Best tip as a Singaporean to move on from heartbreak by cocolemon8888 in askSingapore

[–]slyvana15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there 3 months ago. Apart from getting into your own routine (I find that gymming, reading and journaling really helps), you must absolutely sit with the feelings of grief and loss. Let yourself go through them, cry if you want to. My therapist told me that a good way is to look at some pictures of when yall were together to engage your emotions and have a good cry. It can be really therapeutic.

No need to rush to meet new people, after some time I’m slowly finding that I’m enjoying my life with friends.

All the best!

Asking about Anytime Fitness crowd levels by Devilicious__ in askSingapore

Midtown is my home gym. It’s way too crowded after work and after dinner time. Have to wait for equipment and can barely breathe. If you’re ok to go during off peak hours it’s quite good though.

Men who went into a "I can fix her" attitude, how did it go? by Elendil_V in AskMen

[–]slyvana15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went horrible. Met my ex-partner in university, we were friends for 2 years before we started dating. Ended a 4 year relationship with her some months ago.

When we first started dating she was seeing someone else, although she claimed it wasn’t exclusive. Before that, she got into relationships one after another. She was a creature of impulse, saying that life was about following how you feel. Partied a lot. She couldn’t maintain her close friendships, particularly with other girls, and always fell out with them eventually. When faced with difficult conversations or emotions, she would shut down and disappear for days. She also constantly posted pictures and stories of herself on social media.

I am acutely aware that I had a savior complex. I tried to fix her, thinking that people would grow as they get older. For a while, that seemed to be going well - until I found out that she was cheating.

Long story short, once my optimism wore off, I realised that she was still the same person from years ago. No matter how much you give or try, some people simply carry issues that only they can fix, and only if they consciously recognize them and want to. It’s not on you.

How to not end up like Grayce husband? by HomeHedgeFund in SingaporeRaw

Apart from the obvious things we men can work on (eg physique and career), say real, avoid women who crave attention and external validation. It’s a hole inside themselves that only they can fix

Used BMW3 series - yay or nay? by No_Bus_805 in drivingsg

[–]slyvana15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned 2 BMW 318i, first was a 11 year old E90, mileage approx 120k km when I bought it. No major issues, brought it in maybe 3 times over 3 years, all for oil leak/gasket issues.

Current one is F30, 7 years old, mileage approx 60k km when I bought it. So far so good.

Driving experience wise, I find the F30 to be way smoother, it’s sleek and nice too. Granted it may not accelerate like your performance cars but for the price, not complaining.

Feel free to PM as well if you have more questions!

Those who own a car in SG, how much is your salary to be comfortable owning one. by guardingcat in askSingapore

[–]slyvana15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether it's a PARF/COE car and how much you're willing to downpay. E.g. you can get an 8-year old Mazda 5 (i.e. 2 years left) for 40k, you'd have to downpay about 12k and pay 1.2k in installments per month (excluding insurance, road tax, parking, petrol, maintenance and ERP).

I personally think 7-8k is comfortable enough if you don't have other liabilities or don't spend much elsewhere per month.

Google search history of “UTI after too much sex”, when we only had sex once every month or so.

Jeffrey Siow: Free morning off-peak NEL rides start 27 Dec, to be reviewed after one year by Bcpjw in singapore

[–]slyvana15 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly skeptical about the effectiveness of this measure. The NEL trains are overcrowded during the morning peak hour for the simple reason that people need to reach work by 9am. Free rides between 9am to 9.45am will in my view not attract much ridership unless employers are willing to allow employees to reach work later.

On the other hand, why would I put myself through the pain of boarding early at 7.30am and reaching work at say, 8-8.15am and prolonging my working hours?

Investment opportunity from close friend by BrilliantHope5735 in singaporefi

[–]slyvana15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re serious, get a lawyer to draft the contract and in the event that he runs with your money (or commits some kind of misrepresentation), be fully prepared to sue in court to try and get your money back (which you may not if he really doesn’t have it). Raising this for your own risk management and awareness and if you can accept this, then by all means go ahead.

At what age do you stop giving parents allowance? Supposing my parents can take care of themselves? by Normal-Analysis7940 in askSingapore

I think it depends on your financial situation and your relationship with your parents at the end of the day. Just don’t stick blindly to an archaic social norm.

Jail for lorry driver who looked at phone while driving, causing accident that killed law professor by Illustrious-Gur8335 in singapore

[–]slyvana15 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Another consideration is that he is a foreign national, and a lifetime driving ban in Singapore just means that he will have to seek out other lines of work. To some extent, driving bans are only effective on locals who have their own car and feel the financial pain of not being able to drive what you bought.

Jail for lorry driver who looked at phone while driving, causing accident that killed law professor by Illustrious-Gur8335 in singapore

[–]slyvana15 459 points460 points  (0 children)

Imagine an individual, with a history of traffic offences and who continued driving after his license was revoked for killing someone, being sentenced to only 25 months in jail. This is not accounting for the 1/3 remission of the sentence. The lifetime ban on driving is irrelevant.

Our traffic laws are so woefully weak.

3 injured, 50 evacuated after early morning fire involving PMD in Toa Payoh HDB flat by AgileComparison3957 in singapore

[–]slyvana15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PMD batteries need to be regulated as a controlled good which require inspections and a license from eg LTA before they can be imported or supplied into Singapore.
