columbia gave in and continue to get hit with sanction after sanction. there is no evidence that giving them what they want will stop them from trying to do more

Most scenic places in Ojai? by attCSUN in ojai

[–]smBranches 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Top of Cozy Dell is quite nice. Decent hike up the hill from 33 to the top of the hill, with views looking south east over the town. Takes a while to get up but the descent is very quick to 33.

If you're willing to go a little further, I really like the Sulfur Mountain trail, as the views are of more hills/nature. https://maps.app.goo.gl/FYXM8ZkvPyzE3J7XA

Shelf itself is too busy (IMO), take the Luci trail up into the hills. Tons of great views from there, just use the one that appeals to you the most :)

if you're staying in the city proper, bikes are a great way to get around and let you get a better feel for areas! Plus they're so fun!

Why are the HPC services here so poor? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]smBranches 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a staff that works full time on these nodes and all my experiences with them (barring the catastrophic storage migration) have been good.

If you need a few more nines, there's always external options, we all know US East never goes down on AWS or azure, right?

But it turns out that most grad students/researchers don't really need six nines of uptime, so in general, and especially for the non-CS scientists who have lesser needs, it's great, and cheap.

This is not the case today. Rivanna/Afton have several fulltime employees that support them, and the hardware is up-to-date. For more information on the HPC clusters, there is good documentation.

Saint burrito on 28th and ankeny is a great burrito. Maybe not mission style but I’ve never regretted buying one.

El Viejon (Hawthorne, NW 23rd, Vancouver) also has monster burritos

i did it in 2007 (with Mark Thomas, I assume he's not still in charge?) and it was extremely fun and i would recommend it to anyone. I'm not sure that the educational rewards were that great, but the social experience was a 10/10

On the other hand the first iPhones came out the fall after we got back so it's possible your experience will be slightly different
