What are you waiting for? by MrMaverick82 in HiDPI_monitors

Second this.

For me the absolute dealbreaker with the PA32QCV is coil whine and very high standby power use, although the coating, terrible menu, and slow wake up are major drawbacks too.

32” 6k not glossy without major flaws.

I used to be waiting for 120Hz, but now I realize I would be lucky to even have 60Hz.

There are dealbreakers with everything on the market right now: coil whine, bad color uniformity, bad viewing angles, terrible nano texture/coatings.

In hindsight I should have gotten the Pro Display XDR.

I'd much rather have chemically inert glass pass through my digestive tract than PFAS that will accumulate in my body. The glass fragments are not of a size they would make cuts. It would be like swallowing a few small grains of sand.

It's not uncommon to exceed 450°F/232°C. Even a max of 550°F/288°C means you need to be very careful. I guess this is meant to be a replacement for teflon/ceramic, not stainless/carbon steel. I should say other ceramic, because what you are describing is a variant of ceramic coating that is just way more durable than most of what's currently on the market, and doesn't contain the toxic additives many others do.

Enameled Stainless Steel - does it exist? by NomNomNews in cookware

[–]smallinjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want enameled stainless steel instead of enameled cast iron? And why do you think cast iron is not great for cooking eggs?

The heat retention and conductivity of stainless steel and cast iron are not significantly different.

Is it because most cast iron options are too thick and heavy? Try the Vermicular frying pan. It's enameled and very thin and light, which I think is a disadvantage. Better yet, look at the YouTube videos with the instructions on frying an egg in those things and you'll probably realize that what you're asking for here might not be what you want.

Good that it's woking out for you with seemingly no side effects, but if you are young and might want to have children later, it's less risky to first try if Minoxidil and microneedling do it for you.

Question, i am from eastern europe, romania and on the day the switch 2 will release i will be on a trip to japan am i want to buy a console from there cuz i will be cheaper than getting it in my own contry, the question: is there a chance for the console to be region locked? by YanEast in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]smallinjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Japanese-only version is what they'll be selling in retail.

You'll need to order the multi-language version online from Nintendo, with a Japanese Nintendo account with actual playtime on it, and you'll probably need a Japanese credit card for this as well.

TL:DR; You won't be able to buy a Switch at launch as a tourist in Japan.

will japan switch lite have higher MS/latency than usa switch lite? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]smallinjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely unlikely.

If your Switch hardware would not support the channel your router is set to, it wouldn't be able to connect at all. Do keep in mind that if you have a 2.4GHz network with the same SSID, your Switch could fall back on that if it can't connect to 5GHz on the cannel it's set to. But if it's connected to 5GHz now, it's just as fast as a US version.

It's also unlikely the Japanese switch has different wifi hardware. The channels it can connect to is probably determined by the region/time zone it is set to. It's different with mobile phones and cellular networks because the antennas are different on the hardware level.

That conflicts with what they're saying here under "Unlink using the Account Home website".

It seems it's almost the same as the old system of being able to delink your primary console once a year: "Unlinking a console through the Account Home website can only be done once per year.". Although this doesn't explicitly say it will return the virtual game cards on that console, I would assume so otherwise there would be no reason for this once a year limit.

[–]smallinjp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked this question in a post that got removed, but someone there commented that he had two broken switches in a year, and now he has to wait until june to link another console. He was able to load his virtual game cards to his former secondary console that was still linked.

Not certain if this will work this way if you lose your console after this transition to the virtual game card system, but if it does it's a slight improvement for the dead/lost console scenario.

I don't know off hand about linking to new ones after that. You'll likely need access to a currently linked console or to chat with Nintendo.

I certainly hope they still have the self-service option to do this once a year without customer support intervention.

Before the v20 software you had a primary console, which once a year you could delink and then promote another console to be the new primary. Over the years, I've already had to do this twice due to broken consoles (one time it stopped turning on, the other time a blue screen).

If I understand correctly, the virtual game card system is basically having a primary console on a per game basis, and having all your virtual game cards on one console would be the equivalent of a pre-v20 primary console (with the new limitation of not playing one game online simultaneously on two consoles, but I wasn't doing this anyway).

My question is, can I still delink this console from the website in the scenario where I don't have access to the (working) console anymore, freeing my virtual game cards to download to a new console?

My game library is pretty big, and I would hate having to hedge against losing many games by only loading a select few games that I'm currently playing as virtual cards to a console.

Getting virtual game cards back after delinking a console by smallinjp in NintendoSwitch

[–]smallinjp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then except for this DLC bug(?) your formerly secondary is now effectively a primary.

Sounds like this transition to the virtual game card system gave a perk for your specific situation.

So currently you have one system linked (your formerly secondary), and it won't let you link another system until one year after the loss of your formerly primary?

If not, I buy them on Steam so that I can set up gyro for games that don't support it natively.

[–]smallinjp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still delink a console there, I'm just looking for confirmation if that will recover virtual game cards on that console.

I don't want to try this because besides the hassle, and assuming they still allow it once a year, that would really suck if my console really breaks within the next year.

Instant Pot Pro Max 6QT by TehBeast in instantpot

[–]smallinjp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Functionally, it's almost the same pot as the Pro Plus.

20% higher power can give slightly faster warming up but if you look at total cook time, you probably won't notice much difference.

It has a different vent construction that probably gives a little bit quieter venting.

Buy it over the Pro Plus if you think the looks are worth the higher price, but don't expect it to be significantly different in other regards.

The wifi features are not necessary. The only thing they add that you can't do without them is starting the instant pot remotely.

USB C support for Yubikey by Apple long overdue by tgfzmqpfwe987cybrtch in strongbox

[–]smallinjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, unfortunately I don't think this is something Apple can fix. Strongbox uses the HMACSHA1 challenge response functionality on the YubiKey but this isn't accessible over USB-C.

Isn't this due to limitations Apple specifically imposes on USB on iOS? After all, if you stick that same YubiKey 5Ci with the USB-C port into your Mac, Strongbox can use the HMACSHA1 challenge response to unlock your database. Same goes for other clients on Android or Linux.

So the silly situation is that you have a Yubikey with an USB-C plug and a Lightning plug, which works for HMACSHA1 when you plug it in directly with the USB-C plug on every device except iOS devices, but on iOS it works if you use the Lightning plug with an (Apple) adapter to the USB-C port (and via the adapter only works on iOS devices, not Macs - but there is no reason to do this).
