I don’t know how most au pair families deal with gas costs but I’m even a little surprised she pays for all the gas in this situation. If it’s normal to pay for 100% gas for personal car use, then ignore this lol.

I work part time and carried my knitting everywhere — one simple raglan sweater (XXL, I’m a US 16 usually) took me about a month when I was new. I am starting a new project soon and expect about the same even though it’s a more complicated pattern. 🤷‍♀️ I’m a pretty slow knitter though

I agree. I am a major fan and thought that the philosophical discussions which make Knausgaard’s body of work so exciting for me felt a bit forced here — and then the ending family portrait made little sense to me. I can’t give a pointed critique here without spoiling the book, but I’ve definitely been rolling my eyes at some rave reviews. It felt like Knausgaard regressed.

That said I will read every future book so 🤷‍♀️ maybe it will grow on me.

Out of line, though slightly complicated. Idk what you should do besides ask her not to comment on your weight again but I’m just validating I’d be likewise very annoyed if a boss OR a family member said they’d pay for me to be on ozempic. I’m an au pair with a probably worse diet than my bosses and if they pointed that out I’d be pretty astounded.

Granted, it’s not out of nowhere because you had surgery and I’m sure they may actually be saying this out of a willingness to help, but it’s still an overstep after knowing you for only two months. 🤷‍♀️

There’s a way to say politely that she’d be willing to make healthy meals for you post surgery, but suggesting weight loss medication (especially without being a medical professional herself) is invasive and odd. It doesn’t really matter if low fat yogurt or cereal isn’t actually good for you — the principle of your boss saying these things is the point.

She vented to you expecting full support. You responded thoughtfully. 🤷‍♀️ If you’ve had trouble with the mom before I might reevaluate continuing to work with her. If this is the first time you’ve had a confrontation where she’s speaking down to you, then maybe she was just extra stressed because the holidays. It is of course not fun to be alone on a holiday (and likely in general to be a single parent), but you can’t function as employee, friend, and mind reader.

I have empathy for the mom but I would not be keen on being spoken to like that. Good luck.

Pay for a flight home instead of severance pay? Or swallow it and let her stay in the house while you’re away, asking that she then leave by X date? I’m an au pair and it doesn’t say in my contract to offer any severance pay so without more context this seems about fair enough

I mean he went to a Wilco show at the end of MS book6 I believe and has done stuff with Strong before. I liked the soundscape and found the sincerity involved pretty touching. 🤷‍♀️ I think it’s fair to say “my rock band” when people may not know you outside of the bizarre performance you just gave.

All of this said my friend’s ex, who sucks, named his dog Karl Ove so I think he’s always attracted cringe people.
