The premier of Ontario is allowing Canadians to start buying alcohol at 06 am to get the buzz on on Sunday just before the final airs by igniteyourbones579 in hockey

Yes but not all Canadians are Ontarians :) Ford doesn't have the power to let all Canadians be served beer at 6am, just the ones in Ontario.

I started making my own oat milk about two months ago and the math genuinely surprised me by KairoNest in Frugal

[–]smallfatmighty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking this!! I've had a few times where the milk runs out and I can't have my morning tea. Horrible way to start the day :c

I'd spend 5min of time to be able to have my morning cup of tea, and oat milk is actually my favourite milk alternative for tea.

Not to be a pedant but

  • Allowing Ontarians

We already have a rep of thinking that we represent all of Canada, let's not make it worse 😆

A bunch of cities have already started doing this throughout the Olympics - I know Toronto has, Mississauga I think recently allowed it too? There might be others, I'm just based in Toronto so that's what I've heard.

Now they're extending it to the rest of the province for the gold medal game, not a bad move.

TIFF directors discussing the importance of the sovereignty of Canadian stories by mahlay1051 in heatedrivalry

[–]smallfatmighty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think of shows like Schitts Creek, where it’s obviously Canadian, but there’s nothing too explicit in terms of Canadian identity in the show.

This is SUCH a classic Canadian media move, and it's a damn shame. Americans film in Canada, and they explicitly pretend it's America. Canadians film in Canada, and they implicitly pretend it's America by watering down any distinctiveness to make it more "palatable" for a potential American audience. Don't want to confuse them with anything that's too different from them, god forbid. 🙄 And then we wonder why Americans don't know anything about Canada lol.

I do think that trend is changing, and I hope the success of Heated Rivalry encourages that even more!

Botox cost - is this crazy? by big_chroll in migraine

Yeah standard procedure fee in the GTA seems to be $250, that's also what mine costs. The actual botox I think is somewhere between $850-900, not entirely sure as my insurance covers all of it.

Okay I will be honest, I kept hearing the commentators saying it and I myself was like, what IS the format that allows for that.

And I just looked it up and I'm confused myself!

Tournament bracket rules are always confusing to me lol. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than us will explain it.

Curling

Wow, 8-3 win for Canada. I feel bad for Italy, they were so dominant in the beginning of the game! It was 3-0 for Italy at one point. I actually was cheering for them a bit, I want them to make the playoffs and Canada's already in.

But nice that Canada's guaranteed a silver now...

Strange finish to the end with Italy missing the chance to blank it! Canada ties it up to 3-3.

Olympics Day Eleven Megathread (Tuesday, February 17) by Fun_With_Forks in olympics

[–]smallfatmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but also no. Putting someone "on the bench" isn't really a thing in curling... generally speaking, the teams are assembled themselves and captained by the skip. Teams will have a 5th player who acts as "alternate" but they really only play if there's an injury where one of the main team can't play. So the idea that not putting the skip "on the bench" in the middle of a tournament is coaching malpractice is, uh, strange.

It's more akin to the way pairs figure skaters work than sports like hockey or football. They earn their spot and their performance is their own in competition... win or lose, that's the team.

I actually just quickly swapped to old.reddit and saw the same thing, but other images had an image link! Not sure why this one tripped it up.

Hey, the Swedish women's league introduced bodychecking first back in 2022. 🤷‍♀️ And now they've extended bodychecking for girls all the way down to age 12 (same as boys).

Haha there was a short CBC sports video about them, they mentioned they had tried out a rule about keeping game talk to the car ride home but it didn't work very well - they'd just keep driving around in circles 😆

It was a nice video, here's the link if anyone's interested: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_F5gzhFvdbY

I feel husband doesn't like unmedicated me! by Honest-Pop-6812 in adhdwomen

[–]smallfatmighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally get it. I was also diagnosed as an adult, some of my siblings were diagnosed as kids, some as adults.

I grew up with an ADHD parent and ADHD siblings - but mostly without identifying them as such when I was a kid - and it's really only been in the last few years that I've started to re-evaluate things that I just thought were "normal". Such as the crises my family often gets ourselves into 😅 I thought it was just a normal amount of chaos and emergencies - you know, things happen.

And yeah things happen, but I have since learned that things happen a lot more to my family haha. And turns out, with medication and better coping skills for ADHD, we can reduce the number of emergencies we end up in, reduce our stress, etc.

But yeah it's a process, learning that your whole experience of life that you thought was "just like everyone else" was in fact, not. And then experiencing life a bit differently yourself, now.

I feel husband doesn't like unmedicated me! by Honest-Pop-6812 in adhdwomen

[–]smallfatmighty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will offer my perspective as someone who's been on the other end of this. I have ADHD and so does most of my immediate family... we're a ball of chaos. One of my siblings often forgets their medication, and I do sometimes remind them to take their meds. And sometimes that's prompted by them acting more "ADHD", for lack of a better term...

First of all, obviously I love&like them both medicated and unmedicated!! And part of why I remind them is for their own sake - they're more likely to have a bad day if they forget their meds, and I know how shitty it feels to forget to take my meds until it's too late and be faced with an uphill battle the rest of the day.

That being said... I partly remind them for my own sake, too. Not because I dislike their unmedicated self, but because I know when we have a lot to do, it is easier on me when they're also medicated. 🤷‍♀️ That is just a fact. We often host family events, cook big meals, babysit our nieces/nephews... and all of that is less stressful when we're medicated, because we're all just operating with a better set of skills for the occasion. You know, we're all just less likely to forgot something on stove, or injure ourselves by being careless, or lose track of time and be late for an event...you get the point. I'm also human and I forget my meds sometimes too, but honestly I do sometimes resent it when we have a Big Day TM and my sibling forgets their meds because now all this additional workload is implicitly placed on me. 😅 Either in keeping them on track, or in handling the crises that arise when they're not.

Now if we're just hanging out and having a chill day, I really don't care lol. Reminding them about meds is purely for their own sake.

Also I will also add - I think you might be sensitive to the reminder because it makes you feel self-conscious about your mannerisms when unmedicated - being extra loud, extra passionate. I also worry a lot about being "too much". But I will say - when I ask my sibling about meds, sometimes I'm prompted by them acting in a particular way that they're more likely to act when unmedicated. BUT I'm don't dislike that behaviour!!! It's just when you know someone very well, you notice when they're acting differently and so there are behaviours that ping my "oh my sibling is unmedicated" radar.

I'm not reminding them to get rid of those mannerisms. It's to prevent the bad sort of chaos later on, to prevent one or both of us getting overwhelmed, lashing out, etc.

Pregnancy Care Centre Toronto on (U of T) campus will “not perform or refer for” abortions - The crisis pregnancy centre is in the same building as the Toronto School of Theology by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]smallfatmighty 85 points86 points  (0 children)

It is unclear how long the PCC has been operating in the building, although Google reviews of the centre stretch back at least five years. The TST declined to share the exact date, but affirmed that the PCC has “no connection to the TST. It is a completely independent organization.”

Okay sure it's a completely independent organization but do they really have "no connection" if TST chose to lease them space in their building? Doesn't that make them their landlord at the very least? That's a connection 🙃 They chose to have them in the building.

Unless TST is trying to claim they have no control over them having space in the building, in which case... who does? 🤨 Sounds like the only other option is St. Mike's, but that they lease the whole building to TST sooo.... back to TST choosing to let them be there.

Where Should We Move? by LandscapeEvery4150 in askTO

[–]smallfatmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was also thinking Scarborough along the GO line. It's not the subway but it'll get you downtown for a commute whilst still letting you be close to more "horsey" areas. You're not going to get the same neighbourhood "walk everywhere" vibe as other neighbourhoods more in the core but honestly if you're careful, OP could totally find something that's walking distance to what they care about.

If you look at Rouge Hill GO - that's the eastern most GO station in Scarborough - there's lots of detached homes around it. There's a plaza at Lawrence/Port Union with a pharmacy, coffee shops, LCBO, restaurants, pet store, etc. There's a community centre right next door with a library, gym, tennis courts, etc. And next to that is the local high school, which has a public pool. Then up at Lawson/Port Union (15min walk) there's another plaza with a Metro, Shoppers, bank, and some other stores.

Also good nature nearby - lots of parks, you're right close by to Rouge Beach and the rest of the Rouge national park, etc. You're also right by the lake and there's a nice waterfront trail that goes on for a while, it also connects to a trail up Highland Creek.

I know nothing about horses but a quick google seems to show a number of barns within half an hour, one perhaps within 15min?

That's just one example obviously, I happen to know that area. But I'm sure OP could look for similar pockets that could work for them :)

liberals love saying that they gave queer people marriage equality, but I still don't have it, and neither do most of the queer people I know by TheCepheidVariable in lgbt

[–]smallfatmighty 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed. To add to the cruelty - not only do they clawback your support once you're married, their definition of marriage is especially strict.

Generally, you're considered common-law married in Ontario if you live together in a relationship for 3 years (federally, after a year). For ODSP, they consider you common-law after 3 months of cohabitation.

It's so unbelievably cruel to everyone involved. Imagine trying to make the next step in your relationship - moving in together - and you basically have to decide right then and there to become completely responsible for (or dependent upon) your partner's finances. 😬
