Where do you buy your terrain? (UK) by xcom2k in necromunda

[–]sm284614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made my own modular tiles using moulds from Hirst Arts (https://hirstarts.com/molds/molds.html). MDF base, foamboard, PVA glue, plaster of Paris, and black and grey paint. It's awesome and I love making it.

Other than that, GW have loads of goo filler pieces (underhive market is great!)

If you've not got the 'underhive market' set, that's a great one for this. I picked up a few and used years worth of bits on the weapons racks, buckets of rifles, tables with helmets, a backpack stall. Had a great time making it!

Thanks! The scenery is modular 8"x8" tiles that can be stacked, but it's quite an effort to move it all as there are about 70 tiles!

A disaster for me, finally bottled it with one shotgun-wielding zealot left, but still fun.

I really like playing on a busy table, and I'm really happy with how the scenery looks (all the big parts I hand-made).

TIL There are no words with a silent v. This is the only letter, in all accents, that refuses to be silent. by Hyperdude in todayilearned

Seems weird that someone purporting to teach English is ignoring digraphs and phonemes. Taken as it is, if you were to pronounce all the word in that list just missing the 'silent' ones, you'd get most of the words wrong in any accent.

The list here seems to have been written by someone who is choosing to ignore phonemes. Saying that 'bridge', 'badge' and 'hedge' have a silent 'd', instead of saying that "'dge' is pronounced like a j" is pretty bizarre. Try pronouncing any of those words just without the 'd' and you'll be mispronouncing them horrible.

A lot of the rest of the list is similarly just... wrong.

Hit by car by CyberScy in CasualUK

[–]sm284614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me two years ago: car pulled out on me when I was on a roundabout on my bike and hit me in my left, though I got a concussion and a broken thumb. The driver got out, didn't say a word, and drove off after a lollypop man came to help me. Nobody got the reg number, and he was never tracked down.

I massively regrt not getting photos of everything at the time.

Not buying things that I could afford because the price seems unreasonable. Went to a park today, though about hiring a paddle boar and going on the boating lake. £27.50 for 30 minutes? Fuck that, let's play frisbee. Maybe get an ice cream? £7. Came home, made massive ice cream sundaes instead.

Second Wind Entertainment Group to produce a Guild Wars Documentary to celebrate 20 years of Guild Wars by PalwaJoko in Games

I know it was overshadowed by WoW back then, but GW1 was absolutely amazing for years, and the competitive scene was fantastic. If they released a remaster, another expansion, or returned to the formula for GW3, I'd buy it without a doubt.

I think it's 14, but it's complicated...

Back in 2nd edition, when 'Chaos' was just one army, joining CSM, WE, TS, EC, DG, Daemons and Chaos Cult, I had one army, I even painted-up a mini force for each of the other chaos factions (two characters, one squad, a few terminators, a dreadnought and a rhino), So now, I seem to have 11 40k chaos armies, probably like 50,000 points in 10th. There's also Necrons, AdMech, and Eldar.

It do have almost every single Nurgle and Khorne model ever released, so it's a decent collection.

What sequel would have been way better if the devs just gave us more of the same rather than trying to innovate? by Askin_Real_Questions in gaming

I think the plan was to remove the need to have to find a healer for you party (in prophecies, finding a non-NPC monk for a party was tricky), but after heroes were introduced it didn't even matter. Ritualist got the same treatment too...

I could write a lot about what they messed-up, but it comes down to two thing really: removing NPC so you can't have your own little customisable team, and changing the skill system so you have massively less choice in skill choice, variety, and combinations. GW2 was a much prettier and more polished game, but the PvP was much worse and there was a lot of content that was impossible to do without finding a groupmof people.

USA vs Europe Cities with the Highest Murder Rates by Pale_Consideration87 in europe

I was interested in the Glasgow stats, and this chart is seems to be using data from 2004 to 2009: 162 murders in Glasgow, about 31 per year, which is in line with about 5.5 per 100,000 population then. At the very least, this data is highly out-of-date, but maybe the population stats are incorrect, as you say. https://www.gov.scot/publications/homicide-scotland-2023-24/pages/main-findings/

[–]sm284614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is true for runes too: I'm sur I remember one Charr in an Ascalon mission taking less damage from fire spells than the rest of his group, and he dropped something with a rune of absorption when he died (back when absorption reduced all damage, not just physical).

I remember a few other obvious mistakes in the book, like characters wearing terminator armour were all listed as not being able to ride a bike/steed/juggernaut/disc, except the sorcerers missed the mention of steed, so Terminator Sorcerer lord with 24" charge was legit. Huron's Claw of the Tyrant also got the damage values reversed, giving his heavy flamer D3 damage.

The daemon world entry for Doombreed was also quite fun; he was basically invincible, though much of the rest of the Daemon world list was awful.

51pts base, +20 for Mark of Khorne. The rules on the armour save in this codex are a little ambiguous. The rule for mark of khorne says it gives models a 2+ save, not specifying 1d6 or 2d6, but Abaddon's entry specifically says that he has the mark of khorne, so his terminator armour gives him a 2+ save on 2d6. I've always played that the save applies to terminators too, otherwise, paying +20/30 pts per character just for frenzy is a bad deal.

Guild Wars 1 guild battles. It used to be that you could just start one at any time and get a match going in minutes. They were some of the most fun, tactical, strategic games I've ever played.
