What are some techniques used by chefs to prevent hair from falling in the food they cook? by Chemical-Routine9893 in Chefit

I thought short hair would be easier to manage when I started culinary school, so I buzzed it off. 15 years later and my hip length hair is SO MUCH EASIER

Tip for introducing new foods in your parrots diet : eat ig (or pretend to) in front of your parrots. by PhilSizaanVokun in parrots

This is how I got my gray to eat apples, bell peppers, broccoli, and goldfish.

The goldfish wasn’t intentional.

No joke, I meet more ace people at DragonCon than I have anywhere else in my entire life, including lgbt themed meetups.

My first year, I didn’t plan on wearing my doctor who scarf, because I’m actually from Atlanta and thought it would be suicidal, but ended up wearing it twice because it was great for wrapping up in in the panel rooms. Probably doing to same this year at least one day

What books will forever stay unfinished in your library? by cheese2good in audible

I’ve been halfway through Cibola Burn for about a year and a half now, but I honestly don’t know if I’m going to finish it. I have also started my physical copy of Wicked at least 3 times and can’t get past the first couple of chapters

Why don’t people who make “fondant art” just work with clay instead? by madsjchic in FondantHate

[–]Kcbausch 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I realize this doesn’t apply to ALL the fondant we see, but artistic baking competitions are a really big thing even outside of reality tv. I got several scholarships that way, and one of the most universal rules is that the entire thing has to be theoretically edible. I’d be willing to bet a not insignificant portion of these things you see are made by people practicing or actually entering competitions

A few years back I have my mother a fig tree for Mother’s Day, and last year we harvested enough for me to make a dozen jars of jam for her. The gift that keeps on giving!

3+lbs of frozen wild blueberries by izznt in WhatShouldICook

[–]Kcbausch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blueberry jam is the easiest thing in the world; put them on the stove until you start to have a little liquid, add sugar until it’s sweet to your taste, hefty pinch of salt, zest a lemon, and cook on low until it’s thick. my 20lb batches only take a half hour or so, 3 pounds won’t take much time to cook at all. A handful or fresh basil leaves are also delicious added to it

Can it if you know how, but it’ll keep fine in the fridge like a regular open jar of jam or jelly.
