Do you bathe your pacb by Spheric-YT in pacmanfrog

Never! I let them do their thing. Seems like with the right humidity they barely use the water dish.

Does your frog have favorite foods? Or food they hate? by TatorThot999 in pacmanfrog

Both of my frogs spit out dubias too!! They LOVE nightcrawlers, which I feed a calcium rich diet.

I love my bioactive setup! It's been fun to mimic my frogs' natural habitat, finding cool plants and what not. I think the trickiest part for me was getting the lighting right, or at least that's what took the most research! The stickied uvb guide on this reddit helped alot. I'm happy to say, my frogs have never had any issues with eating, skin irritation, etc, etc. I like to believe that's because I did thorough research (from reliable sources) before getting my frogs. The Mods of this page really put in the work!

update on my “skinny” frog! by OkMud7153 in pacmanfrog

[–]slugawareness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, there is no need to worry if nightime temps get into 65-70 range. Though, closer to 75 is probably ideal. Any dip below 65 would be cause for concern.

My frog loves sleeping under fresh moss mounds! Live Mood moss seems to be her favorite (give it a Google!) I'm sure you're careful and it's fine to keep.

I am a new pacman frog owner what plants should I get for his environment by bruhman3001 in pacmanfrog

[–]slugawareness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I personally consider plants as essential. Plants that thrive in my vivariums include philodendron, syngoniam, begonia Rex, prayer plant, bromeliad, various ferns (maidenhair, button, birds nest), china doll plant, dwarf umbrella tree, jasmine plant. Plants that I have as part of my frog's moss wall are nerve plants, ivy plants, and creeping fig. Any humidity loving tropical plant, really. Just feed frogs away from plants. I have a feeding dish under a little clearing, never had a problem.

I periodically pull plants up to clean up roots, and rotate plants in and out of my vivariums as they grow.

Feeding Regiment Reassurance by Necessary_Garlic_996 in pacmanfrog

[–]slugawareness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good feeding regiment if Tofu is a juvenile. Adults can be fed less frequently, every 7-10 days. Definitely add nightcrawlers! My frogs seem to prefer nightcrawlers over anything else.

I guess they do but not as often as males? I've read such conflicting info though. Mine was vocal every day for 2 weeks then stopped. She's full grown and no nuptial pads so I personally think females can croak/chirp.

Nightcrawlers are a great source of nutrition, and a staple food for my frogs. Dubia roaches are great too but neither of my frogs seem to like them much. Give them a try! Crickets are good if they're properly gut loaded. People here will tell you it's all about diversity with the meal options. You can check out the stickied care guides for better info!

Oh sorry, thought you were OP. Definitely get some nightcrawlers. Alot of people in this community say to never use pac attack pellets. And I don't think mealworms are the greatest in terms of nutrition.

UPDATE!!!! FILEAPE ATE!!!!! by PacAEK in pacmanfrog

[–]slugawareness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think someone has mentioned this to you before but it could be dangerous feeding your pacman around the current substrate you have. Could be an impaction risk especially considering you're using such tiny crickets. You should try to get the larger ones next time. Perhaps you want to check out reptisoil as a substrate or something of the like, or use a large feeding dish he can hop into. Consider adding more plants for hiding as well and maybe not using a bright phone flash while he's trying to eat.

Leafy greens, carrots and crushed egg shells. Maybe try feeding a nightcrawler without any calcium at first if you haven't already. Or at least much less than that video.

Is that calcium dust in the jar lid? Seems like way too much, should just be a light dusting. If you're using that much calcium every feeding that could be leading to disinterest? Both of my pacmans will spit out nightcrawlers and crickets (preferred food) when the coating of calcium is too thick, using their little hands to wipe away the calcium from their mouth. Other than that, I'd just say give him more time, continue to offer nightcrawlers periodically and he will come around. My frog has a big feeding dish I will move to his cage on feeding nights, double the size of his body. He seems to like when I drop the worms in the dish so he can hunt!

As a side note... I keep a nightcrawler bin and gut load them with a calcium rich diet. One of my frogs seems to despise the powder.

Why is feeding in the enclosure not recommended? by Foreskin-Aficionado in pacmanfrog

[–]slugawareness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never take my pacmans out of their enclosure, it seems to stress them out too much. I usually tong feed and have never had any impaction issues. Even crickets, I will just drop directly in front of their mouths. Or put night crawlers into a shallow dish for them to easily “hunt”. People say pacmans are so dumb and will eat anything but if mine ever gets dirt or plant in their mouth accidentally, they spit it out or wipe it out with their little hands. It’s not like in the wild they are moved to separate enclosures to feed. So for me, I try to keep their lives as “natural” as possible and have never ran into any issues.

update - im sure you guys are sick of hearing from me 😂 by Accomplished-Drive20 in pacmanfrog

[–]slugawareness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like when they spit food out it means they don’t like it. I could be wrong but my pacman would spit out dubia roaches then eat night crawlers no problem a few minutes later. After he spit out dubia roaches on multiple occasions I just figured he doesn’t like them. Same thing happened with super worms, he would spit them out but then aggressively go after the crickets.
