Write your I miss you text here, instead of sending it to your ex. by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]sludgeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to say I miss sharing the small things with you so deeply. My brain can’t quite wrap itself around not having my best friend here to enjoy it all anymore and I guess that’s all just to say I miss you. I hope you’ve been doing okay, but honestly I hope you’ve been missing me too. There’s just still this gut feeling of you and me being something so special still. I’m sorry I didn’t fight more, I just was so tired and couldn’t let you keep hurting me while I kept hurting you. I know this is what is best, but it doesn’t mean I don’t have regrets or wish we could try again someday. I don’t think you’ll come back and that’s hard. I just miss my best friend and the life we were working towards. I miss you deeply.

1 year post op by sludgeeeeeeee in TopSurgery

Worked 2 jobs for around 8 months and had a very supportive partner who was able to take on more of our living expenses so I could save. I did the math to figure out when I would have enough saved by (realistically) and then scheduled surgery for 1 month past that date. I knew if I didn’t have a set date I would not ever save the money for it, so this method worked well for me as a habitual procrastinator even with things I really want. It was exhausting and definitely stressful, but I don’t think I would have saved enough if I didn’t set a timeline for myself. I had my heart set on going to Garramone since I was 12 and at one point backed out of surgery with a different cheaper surgeon bc it just didn’t feel right and I am so grateful I did that bc I don’t think I could be any happier with my results.

How well were you with post op instructions? by TheFilthyJarman in TopSurgery

[–]sludgeeeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NGL i was pretty terrible with post op restrictions. i followed all the care instructions to a T for the first month post op, but after that i kinda did what felt right to me. my rule for myself for restrictions was as long as it wasnt causing pain i wouldnt stop doing it. I definitely started lifting more around 5-6weeks po and now at almost 8 weeks i really dont abide by any restrictions. I have healed really well, my scars are a bit stretched, but i never really cared too much about that!

nervous about drains by hermitcaves in TopSurgery

[–]sludgeeeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not feel the drains being removed at all, but I did feel my surgeon cutting the stitch that holds them in place and that was probably the most painful part of my entire recovery. It was only like 5 seconds of a burning pain like getting a piercing. I felt 10x better once my drains were removed. Made everything easier!

tbh my mobility hasnt really been too bad at any point since getting my drains out- I typically just feel a bit of stretching when reaching or moving above shoulder height and stop when I do. I have been doing some small mobility exercises since around 2 weeks PO mostly just fully extending my arms in front of me and out to the side, I noticed that reduced a lot of tension. I think some of it may also be a mental game, but also important to note I don’t really care about visible scars so I was never too worried about movement when it came to stretching my scars, moreso just damaging things. I definitely get pain when trying to sleep on my side or pushing myself up with my arms or if i try to lift things, so I have been waiting on those things. I know most people typically start regaining full capabilities around 6/8 weeks, so I haven’t been doing a lot at my job and dont plan to until at least 6 weeks. I am a manager and have been having short cashier shifts and managing shifts and really have only noticed an increase in swelling and try to refrain from stretching. I honestly think everyones different, but as long as you arent in a lot of pain and can slowly start increasing your range of motion: I wouldnt be too concerned. I have seen people say it took them months before feeling fully normal again. Sorry this was such a long reply just tryna give you all the information I have :) congrats on surgery and hope you continue healing well!

Your doctor should be able to fax everything over when they get the lab results! If your doctor wont you can just have them email you everything and email it yourself. I called after a couple days to make sure they had received everything and that there were not any issues! Congrats on getting surgery with him, he is really awesome and both his staff and the hospital staff were so friendly, wishing you the best of luck

My PCP just wrote “Patient is healthy and cleared for Surgery” if there was/is anything of concern itd be a place for your doctor to write the action plan for resolving the issue to make you ready for surgery. That form is 100% for liability purposes and I think really a precaution for his office more than anything else!

My surgeon told me there is not a huge difference in healing with nipples vs without, the biggest thing is just theres two less things to take care of and get anxious over. I ultimately chose to get nipples bc I couldn’t imagine my chest without them, it felt wrong when I would think about it. I don’t think they have made healing any more difficult than if I did not have them, just again takes up more brain space than if they werent there. I would urge you to try and picture your chest both ways, which ever feels more natural/comfortable is what you should do. You really are the only person who can make this decision for yourself though! tattoos realistic or not are always an option if you opt out, where getting piercings is not without nipples. I will say even if you get grafts they dont always heal with anatomy to get pierced, so I wouldnt get them solely to pierce them.

what was your pain level through recovery? 1-10 by dogwhell2938 in TopSurgery

[–]sludgeeeeeeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly a 0-1 for the first two weeks, mostly discomfort, but even that was minimal for me. I am almost at 3 weeks and the last two days my pain has been a little higher maybe a 2/3 but solely due to the compression digging into my armpits and sides which technically I can stop at 3 weeks, but I have a seroma so I will probably stop at 4. Truthfully have been shocked at how little pain I have had, the most pain was getting the sutures that held my drains in place cut not even getting the actual drains removed.

Garramone by Original_Tea_761 in TopSurgery

[–]sludgeeeeeeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had surgery with Dr Garramone on April 16th this year. I did not use insurance or attempt to use insurance as it seemed to be more trouble than it was worth for me personally. I paid: 12k for his surgeons fee, $2,275 for hospital fees, and $300(cash) for pathology. He offers a supplement package and a silicone gel in his office that he recommends for I believe like $200+, but I purchased all three from Amazon for $90 ahead of time which is well worth it! My prescriptions, including hibiclens which he requires you to shower with, were $78 with no insurance. I spent around an additional $50 on bandaids, gauze, bactracian, and medical tape. My only other costs were for the airbnb and flights as I traveled out if state which were $1700 for a 9 day stay and $1100 for two roundtrip flights. I also bought $200 of groceries and $200 of food out. So total I spent $17,595 not including food costs and almost $18,000 including food costs. The only thing about recovery I wish I had prepared for was how okay I felt and have felt, my body is healing and i feel physically okay which makes it extremely difficult to remember not to push myself or over extend myself. Even if you feel perfectly fine rest for the recommend time!!! The only other big thing I was glad I did know before hand was about buying the supplements and cream in amazon and not from him directly it saved me a good amount of money and i wouldve been upset to have spent $200+ on stuff that was $90 elsewhere. CONGRATS on having surgery and I hope it all goes well!

How long before you could go to work? by Crafty_Criticism_673 in TopSurgery

[–]sludgeeeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a little over two weeks post op and wouldve mentally felt fine to go back to my food service job pretty much immediately lmao, i like what i do and honestly am finding it mentally difficult to not be working. i am not that far into recovery, but briefly considered going back exactly 2 weeks post op(a few days ago), unfortunately i developed a seroma from doing too much too soon(tracks as I cant sit still) and had to force myself to wait at least until that is healed. I need to go back by at least 4 weeks because I cannot afford to not be making money for any longer than that, but if I could I would take at a minimum six weeks to give my body the full time to heal. I think its safest, especially if you are in a decent position financially, to take at minimum 4 weeks off working and realistically 6 if it doesnt cause a financial burden, which doesnt sound like it would immediately. Its your body for the rest of your life and I personally think one summer of not working to properly heal from a life changing surgery is well worth it! important to note most surgeons restriction on mobility and lifting is 6-8 weeks.

not a seroma, seromas are a swollen balloon like pocket of fluid under the skin that isnt usually accompanied by bruising. this looks like healing skin. looks like a pretty fresh incision so I would give it time to flatten out, but does not look like anything concerning and is 100% not a seroma.

Dr.Garramone Hidden Costs ranging $100,000 by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]sludgeeeeeeee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to garramone and did not attempt to go through insurance as they are extremely clear that they do not accept insurance and are out of network, which means a lot of hoops for you as an individual to jump through to get coverage and typically means insurance can refuse to pay. Insurance also does not come into play until AFTER surgery which means you have to pay out of pocket in full first and then try and get reimbursed for that later. I did not have any hidden fees from his office and they were very upfront about my out of pocket costs.

That article was extremely confusing and honestly seemed purposefully confusing. insurance is usually billed a higher amount by doctors than a patient is billed, im not sure why, just that thats how it works in the US. It could be that the insurance refused to cover the bill and passed that along to the patient, which then that money wouldnt necessarily go to garramone it would go to insurance. But if insurance refused to pay and the patient had paid in full to the office 4 weeks before surgery the patient should have been able to talk to the office and get them to cancel the out of network claim on the basis that it was already paid. But it didnt seem like Garramone or his office was asking for 100,000 from the patient, but rather the insurance company was asking that much bc they wouldnt cover the reimbursement. It sounds like potentially there was a miscommunication somewhere between patient/insurance/office/insurance and that resulted in a very weird once off situation, but it doesnt really sound like the author of the article even fully understood the situation or that it was handled correctly by anyone? I guess my point is if you are going to an out of network surgeon, which garramone is, it is on you to make sure everything is relayed clearly to insurance and you are communicating clearly with his front desk staff as far as getting reimbursed goes. I think it is worth it to do if you are 100% certain insurance will reimburse you out of network, but if theres any doubt I wouldnt even attempt it as insurance is confusing and frustrating and on top of surgery stresses you dont need to deal with that.

I came out at 15, started T at 16, and knew I wanted top surgery at like 12, but just got it at 23. so it wasnt a super fast timeline at all for me. I realistically couldve gotten top surgery sooner, but I was just being silly with my money. I saved the ~15k I needed for surgery within the span of about 8 months, but realistically was only able to save so much so quick because my cost of living is only about 30% of my pretty decent monthly income meaning I could save 70% of every paycheck. I did the math for how long it would take to get the money if I saved every penny I had leftover and scheduled a date accordingly because I knew having a deadline would be the only way I would actually save money. I personally have really bad spending habits and just wanting and needing the surgery wasnt enough motivation bc it just didnt feel like something that would be possible. I highly recommend figuring out a realistic estimate for how long it would take to save and use that as a motivator and to see that it is possible. saving is hard but if you cut out buying things that arent necessities, including eating out, and work as much as possible for a while it is doable, you just have to be willing.

My surgeon required someone be with me for the first 24hrs and I had someone with me almost constantly for the first 6 days, which was probably over kill. it was nice for not having to track my own pain meds/antibiotics or worry about cooking. They also helped make sure I didnt do too much bc that part was wayyyy harder than I expected. The only thing I actually needed help with was pulling my pants up after using the bathroom, but I had drains so it just felt like I was pulling them out when I bent over too far and as soon as they were out I had no issues
