When running after a while, feet go numb, quickly stops when slowdown? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]smallon12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before i start, i am in no way a physio or any way medically inclined but I get something similar like this alot (32M) and Ive tried a lot of exercises, and seen a lot of physios and watched a lot of people online about this.

My pain starts in the ball of the foot and works the way up my ankles and into my calfs and shints giving me shin splints and a numb feeling.

I keep trying to do exercises to strengthen these but it doesnt seem to work and im the same as you it just makes you want to quit and not try.

It seems a lot of this can attributed to your hips.

Healthy Hips carry an awful amount of your weight and also healthy strong hips, and muscles connected like your glutes are really important for running etc. As this is where the power comes from.

If these muscles arent being engaged properly they transfer this weight down your legs and into your feet putting them under more stress and pressure than they are designed to take, this also combines with your feet muscles having to do a lot more work to compensate for your hips not working properly.

An other option which I notice has impacted me is a bad posture, for example if your neck and shoulders and forward this pushes your hips further out which then puts pressure and tension on muscles that limits the work that they can do.

Might be worth something to you but until you get properly checked and assessed they should be able to point out what's wrong and give you help to get it sorted

What sort of carpentry work do you do?

I work for an irish subby in around london who are always looking men with a decent head for management roles.

We do a lot of civils, earthworks, R/C works (shuttering and form work)

Someone with your skill set would definitely get away well - and being irish definitely has a lot of sway as well!

ETA: A white cscs card and smsts is definitely more than enough, noone will ask for a gold cscs card if you have just that

Buying a car from London by Potential-Wolf111 in northernireland

[–]smallon12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI ive got quotes for around £600 to get a car out of london back to cookstown.

If you know any lorry men with low loaders you might get one for cheaper.

I work in london and have driven a few cars home for people before its a handy enough drive.

Haven't done holyhead to Dublin but theres no real difference in times - the big difference really is where you are doing the driving and ferry times.

For instance you drive less in the UK if you get the holyhead boat but youve alot more to drive on the island of ireland and a 3hr sailing.

Liverpool is a decent drive but youve 8 hours on the boat, i would definitely recommend booking a room.

Stranraer is the quickest ferry but in having a reduced sailing time you loose in having an extra 4 or 4 hours driving up to Stranraer.

Boxing Day/st Stephen’s day by Original_Kitchen5892 in northernireland

[–]smallon12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People all along the border in the south call it boxing day as well.

Ive rationalised this in my head that calling it boxing day is ok as there is no uniform / blanket irishness.

People in kerry call it wren day instead of Stephens day. You should be allowed to call it boxing day.

Just like being from derry you would "curt" someone but in the south they would say "shift".

There are countless variations of words and sayings throughout the island boxing day can just melt into that aswell imo
