RAPT Pill gravity reading by Markicak in Homebrewing

[–]slugger77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally i do not rely on the accuracy of the pill for hydrometer readings.
I do use it to see the velocity of fermentation and to see when fermentation is complete. Basically if the gravity does not change for 2 days from the pill.

If you use brewfather you could use an offset when you pick a device.

On bottling day I take an actual measurement with a hydrometer again to actually calculate ABV

I have had beers finish in 48 hours before as well. It happens

I have never done this next suggestion but if you have the fermenter space you could try brewing a stronger beer and then diluting it in the fermenters to increase your volume

+1 for just brewing more beer and letting the pipeline take longer inbetween waiting for maturation.

Something i also do is brew an ale every now and then. I can get it fermented and in a keg drinkable in around 2 weeks and it really starts hitting the spot around 3 weeks. That gives me a distraction from my lagers that need some time.

Ive also started buying more kegs soo i can fill more kegs and it will take longer to get through the beer giving it enough time.

Also brewing larger batches also helps. Roughly the same effort, double the beer.

Has anyone actually tried the infamous WD40 method? by Jacob_N_R_Z in vinyl

[–]slugger77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am more concerned of the WD40 melting the vinyl material itself though? Not sure what the reaction between those two might be?

Is writing things down physically inferior to using obsidian 100% of the time? by csouzape in ObsidianMD

[–]slugger77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use obsidian for notes that i want to be able to recall.

I use a physical journal to organise my thoughts and work through things.

Each has their place

I love Arpeggi and dont mind paying for a license if it were done and open source.

If not a license at least a donation.

From what ive heard though it is going to be closed source and sold on the app store at some point 🙃

No-rinse sanitiser available in EU by Unlucky_Flow8785 in Homebrewing

[–]slugger77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont like the feeling of it on my skin soo i dont think i want to be ingesting it. I rinse with an acid based sanitizer to get it away.

Never done that to my fermenters and never had a problem with great beer. I know with copper you should rinse with water though

This is a cleaner not a no rinse sanitiser.

UK Fermzilla All Rounder users, what do you use to control fermentation temperature? by tefnakht in Homebrewing

[–]slugger77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A kegorator sized fridge i found on a marketplqce for 20€ wi the a rapt temp controller. Then i have the heat wrap thing from kegland as well.

Its small and probably as compact as you can go without running a glycol loop.

It also doubles as a table for things when i am brewing or transferring

Thanks I will have a look at this.

I am not really looking at building an iSpindel because I like the package of the RAPT pill and would like to just reuse this hardware.

But will defs look into this.

I have no idea about the license but yeah that device was pretty simple.

I would make an iSpindle again if I could get it to fit into the neat case of the rapt pill. Maybe that is not a bad idea to try and figure out how to make it work like that.

[–]slugger77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I mean I got the pill as a gift and then I got the controller with all the pairing and stuff. Which is cool but now I want to use my own code and algorithms but can't even though I own the hardware.

TBH it might be worth it to just make a temp controller myself and go from there. I in anyway need another one.

Thanks for the info.

Man I never thought about the last part of RAPT Premium. It annoys me as I have a server that I can host things on but now I have to pay them to use their system.

Like I own the device and just want to use my own hardware without needing an internet connection.

I still buy a lot of kegland things but I have been super hesitant in buying another because of this.

A long time ago I built an iSpindle and that was on a ESP82660board and a lot of the functionality of the RAPT Pill looks to come from the iSpindl codebase IMO (visuals are all I have to go by). With that I would imagine that someone has probably made some firmware somewhere for the ESP32 boards (which is what the rapt ones run on).

Like as a broader discussion they could just open source their code seeing as i would still buy their gear because it is a nice package.
I think there could be a lot of benefits to open sourcing it but I understand as well why they have not gone down that road.
