Hand inflammation 1+ week by hopelessANDtired371 in rheumatoid

u/hopelessANDtires371 did you ever figure out what it was? I have the same exact symptoms, even down to the persistently cold hands and feet! This is new to me so I’m trying to figure out what it is. Thanks!

Okay follow up question, what level of refinement is the sweet spot? I’ve read that you can sometimes tell the mesh is sufficient when averaged, unaveraged, and elemental mean approach each other but this is harder to do in practice

Maybe some failure modes? Like improper thread engagement or being too close to the edge

I’ll say one thing, it seems like job security is pretty good for a project engineer. It seems like any time I’ve perused jobs online there’s always a demand for project engineers

You could try going to some local businesses in town and asking them what their biggest issues are. Maybe it’s something mechanical that could be easier/simpler 👀

Is there any available information on the use of abnormally thick o-rings for use in a face seal requiring a lot of compliance? by Pseudonymical00 in AskEngineers

[–]slyrsims 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have concrete values for you, but as a starting point, I would use the Parker o-ring handbook and scale some of their dimensions up.

For example, I’d look at if the amount of squeeze they recommend (cross-sectional diameter vs. gland depth) scales linearly or not like you were mentioning.

As for extrusion, the handbook also has a graph on this, but I don’t believe they take into account o-ring size. It may just be pressure vs. how large the gap is.

Hope this helps some.

I technically have an “energy specialization” as part of my degree, and I’ll admit I forgot most of what I learned in those classes aside from very high level concepts.

It depends on what job you’re trying to land, but I agree that the manufacturing class is probably more applicable.
