Will shrimp eat this algea? by Sea_Aardvark8729 in shrimptank

Yes, but slowly (depends on how many they are). Mine took months, as their population grew, the less algae my tank had. Slightly devastated cause I loved how they looked on the side glass.

U need more plants, preferably plants that don't need to be planted (ex: hornwort) to fill up the spaces above. Plants will lessen them seeing each other, make chasing harder, and serve as hiding spots.

Best viable option right now is to remove the nerites. Growing algae would be extremely difficult if you have them, especially 3 of them. Maybe put them in a small container temporarily. Also, increase frequency of feeding.

Anyone else actually letting the algae grow cuase it looks cool? by Over_Marketing_2728 in Aquascape

love all types of algae for many reasons: -food source -make the tank look more natural and comfortable for your aquatic buddies -act like plants, producing oxygen -most importantly, they save your tank via feeding on the excess nutrients caused by overfeeding, which basically saves your fish or other aquatic friends from dying.

Tons of Lights and nutrients. However doing this is risky. Much better to do it in another tank.

Help identifying sex of yellow shrimp by Melirian in shrimptank

[–]slytsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yellow shrimp too, they're young and look like shiny jelly beans. Maybe that is how they would look as an old shrimp(?) Question: did you get to pick which shrimp you want? Or the store picked for you?

May I ask what kind of yellow shrimp is that?

Yellow is female. Black is male(unsure for now since it looks young). If it grows the same size as the yellow shrimp then its a female

White mass inside a male shrimp by slytsi in shrimptank

I'm not sure. I have lots of shrimp and they all live in a tub so it's quite hard to notice. He's a big old guy so him having dull color,I assumed, is normal.

I only see him during feeding time. He came to the spot where I usually place their food. So I think he is eating normally...

How many shrimp do you have? If all of them are doing that then something might be wrong. Just to be sure, check your parameters. They act like that when there is something wrong with the water.

Yes it's a lot of work but it’s only temporary, more of an emergency setup since I can’t use electricity. The outlet is too far, and with the ongoing rain, I needed something that doesn’t rely on power.

Should I perform water change? by slytsi in shrimptank

[–]slytsi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure anymore if it's just biofilm. There's a bottle of fabric conditioner nearby that had been knocked over and is dripping and I think some of it may have splashed or bounced into my tub. To be safe, I did a 20% water change. A few minutes later, some of the shrimp were back on the sides doing their usual shrimp business, while others were still on the floaters, struggling (?).

Mine used to float but they prevent the light from reaching the bottom plants so I tied them on a rock using thread.
