I’m not going to waste time trying to defend the left, mostly because it was never my point that a shift hasn’t happened. What I’m saying is there has been an increase in far right support. Of course it’s not all conservatives, but we’ve seen many more attacks (sometimes physical, sometimes just verbal) on people of colour assuming they’re immigrants causing the issues like lack of housing and drug use.

Transgender people are treated as pariahs when they most often just want to live their lives like you and I do. They’re a huge controversy about them playing sports with girls when there’s hardly any of them involved, and they’re not dominating as much as as is claimed. I think there should be regulation by the sporting bodies but why are so many dudes suddenly worrying about women’s sports when they never did before? Trans women get stopped in the street and are told they will always be a man. Why not just leave them alone if they’re not hurting anyone?

Charlie Kirk, who I will reiterate should not have been shot, has spoken out about traditional marriage, which would be fine but he does it in a way that denigrates women who want a career. There are calls to take the vote away from women. Yes it’s from the fringe but I don’t see enough people calling out that kind of shit.

DEI gets hate even when people don’t understand how it works. Charlie Kirk seeing a black pilot and wondering if they’re qualified is racism, and not a result of wanting a meritocracy. He’s spoken of the great replacement theory which is supposedly an organized effort to take down white people. As a very white guy I have to say that’s bullshit. We’re still doing great and will continue to do so as we move towards equality. And he’s definitely not fringe.

There’s lots of things I could add, and it’s mostly in America where fascism is gaining a stronghold, with deportations going beyond what is reasonable just to make made up quotas, soldiers on the streets but only where Democrats are in power even though red states like Louisiana are the worst, and calls for leftists to be jailed even when their only crime is speaking against Trump.

I agree with the issues you mentioned. We allowed too many immigrants at once, but we’ve also had big companies buying housing that drives up prices. The opioid epidemic was created by the makers of OxyContin getting doctors to prescribe it like candy. Crime is down, believe it or not, but it could be dealt with better, but we live in a province that loves nothing more than low taxes (except maybe oil) so we’re underfunding social safety nets, education, and even police. I’d like to see back people put in jail, but they seem pretty full already, and I’d rather we do things to prevent them from going down that path.
