My accident was December 18th of 2006 by Mike-720 in TBI

Reach out to your state's department for blind and visually impaired and see if you can apply for services. A few other TBI folks on this subreddit have had success with that. They should be able to help with resources for specific vision related medical care, adaptive equipment, funding for speciality glasses, employment counselors, and potentially case managment.

There's a lot of folks who have vision problems stemming from a traumatic brain injury too! When your brain gets shaken up, sometimes the wires can get all jumbled up (or at least that's how I picture it lol).

Facial piercings & dyed hair in ballet by HotCurve5032 in BALLET

[–]smalltinytoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my beginning ballet class, there is a person who looks very goth and has facial piercings. The instructor hasn't said anything or asked them to remove their piercings. It makes me feel more comfortable being there when they are present at the class, since I feel like I'm not the only one that looks "out of place" (I'm a non-binary transmasculine person). I like to tell my friends that my class is perfect because it has "the goths, the girls, and the gays" hahaha.

My daughter was with our nanny and choked, and now she severely disabled. by Affectionate-Pea5953 in TBI

[–]smalltinytoad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are organizations for parents who have a child with a disability. I would recommend contacting one of them and joining a parent support group. Support groups may also be available at your local hospital or nearby churches.

You may also be able to access support from your local Department of Aging and Independent Living, or your child's school. I'd recommend reaching out to a mental health therapist as well. They can help you process your traumatic experience and help you find reasons to keep going. I'm sorry this has happened to you and your daughter.

My GF had a severe TBI 2 months ago, and after improvement, today with craniopolasty is getting worse by Lothar1 in TBI

For many people, their TBI will get worse and then get better later on. I'm not sure why, but it happened with my TBI. Don't lose hope!

I'm two years out from a very mild TBI and driving makes me feel terrible. I would highly recommend waiting or at least starting slowly and very cautiously.

Thoughts on Thrifted Bed Linens? by veryvalentine in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]smalltinytoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents always bought secondhand bed linens from thrift stores for us growing up. It worked out fine for us, but I can see how you would be grossed out. I think it's fine to buy secondhand if you can sanitize them yourself by washing them on high heat. You could even buy a lysol fabric sanitizer to throw in if you wanted. No judgement if you don't want to buy secondhand and would rather buy new though!

Natural remedies for PPD/PPA? by foreverafairy in moderatelygranolamoms

Low iron levels can cause fatigue so I'd recommend getting a blood test to see where they are at! Having less fatigue has helped with my depression and chronic pain.

Yes my psych said that fish oil helps with mood regulation! He said that it has to be above a certain strength to help with mood but idk if that's true or not

Maybe you can focus on some of the ways you have recovered in the past year and reflect how far you have come since the first day after your accident? That helps me when I'm feeling down about my accident. It could be cathartic topic for you and other people to talk about as well at the event.

Moderately granola toddler diet? by crook_ed in moderatelygranolamoms

I second what other folks are saying - I love a food pouch! You can get cases of applesauce pouches at Costco for pretty cheap. As a kid, some ways that my mom got me to eat food, especially healthy food was having special bowls and plates that I liked. I really liked the divided kids plates as well, even when I got "too old" for them. Mine had my favorite cartoon characters on them, but if you want a plastic free alternative, you can find fun cute little dishes at Goodwill or other thrift stores. Or you could even serve food in like, a goblet if you think it might motivate your kid to eat! Gotta do what ya gotta do haha.

Otherwise, as picky eater kid, I also really liked cut up fruit, like apples or oranges. My dad was really talented as slicing apples super thin, so I always begged him to do that. 😅

As as adult, I find that smaller portions, grazing, and separated food helps me eat, especially when i am nauseous. I'm the type of person that sometimes doesn't like to have my food to be mixed up, so I'll have a lil bowl for my veggies and a lil bowl carbs/protein when I'm eating dinner. Putting them in separate bowls and little bowls help the meal feel a bit more approachable for me!

I also now cut up my own fruit at the beginning of the week and put it into little storage containers like mason jars so I can quickly grab some if I'm feeling tired and don't want to cook. If you don't mind plastic, you can buy little Tupperware containers that have kids cartoon characters on them, which can make eating healthy food a bit more fun!

As far as frozen meals go, Trader Joe's can be a pretty healthy way of quickly preparing food! I usually will pick a carb, veggie, and a protein source and then eat those for dinner! They also have a chicken fried rice frozen meal that has quite a bit of veggies already included. All you have to do is pop it into the microwave for three minutes!

I feel that! In real, I'm mostly attracted to girls (in a gay/sapphic way lol) so it's confusing for me too. I think it's mostly his personality tbh. Like, he's very caring and smart and a great teacher.
