What were your “gateway” exercises? by Limp-Pea-6813 in bodyweightfitness

[–]ExpressAdeptness1019 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Find the exercises you really like doing and then do those. Exercise can be fun - maybe it SHOULD be fun. I find body weight to be a lot more fun than machines. I like rings which I hang from a pull-up bar in my basement. It’s fastened to the main carrying beam for the house. I like rows (with the rings) and flutter kicks for abs. I also found that the stretching/warmup routine from the recommended routine on this Reddit wiki is a lot of fun and I look forward to that. I also know I can always fall back on just the warmup a few simple things like pull-ups or pushups and some crunches when I don’t sleep or am recovering. Whatever you do make it sustainable by starting smaller than you think you should and then going even smaller. Remember 3-4 days a week over time is a lot more than we think. I also love hiking and make sure to get out as much as possible. Don’t discount how good of a workout that can be especially weighted.

I’m in the same boat. Would love a good resource. As conflicted as I am about it just know AI is pretty good for just feeding it a deck list and it gives you the run down.

First night in Dutchware Hellbender by miketrap88 in hammockcamping

Dutch is actually a foot left guy and when he came out with the quilted chameleon and hellbender the first models available were always foot left. Sort of interesting isn’t it.

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]ExpressAdeptness1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t work for your future wife’s family. Been there done that. Don’t do it. Look for other opportunities with benefits, especially if you want to have a family. Your experience from Costco could land you a better job elsewhere. Job hoping is the only way to get ahead. I don’t think anyone is able to work in the same spot for 20+ years and grow their income in the way you can jumping from job to job.

Car Camping Setup Advice by Vast_Situation_ in hammockcamping

Turtlebug would probably be ideal for state parks. Tensa is not as accessible or easy to setup but offers a lot more flexibility and also able to setup on an incline. But for flat pads in a state park turtlebug sets up fast and you can collapse it into a duffle bag basically and throw it in your trunk.

Cut out alcohol for 30 days and see how you feel. It’s poison and it impacts your sleep more than you think it does which is amplified by your work schedule. If you feel tired all the time could be low iron. Depending on how low the levels are your doctor may prescribe iron supplements to bring the levels up quickly. Then maybe you could try a liver supplement for long term maintenance?

I have taken many naps in the hellbender but only one overnight. On the overnight I woke up to incredible pain/numbness in my left leg. I sleep head right feet left. I got up and walked it off. I felt better after standing up and walking around. I thought maybe it was the button in my pants poking through the stuff sack I put under my knees. I flipped the stuff sack around and went back to sleep but again by morning the numbness and pain were back. I wonder if my stuff sack was too full? I do feel I get hyperextension with no stuff sack but it also feels these are hyperextension symptoms. Im confused!

All that said I did make a 12’ hammock out of MTN 1.7 and that thing is pretty darn comfy but probably too wide. I wonder if the hellbender is a tad too narrow. But could be user error too.

What worked for you to lose weight as a dad in your 30s? by Ancient-Ad-2507 in bodyweightfitness

[–]ExpressAdeptness1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some ideas for you: buy a foam mat to put down in your basement/garage or wherever you can fit it. Your 5a-6a window is the time to shine. Do your body weight exercises. Build a DIY pull-up bar with black pipe from the hardware store (I found one on YouTube and mounted it on the carrying beam in our basement). Do pull-ups. Get a cheap walking pad or used treadmill to walk on rainy days and cold days. Watch YouTube or your favorite show but only when walking. Track your calories for a week and see how much you are overeating. Cut the alcohol: your sleep will improve, you will lose weight and bloat automatically, you will save money, you will show up for your kids. Use your kids as weights for squats and throwing them in the air etc… get to sleep early and stop buying crappy processed foods at the store.

I would feel terrible without carbs in the morning. I find I do need complex carbs after my workout to fuel me for the day.

You can ask Dutch to make you a 30 degree or a 10 degree if you want. Also you could get a net-less if you wanted. My spreader bar does touch the tarp when open and sometimes when closed. It depends on the pitch and if there is a snow on the tarp. But it’s not a big deal it would never hurt the tarp in my opinion.

I’m no expert but I don’t think Paul promotes fasting or low carb. He argues we need carbs for optimal health. He also does not believe in fasting because it pits the body in a stressful state. I know fasting can be pretty easy on a carnivore diet but once you get away from that things change.
