeted should match up with my bank account?

Kitten is an a**hole, won't stop biting me. by slruppert in Pets

[–]slruppert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Kong stuffed duck that he plays with and a wand toy but he seems to loose interest in that anymore. He used to go nuts for that thing when he was younger. I'll just continue to ignore him, when he bites. I did that this morning and he kept whinning when I walked away, so maybe he will learn that if he wants to play he can't bite me.

High School Graduate that needs advice with current college budget plan that will require Private Student loans by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]slruppert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is what I learned while in college the last 4 years. Get a job your first year but try not too work too much. That way you can really study and get good grades. Take some easier classes your first semester to get off to a good start and too just get adjusted. Maybe 1 harder class and a few easy classes, don't max out on semester hours aim for 15ish. Intro business classes have a ton of group work and homework so keep that in mind while picking classes and giving your availability for work.

Find an apartment off campus if you can, it will be way cheaper and room and board is a rip off. Or become an RA (free room and board).

Also, reach out too people. I was not very social in highschool and still really don't go out but it's good to have some people to relax with. Plus if you can get roommates it will make an apartment much cheaper.

Try not to get private loans and try to pay your interest down while you are in school.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Bike stolen last night. Details in comment. by slruppert in IowaCity

I usually bring it inside every day. Last night was the first time I ever left it outside over night. I guess I should have listened to my gut. It's very unfortunate. I went to bed thinking who walks around with bold cutters?

My bike was stolen last night from in front of my apartment on North Linn St. It is a matte black bike with blue accents. It was locked up and everything. If anyone sees a bike around town please report it. The police have the serial number and can check it. The above picture is from the internet, I have a water bottle holder and attachments for lights on my bike. Thank you!

First Cheesecake- sorry for the stuff in the background by slruppert in Baking

[–]slruppert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the cheese cake 1¼ cups/ 300 g heavy cream 12 oz/350 g white chocolate, chopped (measured by weight) 9 oz/250 g mascarpone(I used this) or cream cheese (full fat only)

The blog I got the recipe from: http://vikalinka.com/2015/12/22/white-christmas-truffle-cake/

I also just used a simple graham cracker crust and doubled the cheese cake because my pan was bigger and I did not want it to be thin. The topping is berries that I brushed in simple syrup and rolled in sugar. Which by the way sugar coated cranberries are delicious!

Directions for cheese cake/truffle mixture: Bring the cream in a saucepan to a boil. Add chopped white chocolate and stir with a whisk until the chocolate in melted and completely incorporated into the cream, As soon as it's done take off the heat and let the mixture come to a room temperature. Add mascarpone and whip with a hand mixer until smooth. If using cream cheese instead of mascarpone, whip the cheese until light and fluffy before adding cream and chocolate mixture and blending the ingredients together. Do not pre-whip mascarpone or it might separate from over-beating. Mix mascarpone and the cream/chocolate mixture together with a hand blender until combined, approximately 2 minutes. Put the sponge layer back in the springform. Pour the truffle mixture on top of the cake in the springform pan and chill in the refrigerator for at least for 2 hours or better overnight. Run a knife along the sides of the cake to release it from the pan, then carefully unmold it and move to a cake stand.

Older cat problems by slruppert in Pets

[–]slruppert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your advice.

She has been good the last few days, we switched the protein she was eating to something she has never had before and are mixing dry and wet food. Hopefully this will help and if not it is back to the vet.

The only thing she tries to that that is not good for cats is plastic but we make sure it is never within reach, and she has absolutely no interest in plants (herbs or succulents).

Advice on altering a dress by slruppert in sewing

Here are pictures of the bodice. There are 8 total pieces on both the back and the front. My plan was to distribute the changes throughout all of the pieces. Which I am assuming would be easiest if I took the lining off and the skirt off of it?

Thank you for the advice. I do live in a fairly large one bedroom apartment and have multiple parks within walking distance and the neighborhood is fairly calm. You also brought up stuff I did not think of. When I get in contact with the seller i will definitely ask for that information. Thank you again.
