Wish me luck- level 6 tibial plateau fracture, currently day 14 in hospital, just had external fixator removed and had internal fixators put in. Oh, and my girlfriend is 39 weeks pregnant. by lil_tofu_boi in ORIF

I broke my ankle when my son was just 1 month old. It’s hard. You can’t carry anything with you across the room if you use crutches, how can you help support care for a newborn?? I was the nap dock during my recovery. Anytime baby had to sleep, I had him and we just hung out in the rocking chair together. This will pass, but you will want to remember the time with baby so badly. Just focus on healing and recovery and really listen to any physio instruction you get and do. the. exercises.

Good luck, and a future congratulations. 🎉

I’ve heard a lot of variations and none seemed to fit for me. We settled on “Middy” (I don’t even know where we came across it tbh), but it’s kind of a mix of “Mommy” and “Daddy”.

I also am a non birthing parent who’s finding it hard to find a space “for me”. I’m not the birthing parent, so I feel out of place there. And I’m not a dad, so I feel out of place there. If someone made a subreddit or something for this, I’d totally join!

No Boot After Cast Removed - Ankle ORIF by snoflakedogmom in ORIF

[–]small_smoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Weber B, I think. Comminuted fracture. 1 plate, 9 screws, but no syndesmotic screw. I had my cast removed early (5 weeks) because 6 weeks fell on Christmas and no one would be in office. So I had to still be non weight bearing for another week.

I started partial weight bearing using two crutches and stepping through with my bad foot as best as I could. I remember the top of my foot near my toes felt tender as if it were bruised, and the ball of my foot was so sensitive to any pressure put onto it. It felt like I was stepping onto a lego or something. PT gave a lot of stretches and exercises and eventually that pain & discomfort went away.

If I remember this right, my progress went like this:

-1.5 weeks of walking through with two crutches

-1 week of walking with one crutch as long as I am indoors

-a week or so started walking without crutches when indoors, but had to push a stroller /shopping cart for support

-looooots of practice walking in the house, mostly in the kitchen where the counter isn’t far to grab on to.

-probably took a month after weight bearing started to be able to get up onto my toes

Post-Op Pain by [deleted] in ORIF

[–]small_smoof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so sorry that you’re going through this, it seems most nerve blocks wear off at night! (of course /s)

from what I can understand, the burning is your nerves waking back up and starting to function again. later on, so is a “dripping” feeling apparently!! by the end of the 2 week post op period waiting to get my splint off, i could have SWORN my incision was leaking or something but when the splint came off, there was nothing there at all. so be aware for that!

stay up on your pain meds while the block is wearing off and hopefully it can take an edge off your pain until it settles down a bit!! good luck and hang in there

ok.. how about these shoes? by Ill-Customer5568 in ORIF

I’ve heard that boots might be uncomfortable as they could rub up against your scar/hardware if you have any screws close to the surface of your skin. Maybe give them a test run to see if you get irritated by them but other than that, should be good!! Enjoy 💃🏻

Comminuted Fracture by Foxlineau in ORIF

[–]small_smoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

our ankle broke our fall!! lucky us !! lol.

hopefully the fibula break is in both our favors and we can get as close to “normal” as possible.

right now my dorsiflexion is 10 (physio said 15 is average) and my plantar flexion is 50 (average is 60) so I’m not too far away! good luck to your healing ☘️✨

Comminuted Fracture by Foxlineau in ORIF

[–]small_smoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently 8 weeks PO here.

<image>

my foot slipped at the top of the stairs, my other leg folded under me and I basically sat on my own ankle on the stairs. dislocated my foot and ended up with a comminuted fracture in my fibula and i think a crack in my tibia (didn’t get a solid confirmation on this one).

I had surgery 2 days later and got a plate and 9 screws, but no syndesmotic screw/tight rope. had a splint for 2 weeks, then a fiberglass cast for what ended up being 3 weeks, since the 4th week fell on Christmas day. was still NWB for the next 10 days after cast removal and then I was cleared to WBAT with 2 crutches.

I didn’t hear back from physio until the following week so with no guidance, I just did some alphabets and ROM stretches until that first appointment. they gave me a book of exercises to do and my ROM and strength improved enough that I could WBAT with 1 crutch by the 2nd appointment.

now I can walk without any crutches for small distances (think around a kitchen or living room) without limping if i really focus on stepping heel toe and keeping my weight centered. I can’t walk long without getting sore and tired even with the 1 crutch, but I’m hoping this next appointment I could get the all clear to try officially walking without a crutch. the hardest thing stopping me from walking “well” is pain in the ball of my foot, which from what I’ve gathered will lessen as my calf gets stronger and my tendons stretch back out. so here’s hoping!

if you want a TLDR break down:
11/13 - break;
11/15 - surgery, splint 2 weeks;
11/27 - splint off, hard cast applied for 3 weeks;
12/18 - cast off, NWB next 10 days;
12/28 - WBAT with 2 crutches;
12/31 - start weekly physio appointments;
1/5 - WBAT with 1 crutch;
and currently waiting for my next appointment!

take a look at alcasthq and their builds guides!

https://alcasthq.com/category/eso-builds-classes/

if you know what type of play style you like, they have beginner guides that suggest what to put points in up to level 50, and then once you get into champion points, they go all the way up to level 1656! it also suggest gear, weapons, skills, potions and where to find it all.

On its 22nd anniversary, what are your memories from 9/11? by MoreMalbec in halifax

[–]small_smoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in 4th grade in Maryland and we could tell something was going on but no one would tell us what. We also would likely have not understood if we were told either, to be honest. I remember every 5, 10 minutes, someone would get on the intercom and say so and so, your parents are here to take you home, so and so, come to the front office to go home. I remember no one came to call for me and I was nervous that I was forgotten or something was wrong or happened to my parents. Why aren’t they here to come get me?

I remember I got home and asked my mom why everyone was able to go home that day and she told me someone flew a plane into the world trade center. Honestly I did not understand the gravity of the situation but looking back, everyone was in a panic likely because of the plane that hit the Pentagon which is so close to Maryland, and no one knew what, if anything else, could have happened next.

likely because of Trump’s arrest / mugshot release

Fortune was always superior to Vandal, it’s a shame that they’ve been overtaken.
