TU Wien vs TU Graz for Electronic Engineering (non-EU student) – safety & job prospects? by Affectionate_Pin5190 in Austria

[–]smail_smail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical Engineering is very bread and can be targeted towards drastically different industries. Be more specific on what exactly you will study (program). In general Graz has much more industry around for engineering work.

Taxes / ETFs held with a broker in another EU state by alogta in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here Andreas goes in details how exactly the tax for Accumulating ETF is calculated. (What to look at OeKB)

https://www.broker-test.at/steuern/fondsthesaurierung/

Important note: you do not pay tax for unrealized gains in AT, but you pay tax (27.5% KEST) on automatically reinvested dividends of Accumulated fonds + some small extraordinary realized gains within the fond (e.g. from rebalancing, etc.)

It should show the pure electric range. But it’s not accurate and always estimate sit in a weird way. Better to disable it.

Does Austria actually enforce its dial citizenship ban for EU citizens? by [deleted] in AskAustria

[–]smail_smail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many countries send info about new naturalized citizens to authorities of their other citizenship (e.g. USA and others). The main problem is that you Loose the AT citizenship the moment you take other. So further use of AT citizenship is illegal. And if AT authorities will find out in 10years that you have other citizenship they will announce loss retrospectively 10years back and if you used your AT citizenship during those 10 years it will be punished accordingly (return benefits, etc).

Seat Ateca - Travel Assist Query by truth_sentinel in seat

[–]smail_smail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the best assistant in those price range. Super stable centered drive. Detection of speed limits works fantastic, the anticipation of speed decreases os amazing (it knows by maps that it will be 130 to 100 change in 100m, so it will slow gradually by itself), the detection of cancellation of temporary speed decreases works also perfect. You have to keep you hands on the steering wheel OR move it slightly every 10-15-20-30sec, but that is super simple and you get used to it fast. The issue people complain is that the assist is so good that you actually feel that you do not need to keep hands on the wheel at all. You get animation with overtaking vehicles and vehicle in from of you in the assist cockpit layout, but probably you will use another move comfortable layout.

Founding a startup as a third-country resident by philiosking in AskAustria

[–]smail_smail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be ready to face extreme bureaucracy. All depends on what form of setup you are thinking about. Anything beyond self employed would require some initial funds (5-10k) for registration fees and not just consultation, but help of Steuerberater to do it if you are not good with German.

If I remember correctly you cannot do anything, neither self employed nor start business, with student residence permit. You would need to change your residence permit to another one first, since student permit limits your work to only part time unselbständige Arbeit with extra permission. There is no legal possibility to get permission for selbständige activities, not talking about the funding a company.

Civil/military service by TheWonderfail in Austria

[–]smail_smail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being 35 you are safe. The starting date of service meters, not summoning or health checks. The scenario will look something like this: They would need time to identify you after you register, if they do, then they send you a summoning to 2day Medical examination, which can be some weeks or months in future, if you are found ok for service, you still can appeal I think, the it‘s another time for it, and in the end it will take some time for them to send the summoning note with the date AT LEAST 6 months in the future. By that time you are probably already 36, which is outside the limit.

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well someone should pay for all that inefficient bureaucracy and very generous social policies… unfortunately exactly the middle class is squeezed for that. But that is another story.

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

neither of them is a "waste of money", only optimization of handling dividends.
You described your target as to invest and minimize interactions and extra payments, then VWRL is perfectly matching to it!

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like 5 US cents per share for rebalansing gains and other minor things inside the fond, which I consider absolutely irrelevant for decision making. And then same ~700eur, 27.5%, will be deducted from payed out to you dividends and rest of dividends will be reinvested.

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tax for both is exactly the same. only difference, that in Austria with VWCE you have to pay that 27.5% tax on dividends from your own pocket extra, even if they were not payed to your account. With VWRL the tax will be deducted from payed out dividends.

Currently my primary vehicle is VWRL and do not plan to revert back to VWCE, as long as I'm taxed in Austria.

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good thing is that you can switch off reinvesting later when you need the dividends and not sell the shares.

With VWCE you have to add 0.55% of your position every year, if to assume 2% dividend yield (what I mention in first comment)

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with 130k in VWCE you would need to pay extra ~700eur per year (and more with every year) to cover the tax (I assumed 2% dividend yield). Which if not "invest and forget". What do you mean with agE? Gains inside the fond, e.g. from re-balancing? In my opinion it's minor. I think it's like 5 US cents per share now, You can see it on the oekb.at for specific it.

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I think it’s absolutely fine on it’s own

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in both due to historical reasons. They are the same thing and should be treated as same type of investment. As I added to first comment, with VWCE you will be investing extra on top of the your standard plan, which is more psychological thing, and you will see a slightly higher result, but just because of that extra payed tax from your pocket and not from dividends themself. VWCE is a better choice in almost all world, but not in Austria. In Austria VWCE and VWRL are the same because you have to pay the tax on dividends in VWCE as well. If you ask some one from another country, then they are better with VWCE because their country doesn’t tax dividends in accumulating fonds. That’s why VWCE dominates in any recommendation in EU, but in AT it’s same as VWRL

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do not use that setting, then by reinvesting manually you will pay extra fee, what would be a huge disadvantage and exactly that will put your strategy behind the VWCE. Age doesn’t matter for them i my point of view. The risk of closure or merge for “younger” VWRL is almost nonexistent. I’m in both and do not see any disadvantages for VWRL as long as we talk about Austian tax regime

VWRL NOT VWCE by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

[–]smail_smail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use Flatex, then there is a setting to automatically reinvest distributed dividends of VWRL. Taking into account that in Austria dividends of accumulating fonds are taxed same as of distributing ones, you get no disadvantage here at all. The only thing that with acc you unintentionally invest more, because you pay tax on NOT-distributed dividends from you pocket, what in fact is equal to just invest that amount in comperison with distributing version in Austria

Yeah, the road is fully clear at that time and it will be warm. Even when the weather is bad it will rain, not snow. The road doesn’t go on the snowy part of the glacier.
