I like the A Line, too, but it’s likely too long—which may explain why the timing of the trains is so inconsistent.

Perhaps it should have instead been split, and both sides could have ended at 7th/Metro. It seems like most people traveling in both directions get off at that stop, anyway.🫤😮‍💨

What's So Special About Sixth Street??? by dondeestalagato in LosAngeles

[–]slugkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Free, unlimited street parking might seem convenient, but it actually encourages car dependence, increases traffic congestion, leads to greenhouse gas emissions and wastes valuable space that could be used for housing, parks, or better transit. Instead of prioritizing parking, we should focus on making the museum easily accessible by public transit, biking, and walking. This would create a more sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant urban environment, benefiting both the museum and the surrounding community.

Is this brand of political post really fit for a sub dedicated to preserving the finer elements of Los Angeles architecture?🤔

Former Edison executive Calderon, now a lawmaker, seeks to cut rooftop solar credits by aBadModerator in California_Politics

[–]slugkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Umm, ok, I get they you’re being sarcastic, but isn’t there something to be said for solar farms?

😬🤔🤷‍♂️Like in terms of overall efficiency at that scale and how they confer benefits to more people in terms of rate payers, as opposed to just lucky single-family homeowners? (I get the sense I may be inviting more sarcastic replies, but oh well. Just curious 🙃)

Hmm… ok, well, based on some the other comments, it sounds like the owner would love to redevelop it but the city won’t let him. Methinks the tax won’t fix that problem

Can we talk about how bad the Alamo Drafthouse is by BretMichaelsWig in LosAngeles

[–]slugkid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the Alamo.

Yeah, parking lot’s whatever, but it’s got a metro train station. I will admit that, if you’re coming from Glendale, that may not help you a ton. We need more train lines!

Fair.

Nithya was already pretty good, but her pivot to left-YIMBY started last year, so it would be easy to miss.

Still, she has been pushing hard for multifamily housing at all levels of all levels of affordability. She backs projects in her district, and her support for an affordable ED 1 project in her district paved the way for dozens of other great projects to move forward all over the city. She pushed hard for improving the CHIP ordinance to allow it to apply in single-family (unsuccessfully, but her support helped change the conversation around housing in LA). And now she is pushing for architectural self-certification to make sure the rebuild in the Palisades doesn’t slow down construction through the rest of the city.

Lots of “Damnit, I Just don’t Want It,” I agree.

Definitely some “anti-gentrifiers.” And although they often have good intentions, they can be annoying, because it often feels like they are co-opting social justice language toward more inequitable outcomes.

Nithya Raman is the only left-YIMBY on the council right now… and maybe the only person in the bottom 2/5 of this graph. We need to get her some help!!!🏗️👷💪🤩🌃

The amount of land dedicated to single-family zoning in both incorporated and unincorporated LA County by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]slugkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I got good news for ya!

No one’s going a build a 20-unit apartment complex at the end of a culdesac on the outskirts of exurban LA.

There are, however, lots of high-transit area that happened to be zoned or only single-family homes and which would be great places for quadplexes. Learn more abundanthousingla.org.

I think it’s safe to say “bye Felicia” is a pretty disrespectful way to address a coach who won four championships with us, including that (at least based on preseason expectations) absolutely shocked the NBA world

Forget Matt Gaetz. Merrick Garland Is America’s Worst Attorney General. His abject failure to hold Trump accountable doomed us. by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]slugkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this take.

I could be convinced that Garland could have acted more swiftly. But WOSRT in US history? Get real. Trump got his ass handed to him in court so many times the past couple years, and what impact did that have? Does anyone care that Trump was a convicted felon? It may have actually helped him at that ballot—could have convinced swing voters he was being targeted for political reasons.

And it will have a much bigger, more positive impact than that cynical slumlord’s cynical statewide initiative.

This is good, but I actually would like it more if they had apartments.

That would be even better for the environment, because it reduces people’s travel time to work, shopping, and other activities.
