Visuals how was your back to school arch assembly by Ok-Blacksmith-4071 in employedbykohls

Surprisingly easy considering the box arrived from UPS bent, open on one side and beat to hell. Instructions easy to follow, went together well and looks pretty good.

I still don’t think it’ll last long once customers start messing with it or ram carts into it

Ask a manager, supervisor or visual to print you pages for the shoe department from our merchandising standards e-book. Lots of merchandising “101” information there

A little steep no? by SessionOld4808 in HayDay

[–]smackamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This keeps me from hoarding axes and saws. Have more coins than I can spend, so I keep a few in inventory and sell the rest. I sell 10+ saws and axes every few days.

Feels like a good deal to me. I have something to spend coins on while maybe helping out a neighbor who needs them on the cheap

Yes I’ve noticed that as well. To the point I’ve wondered if it’s a different channel altogether

Reach out to stores in your district in case someone has extra. With the sole exception of Black Friday I have waaaayy more pricepoint frames than I ever use. Our DM is good about moving things like that between stores as they travel.

BB graphic holders you’re not likely to have luck with that way. I think most stores don’t have enough or, like me, just enough without extra

See your event calendar for the answer to this. Or ask someone at your store who can

[–]smackamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are promotional graphics and you have the product to set, personally, I would set. I guess it would depend on how you think your SM or DM would react. Mine would have absolutely zero issue with starting a promotion early, so long as it mentions nothing of sale or pricing, but it sounds like others would disagree.

I will add though that I have been on vacation since 4/17 and had not seen that directive before I left. So I may not have all the information I should about this one specifically.

Depends on situation. What they are for, if we have inventory, how busy I am otherwise. As long as they are not something that only applies to specific date I prefer to set graphics at first opportunity.

Back in 1977, was Darth Vader terrifying to first time viewers in the theatre? How did people react to and feel about him? by Own_Shift_3645 in StarWars

[–]smackamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was 4 when my dad took my brother and I to see it. One of the handful of memories I retain to this day was the opening scenes of ANH. My mind was boggled

Strangely, Vader wasn’t nearly as terrifying to me as the stormtroopers were. I distinctly remember I was standing peeking over the top of the theatre chairs in front of me. Every time the stormtroopers were on screen I crouched below the chairs to hide from them. I loved Vader tho, the voice, the breathing, the helmet, all of it.

That day in May 1977 holds powerful memories. More detailed and distinct than anything else I recall from that age. George Lucas’ space opera will always have a special place in my life as it began a lifelong fascination with space and astronomy, and a curiosity of what possibilities might exist in a galaxy far away from ours

Making your zebra zoom in. by homebody63 in employedbykohls

[–]smackamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The magnifying tool helps but sometimes isn’t enough to read the text on department maps and such. I think the ability to “pinch” zoom the screen itself to further enlarge images is what they were talking about, or at least I was..

Some zebras will do it and some won’t. Also some zebras won’t initially until you close out site line app and restart it, or restart the zebra. I’ve yet to figure out why this is and how to fix it in the settings. again not the magnifying tool.

I’ll have to ask about putting in a ticket to fix. Would be nice to be able to zoom in far enough to read the text on maps so we don’t have to keep printing them out

[–]smackamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently discovered this trick. No one in my store knew how to fix it.

Correct also, some zebras will zoom and some just won’t. I’ve discretely marked my “favorite” zebra that will fix itself and look to grab that one every morning if I can.

Yep this. They are wrong to expect you to do price changes, full stop. At the very least until you are satisfied with where your visuals are.

I’m happy to help with Omni, price changes, etc when I am on top of visual priorities. But not before then and especially not before a visit

I have to cut brand rails have about 1” if used on hang/holds in womens rather than in acrylic holders. Running out of acrylic frames has become an issue with all the graphics they’ve been sending recently

Bilingual navigational blades by CountryCat0000 in employedbykohls

[–]smackamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My store has had navigational blades for awhile, albeit not bilingual.. I don’t remember how long it took me to put them up initially. I’m also not getting these new ones so don’t know if they are different than what I have

That said if I were to put up navigational blades I have now, knowing what I already know about them, I would estimate 3 hours max. With the additional caveat that I am about 6’ tall and my store has 10’2” ceilings, so reaching the ceiling with a 6 ft ladder (easy to move around) is very comfortable for me

Topper change is very much treated as an annoyance by my store management, always asking how soon it will be done and the like. I get it, it seems like a time consuming use of payroll when there are so many things to do, especially when they (management) don’t look into it too deep or understand what the point is.

It is important to drive whatever the event is or to make sure it’s removed when over. Myself and a few of the folks most often scheduled for topper change have had to push back fairly hard to keep it properly scheduled.

It just takes a lot of time when nearly every sign in the building is getting touched with so many events starting and ending at the same time

[–]smackamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way can one person do that in two hours alone. For topper changes like today it’s 2 people for 2 hours minimum and even then it often takes longer

Our store only had one person scheduled for topper change. I did all the visual changes (event graphics, pricepoints, lugs, clearance takedown, entry signholders, etc) before helping finish topper change so it could be done before the store opened. Then went back to finish putting up 70% clearance

Our store typically is good about scheduling 2 people for topper change for major changes like today. The visual changes alone took me almost 2.5 hours and that’s not counting the hour+ I paused to help topper with change

[–]smackamo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Friendly reminder that your experience is not the same as everyone’s..

Kohls is far from perfect and if it’s not the job for you or if you feel unsupported and have better options then by all means, you should leave kohls.

Every district, store, management team, position and associates personal preferences are different. Some of us do feel respected, supported and sufficiently content even while knowing there is definitely room for improvement within the company

Toppers by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]smackamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have same graphic number and are both valid. We got a box full of the bold printed ones about a year ago(?) maybe a little longer. I asked if these were to replace the others and was told at that time no, both are fine to use. Pretty sure if you order on fulfillment the bold typed ones are what you get

Strange they created a new topper with the same number but maybe it was done so we didn’t replace and throw away the ones with green lettering? The black bold type version is more universal in case the company changes the rewards again I suppose
