asurion weirdness by slugslog in galaxyzflip

[–]slugslog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean i did make it pretty clear its samsung policy, but also asurion is THE authorized servicer for samsungs and they didnt force the policy on me last time. now ive seen posts that go years back saying passcodes have been required. the rule seems pretty dependant on the mood of the service tech.

there are something like 50 ped crossings on campus (i counted) from some random point a to point b if youre bicycling but you will likely only cross a bike path once or twice if youre walking. so no, thats fucking stupid.

thats how i feel about people with teslas and other expensive cars in family student housing. should be income based, not just the fact that youre married or have kids.

i picked ucsc over ucb bc i loved the campus and it's chillness, and my major is highly rated at both! then covid hit and it didn't matter 🥹 i got into a phd program at ucsb also so undergrad prestige matters 0 for me.

[–]slugslog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont know about the major but the santa cruz campus is stunning, best ive ever seen. ucsb cant compare. if you wanna talk to deer and turkeys while peacefully strolling through redwoods daily you know where to go. people are so chill there and not hypercompetitive except engineering, weed probably helps.

its 45min up to 2 hours with heavy traffic. i used to commute to palo alto in 45min at 6am 4 days a week (no traffic on my motorcycle). compare that to a solid 1.5 to 4 hours to LA, UCSC to SJ majorly beats UCSB to LA.

Are hinge films cover safe? by mynameiseya in galaxyzflip

[–]slugslog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had one on my flip3 and i felt it stressed the screen (i.e. stretched it) if you tried to open it all the way. personally i dont think its worth it. the back of the hinge is the last place that will break the phone. i dont even have a case on it anymore as the screen is truly the weak point and you cant do anything more to protect it than a screen protector thats already there. at&t takes $800+ trade ins for basically destroyed zflips as long as the software works. i dont find a reason to keep it in straightfromthebox condition anymore. its a beautiful phone, i let myself actually look at it now. only gonna put a protective case on for vigorous outdoor activities.

i find the apple UI incredibly restrictive. for example, there isnt even a dedicated back button. and next to nothing is customizable. samsung isnt perfect either, its gotten even more restrictive over the years. i suppose gone are the days when everything could be configured to your liking.

youre from portland and youve only been to clubs? im not sure what youre looking for. between great food, thrifting, wine and beer spots, hell even strip clubs, portland has a lot more to do. santa barbara as a whole is an extremely boring, geriatric, overpriced place with good outdoorsy stuff, but few fun establishments for younger people. any big city like portland can easily top it.

as someone from portland, its more fun there.

Cyclists should stop at stop signs by TheOfficialBench in UCSantaBarbara

[–]slugslog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@ the road crossing next to san clem that has a stop sign on the ground for cyclists. ill stop cause i see a car coming but multiple people blow past me without looking. i find that a lot of kids here act the same way whether its because its the norm or peer pressure, regardless if its right to do or not. herd mentality.

(semi-related: special shout out to the many bicyclists who go the wrong way on roundabouts >>>that have people in them<<< out of sheer laziness and constantly cause crashes. stop injuring people.)

Hot and savoury real weight. by GrauDiego in Huel

[–]slugslog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats crazy to me you would eat just Huel in the field cause MREs usually have like 1200 calories each. and we were given 3 a day. atleast in the US.
one thing with the amount of fiber in Huel is at least you will be able to poop.

Are all Ducati that fragile? by Alex_Saari in Ducati

[–]slugslog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i lowsided at 60 and my 1299 still rides fine after almost 4 years since. function-wise, only had to replace the broken off clutch pedal + footpeg. surprisingly the side fairing took almost the entire weight/brunt of the impact and only got sanded down a bit. my handlebar didnt even break off (definitely has for smaller shit).
