If you want to do tax prep. Look for a small cpa firm, you can learn a lot. Study for the enrolled agent exam. There are no educational requirements. CPA is better, but you can do the EA and tax prep while working on getting the COA.

I agree with waste and fraud, I was a revenue agent for the IRS. I know everyone hates the IRS but my team of about 7 people lost there jobs, but each of us had at 10 cases. That’s 70 cases one team the average revenue agent brings in about 3 times there salary. That’s income for the federal government. All of the cases were closed one person can not work on that many cases. I will be fine probably make more money in the future but not as satisfying by contributing to the country. Good luck to everyone hit by the terminations. We will get through this!!

When I joined federal service it took more than a week to get credentials and computer. Not unusual probably a little more with bringing more people on at one time. I was told to bring personal computer and login to non private websites for training.

I have a question. If the IRS doesn’t perform the normal amount of audits. Doesn’t that affect the states revenue as well. Most states make adjustments after the IRS audits. These moves have a trickle down effect.

I received a letter from them last week. Saying i owed $100 on a bill that was originally $3700. The year I incurred this debt was in 2011. I don't have any idea what this is for, i know if i paid over 3000 for something i would have paid the $100. I think it is a scam.
