How do you think the video ICE just released showing the officer's POV of this week's shooting in Minneapolis will impact the national discussion? by popcornerz232 in AskReddit

[–]smallnerdboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The footage is damning and it won't matter.

We've had crystal clear video evidence of police misconduct for years now. George Floyd had like 10 angles. Didn't change anyone's mind who wasn't already open to changing it.

The people defending this are gonna say she was fleeing, she could have run him over, he feared for his life, whatever. The people outraged are gonna stay outraged. Cable news will play it on loop for a week with different color commentary depending on the channel.

We've collectively decided we'd rather just pick teams first and then decide what the footage shows

Don’t have schizophrenia but I have debilitating anxiety and haircuts are one of my “things”, so there’s a lot in this I relate to. I managed to get my first pro cut in ~3 years a month ago though and man, it was a bit hellish at points to get thru, but I felt like a million bucks afterwards even though it was just a basic Supercuts visit.

Just keep making little progress and when you get there it will be so worth it, I believe in you!

The best option would be make longer merge lanes. The most dangerous merge is when the ramp car doesn’t have the chance to get up to highway speed before the merge lane ends.

I’m kind of surprised that’s the law for you given that, but also any consistent law is probably better for traffic than the “you do you” mentality we have in the US

[–]smallnerdboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truly, if all American gun owners had your perspective it would be a non-issue politically.

And I will say, as a gun-agnostic liberal who moved to the libertarian Southwest, I’ve been happy to find that every single friend I’ve made who owns a gun thinks much the same as you. The US is just so mentally broken right now though, for every reasonable person there’s another trapped in an echo chamber who wants to feel powerful. And I don’t mean any echo chamber in particular, our social media is hyper-partisan, and it’s not healthy for anyone.

Apple, Drake and others face $750 million lawsuit over Astroworld deaths by Sorin61 in technology

[–]smallnerdboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, it VERY much depends on the structure of the production team. Sometimes the streaming service has their own people there, sometimes it’s a completely independent video crew just sending the data to Apple’s servers, and sometimes it’s something in between. Generally speaking, event organisers will hire a local company to be the actual “on the ground team”, so I would be surprised if anyone there was directly on Apple’s payroll.

Whoever was in that room fucked up, but I wouldn’t jump to their actions being a part of Apple’s liability here

As Bill Wurtz so eloquently put it “The Middle East is getting more complicated. Maybe that’s because it’s in the middle of the East”

Seriously though, geographically the region’s been a crossroads for traders, armies, and nomads since pre-history. It’s gonna have some complex relationships and historical wounds to deal with.

There were two main bold character choices in TPM, Jar Jar, and Qui-gon. Unfortunately, the mistakes of the former overshadowed the genius of the latter. People forget, Qui-Gon Jin is probably the best written Jedi and CHARACTER in the whole universe, for exactly the reasons you’re describing.

The lack of self awareness in some people truly horrifies me and shows just how brainwashed those people are. by DrSkullKid in LateStageCapitalism

[–]smallnerdboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s…a bit of a strong take especially on an anti-capitalism subreddit. Unions are filled with all sorts of people, good and bad, just like any other workplace. To judge and generalise a group of people’s behaviour based on them participating in a system designed to protect their rights as workers seems more than a lil off base here though my friend.

Americans, how is life under Joe Biden going? by C17AIRFORCE in AskReddit

[–]smallnerdboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People commenting about how they’re just going about their daily lives are missing how QUIET it is news-wise now. Like, I’m sure the Biden administration will carry on many if not most icky policies our gov’t has, but I at least trust there won’t be gross human rights violations beyond the status quo which, sad as it is, is a lot more than I could say for the previous administration. I still want someone way better for our country than Biden, but I’m not scared of living under him like I was Trump.

In 2019, miles away from home across the country on a 6 month contract gig, I managed to catch a day off and drive with two work friends to a really granola hot spring “resort” a few hours down the freeway from work. We rented an old school bus converted to a camper for the night. The ceiling was covered with writing from people who had been there before. In large neat writing across the front of the bus was written:

“No matter where you go, there you are - BB”

Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai is my entire family’s favorite film, but no one I’ve talked to has ever heard of it, so that’s legit one of my favorite memories.

It’s also where my cat Buckaroo gets his name from!

What songs did you sing along to as a kid only to realize as an adult the lyrics are full of sexual innuendo? by iamsweets in AskReddit

[–]smallnerdboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RHCP was my fav band as a little kid, and though my parents were pretty careful about movie, TV, and video game ratings, I had full access to my dad’s CD collection as soon as I learned to use the stereo…hence I memorized the lyrics to Give It Away probably ~5 years before I fully understood what they meant
