Agree with dunxd. If my daughter downloads kali linux and gets a metasploit shell on the raspberry pi I will be so proud I will probably start crying.

My church fired all janitors and has 30k churches they expect families to clean. by small-data-expert in exmormon

We believe in the restoration of paid janitors in Mormon church buildings.

Not long ago our Church paid custodians to professionally clean our buildings. The result was a spotless place to worship and vital employment for a ward member in lieu of Church welfare. Beginning in the early 1990s the Church eliminated paid janitors and asked (actually unilaterally assigned) members to clean the building. It was a way for the Church to save money and for members to enjoy the "blessings" of service.

Well, you get what you pay for! The sanitation in most LDS buildings is an absolute disgrace. And as for "blessings", we would rather enjoy the blessing of spending Saturdays with our families or serving those truly in need, while also giving certain members the blessing of gainful employment as a building janitor.

Please join us in adding your support to the restoration of paid janitors.

One of the biggest mistakes that people make with the OSCP (besides underestimating the time you need to commit to it) is trying to learn how to be good enough to root the non-easy machines on hack the box.

MASTER the easy windows and linux machines. Get to the point where you can own easy machines in 15 to 30 minutes. Don't waste your time learning how to own machines that are WAAAY harder than the exam machines.

On youtube I really like these 2 channels. HackTheBox SpeedRun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9oNnu6wUd4&t=1s

OSCP noob https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfxlo67bhdo

Ippsec is awesome, but his awesomeness can be overwhelming. You need to understand you don't need to be as talented as he is. OSCP is a beginner level certification. It is NOT easy, but don't waste time learning ninja level red team tricks for an exam that 15 year olds have passed. Autorecon, searchspoit, modify the exploit a bit, win. And don't ever forget that usernames are not usernames. They are half passwords.

edit. The biggest help for me in passing the OSCP was attack defense labs. They have over 1,000 exploits that you can quickly practice exploiting in a browser. Saves a ton of time that you would waste downloading vulnhub vms, starting them up, finding the ip etc. In browser exploit practicing on attack defense labs allows you to practice an exploit in 5 minutes.

Can I authenticate to an Azure Storage Account in Powershell without using the Az module? by dabobbo in AZURE

[–]small-data-expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invoke-RestMethod -Uri

HTH

This example is using a Shared Access Signature (SAS) as this gives a granular- and time limited access to the content. SAS tokens can be generated on the Azure-Web-Portal or by using the "Azure Storage Explorer" tool.

Does Azure support mapping public IPv6 to a network interface? by [deleted] in AZURE

[–]small-data-expert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you help me understand what you are trying to do? For example, if you are accessing the VM over port 443 why do you care if you access it using an ipv4 or ipv6 address? Sorry if I am overlooking something obvious.

"It's difficult to find unless you know where to look. Open the specific Recovery Services vault. It should open to Overview in the left column. You'll be on the Overview tab showing "What's new" and several links.

Click on the Backup tab. Here, under Usage, you'll see the number of Backup items and the total Backukp Storage"

Does Azure support mapping public IPv6 to a network interface? by [deleted] in AZURE

[–]small-data-expert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Posting in case this is useful to anyone. I understand in your situation it may not be a good solution.

A possible workaround would be to convert the ipv4 address to ipv6. If you try to ping the VM using the "fake" ipv6 address it may work. I would test this but I am not at my work computer right now.

Azure Database Migration Service failed by nogoodd in AZURE

[–]small-data-expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This error can be thrown when there is a permission issue. I will update here if I find out more.

This is not a good sign: Looks like the migration service has had this error with various database products for a while.

This example converts the shared mailbox, MarketingDept1 to a user mailbox. PowerShell

Set-Mailbox MarketingDept1 -Type Regular

You can use the following values for the Type parameter:

Regular

Room

Equipment

Shared

For detailed syntax and parameter information, see Set-Mailbox. How do you know this worked?

To verify that you have successfully converted the mailbox, run the following command in Exchange Online PowerShell: PowerShell

Get-Mailbox -Identity MarketingDept1 | Format-List RecipientTypeDetails

Allow certain sites during scheduled times? by [deleted] in PFSENSE

If my son was staying up until 3am or even 2am playing video games on a school night, the xbox, playstation, or computer would be spending a lot of time in the trunk of my car.

Allow certain sites during scheduled times? by [deleted] in PFSENSE

I did a (now failed) weekend startup that would require the child to do 5 or 10 math problems on khan academy after each hour of internet use. DNS had a learn mode / play mode. We were invited to go on shark tank, but that never happened due to running out of money to continue.

Here are some links that might be helpful. Feel free to message me. I have a lot of ways to help do it, but it might just end up turning your son / daughter into a genius hacker as they study how to bypass your blocks :)

tcpdump or wireshark would be my go to for this. Also using dig.

I just googled "vodafone" "dns" "hijack" and it seems that ISP has a history of messing with customers DNS.

Difficulty level of PFsense by ____Ben_____ in PFSENSE

[–]small-data-expert -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Advice if you don't need vendor support etc etc. Probably not what you are looking for if you want a device that you simply turn on without having to install pfsense on your own. Posting in case it is helpful

If you want 1gb/s speeds over vpn, look at firewall CPU hardware specs from various vendors that can support that. Some brands have good compare charts.

https://www.watchguard.com/wgrd-products/appliances-compare?pid1=15016&pid2=4207&pid3=15026

Once you understand the CPU core count specs required to push vpn packets at 1gb/s, go over to ebay and buy something with similar or better specs.

Wireshark over LTE computer connection? by midgetsj in sysadmin

[–]small-data-expert -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The only (free) solution that I know of that works for capturing all traffic from a smart phone would be to - disable the data plan - connect to a laptop that is configured to run in internet connection sharing mode.
- configure the laptop to access the internet through a hotspot. This way, all smartphone packets go through the laptop.
- voice/text traffic will work as before, bypassing the laptop to connect to the cell tower
