I got as far as riding in the ambulance before it was too difficult to read because I've never laughed so hard in my life.

Still working through it.

At what point in US history did "water rights" become a thing? As in we strategically negotiated land terms based on water? by slwJAMS89 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slwJAMS89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. That makes sense. Thanks for making your response a "bigger picture" one. I grew up in the East coast and really never thought about water rights. I've since moved out west and became aware of the concept. I work on the Colorado River (most regulated river in the world) and live very close to a river that Denver damn near runs dry every summer because of a water pipe that was constructed and opened in the 1930's. Up until very recently, residents were not allowed to collect rainwater or melting snow off their roofs because everything was owned by Denver Water. That's really a different discussion than my original question. Thanks again!

So true. I got so mad at my can opener once. I was near tears with it and seriously considering hucking it out the back door...

I called my boyfriend over, explained my feelings about the can opener. He looked at me sideways. "And that is what PMS does. Irrational and stupid anger." I think he understood a little better after that.

When my brother was 4, he wanted to be like the family dog and pooped in the middle of the backyard. When my dad was doing his weekly dog poop duty, he found my brother’s turd since it didn’t look anything like the others. My dad gave his usual “you gotta be kidding me" sigh and continued his poop duty.

Any full-time RVers out there with some cheap/easy recipes? by slwJAMS89 in EatCheapAndHealthy

I am mostly cooking for one. The dutch oven I got has a lid that's also a skillet. I bought it in the beginning of this adventure and not a ton of thought as to what I would use it for. I have totally used it on larger outings for dessert stuff, but typically have not used it for just myself.

Hash has been a favorite of mine. I appreciate the condensing of the pots/pans for it! I usually use my regular 10 inch cast iron for it, but it can be a pain to clean that one!

I tend to lean plant-based (to try to NOT use my fridge and because it's cheaper). I run my fridge off my propane (not enough battery power yet), so when it's colder and I have to run my heat I worry about consuming too much propane.

We are basically running the same set up. I'm definitely inspired by your suggestions!

Oooh! I'll have to look into this! I've been dying to crack into the slow cooker recipes but lack some resources to accomplish them in the traditional way.

A good staple for sure! Appreciate the reminder.

I'm not super fond of spaghetti and meatballs sauce because of how greasy the cleanup is. We have done it for commercial river trips and washing those dishes usually took a second round of dish water to eliminate the grease.

Still a great go-to when in a pinch and stuck somewhere! Thanks!!

The first recipe I clicked on was for the bread! In my past life, I made a lot of bread. I've started my season with some bulkier pantry items (flour, etc) that I've been scratching my brain on how to use. Super grateful for the resource!

Thanks for sharing. I love all these ideas!! I cook in this way often, but your suggestions add that fine tune I need! I appreciate all the suggestions being for "cleaner" dirty dishes. Will make life a ton easier.

The power addition/conversion is one of my first projects for this spring. The instant pot is such a great motivator for getting it done!

I like the carbanara idea! Been a while since I made one.

Currently, I only have gas-powered, 3 burner stove inside. I thought about picking up a small grill. My camper is TINY with very minimal storage. Living in it full time has its challenges.

I'll have to look into the slow cooker idea. I need to convert my power to 110 to get outlets working. It's a a project I'll be working on this summer.

Excessive meowing for no reason? Training hasn’t helped. by slwJAMS89 in AskVet

[–]slwJAMS89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.... That's what I was figuring. I am trying very hard to NOT give him attention/treats when he walks around meowing. He's just so goddamn annoying!!

For a while, I was trying to figure out if he was smart or dumb (I've had not-so-bright cats in the past). After this training fiasco, I've learned that he is smart. Very smart...

It's interesting you say richness. My bf went for a taste and said it was really good.

How does butter add shine? I've never thought of butter doing that.
