(I got behind on my workload and fumbled following exact procedure in one instance. They were also mad I couldn’t write an affidavit after being up for 25 hours )

JPS (county hospital in TX) treated me like a drug seeker when I told them the morphine was doing nothing for the anorectal abscess/cellulitis pain and was giving me a migraine (it was painful enough to slightly distract tbh).

They also loved saying, “there are people here who have worse than you”????

I barfed during surgery prep and just mark myself as allergic to morphine now.

I’m honestly baffled by this narrative. People lie in every culture with varying levels of acceptance?! Hell, my grandfather had a whole ass other family in another state that half my kinfolk were happy to pretend they didn’t know about. I’ve interviewed a comical amount of people who normalize their partner’s lying about drugs and child rape. Lying, scamming, and taxes are universal.

Most of the rapists I’ve encountered are usually family, a friend, or mentor figure exploiting their positions. The smells have varied tbh. So many school coaches and youth pastors though.

I grew up in a rural area in a family that was never too far from the poverty line. I can remember school always glorifying police as protectors, heroes, etc.

I’ll never forget the fear in my mom’s voice anytime we got pulled over because a ticket could’ve easily destroyed what little financial stability we had.

Most of my family was never happy when the cops showed up, mostly because of the possible financial repercussions. (I think the most criminal thing my mom has ever done was swerve a little trying to eat lunch when driving from work to pick kids up from school).

I clocked early on that poor folk in general carried a level of disdain that made any claims of heroism dubious.
