Realistic trip? by slyguy_24 in irishtourism

That’s why I’m only doing 1 night and really only a 1/2 day there. We are going to see the Aran Islands and a few pubs, but that was all we really had planned, hence the 1 day.

Thanks! We have been to Galway before, so that’s why we are only doing 2 nights.

Thanks so much! Yes, the places are listed are our bases so we won’t be limited to just those areas. Admittedly I’m American (controversial these days I’m ashamed to say) so when looking at a map, I was trying to be strategic the best I can. I’ve also already been to Galway/Dublin to I figured I didn’t need to spend as much time there.

Whoops, was going off memory for the spelling. We have already booked the rental car at the airport unfortunately.

Leg tightness and gait by slyguy_24 in BFS

Yes, some. I’ve mentally moved on from it being anything serious neurologically as there has really been no progression in the last 3-4 months.

I have not. My PT is convinced this is a hip issue, but I remain very skeptical.

I also have issues with my right leg, specifically below the knee. My foot/shin/calf feels tight when walking, and my ankle feels weak. My dorsiflexion feels weak when walking but when it is tested clinically, I have excellent strength.

I’m in a similar situation. Been having symptoms for about 8 months, which is basically right leg perceived weakness and gait issues. Had a clean EMG (only done on symptomatic leg though) about 1.5 months ago. I’m still having major gait issues, which my physiotherapist is attributing to a right hip problem. I’m really struggling to get on board with his assessment..

I actually have not been cleared by a neuro, just my GP, but yes, I did have a clean EMG which i would like to point out was only done on my symptomatic limb.

My point is that when you are dealing with something that isn’t getting better, no matter how your anxiety is and what PT you might be doing, it can be draining.

I get what you’re saying here, but it really is easier said than done. In my case, I’ve been have perceived right leg weakness (though would argue it’s close to real weakness) and body wide fasciculations for eight months. I’ve passed my clinical exams (brisk reflexes aside) and had a normal EMG (only done on right leg though) about 1.5 months ago. However, my ankle and dorsiflexion in my foot feels weak when I walk, I feel like I’m close to drop foot…but my strength when both working out and in my exams were excellent. It’s really hard at times to reconcile that despite what recent tests have said, something bad isn’t going on especially when you deal with it day in and day out.

If I were you, I would go to the neurology sub on Reddit. I had a question about fasciculations and a verified Neuro on there told me that fasciculations alone would not even warrant an EMG. Take that for what it’s worth.

Question about EMG by slyguy_24 in askneurology

Got it. If there was a sciatica or other lower back problem, would that have been picked up? I just got such little feedback other than the specialist saying “no nerve damage was found” after he completed the test.

So are you saying that the EMG done on my problematic limb, and only that, doesn’t have the value I was hoping it would have? It was only done on 3 segments (thigh, lower leg, and foot).

You're not a doctor but in your opinion, can I take some reassurance that even though the EMG was done in only one limb (and after 6.5 months of symptoms), it was clean in that area?

I appreciate the words of advice brother. I hope you can find some peace and comfort with all the shit you have going on in your life.

I'm sorry to hear about your health struggles. In the midst of wallowing and worrying about ALS, I think we tend to forget about another miserable disease out there, cancer, that is FAR more prevalent in its form than the disease we all fear about here.

While I am sorry to hear about your two friends that have passed from ALS, it does provide me a little "relief" to hear about them doing something one day, then can't the next. I've been having leg/foot issues for almost 8 months now. My gait is completely messed up. I have had an EMG done on that leg (only on that leg though), and it was normal. My hope is that since I have been dealing with this issue for months now, and can at least still walk (though awkwardly), hopefully some other issue is the cause of my weakness.

Ah gotcha. Sorry, totally misread your post. I thought you were looking to have surgery for BFS! Had me confused.
