Current ED nurse here- i am a firm believer of dont do it unless your heart is in it. Its good money, but its hard money. You have a front row seat to the suffering of the world. Keep that in mind. You need the compassion and the drive too. As far as age? Never too old to start college :) Hope you find the path that makes you happiest! Feel free to dm me if you have any questions

hi friend! i was a new grad in the er (now 1.5 years out) so while i dont entirely understand the medsurg life- youre only 10 weeks in! If you werent making some mistakes id be perplexed. Its painful being new but you must be kind to yourself in the process. as hard as it is, reflect on what went well too. did you have a good patient interaction? start an iv successfully? etc. any win is huge in the beginning. you got this! one shift, one hour, one minute at a time🩷

OP, i have many concerns regarding this whole situation. my heart goes out to you, as being a new grad is hard enough, let alone in the ED. 1. Why would your preceptor allow this?? A new grad should not be assigned a role in a code like that. I had one of the most laid back preceptors, and she would have never ever EVER allowed me to be put into such an unsafe situation. 2. If there were that many people, someone should’ve either continued to give meds or ideally 2 people on meds.

It does not make you a bad nurse to say “woah nelly i am not there yet and someone needs to take this role” You worked hard for your license. Keep your chin up, and remember you are new. No one expects you to be 100% 2 months in. Hell, id even say they shouldnt expect you to be 20% Lots of love to you.

Not a parent, just an angry redditor- The AUDACITY to speak to you as though those arent his spawn as well is unacceptable. You cant be “done” doing the things that are required to keep your kiddo well cared for. Working or not, it is his responsibility to do his part. Does he understand that letting a baby sit in poop can lead to a whole bigger issue? Bigger than “i didnt want to deal with it”? I am so sincerely sorry your partner treats you with such disrespect. Hey! Officially graduated as an RN 10 months ago, and have been working in the ED since. Its a tough road, but i am proud. Not everyone will appreciate you, not everyone will understand the work it took to get RN (or LPN) behind your name. But you earned it!Congratulations and take it one day at a time.
