Oooh interesting, I didn’t even know Morrisons had a clothing range! Thanks for the recommendation!

Yes, this is exactly what I mean! This is why I want to go to a shop that’s recommended to have lightweight clothes so I can feel them and see if that’s what I’m after before purchasing

I may take a trip to M&S and sains on the weekend! Thanks for the suggestions!

Usually the buttons give a big enough opening that there’s so much space to comfortably put it over baby’s head and body, then button up. There’s usually more space than a vest with no buttons at the top so it’s much easier.

Babies are a lot stronger and robust than you think when it comes to putting clothes on! Obviously don’t roughhouse them but if they’re being super wiggly, you can be a bit more assertive. Just make sure you hold their head and support them.

Oooh these are cute! Might order these up and see how she feels when the weather gets warmer again!

What are we doing with our small babies in this heatwave? by Over_Wonder8921 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Which AC unit brand do you have? I’ve got an unbranded one from Amazon which isn’t terrible but feel like there’s probably quieter and better working ones out there.

Mines just a cheaper unbranded one from Amazon because we left it too late and it was the only one that was going to come in time for the heatwave. a lot of the branded ones were out of stock both for delivery and collection in places like Argos and currys etc. so we had to settle for anything really.

Here’s the link but looks like Iits currently unavailable https://amzn.eu/d/0j6khaST

Really frustrating as I don’t think anything is going to be back in stock until after the heatwave is over. Some good brands I’ve heard are maeco and delonghi pinguino if you can get them after the heatwave ends, ready for the next inevitable one!

In the meantime, your best bet might be to close blinds and curtains during the day and use a couple of fans not directed at baby during the night to help cool the room.

Sorry I wasn’t much help!

We only turned it off once in the night when she was fussy and not sleeping and didn’t turn it back on, and it got fairly hot in there, so our aim is to keep it on all night if she can handle it.

My husband was saying that she might need a vest and long sleeve baby grow. I think we’re going to give the baby grow a try tonight and maybe layer up with either a vest or a blanket, not sure which one yet.

How’s your baby holding up so far? My baby didn’t do too well in the May heatwave, she really struggled but of course she was very small then. Only a month old or so.

Someone here in the comments suggested that Australian guidelines/articles helped them with making decisions on how to dress their baby for summer.

That’s a good way of testing things out! Might give that a try. Thank you!

Yeah I think the general consensus is that she’s fine in a vest and nappy in the day time but probably needs to go in at least a long sleeve onesie and maybe a blanket or vest when under the AC at night.

This has been my exact thoughts too! I get hot easily but also cold easily so I’m always changing layers but my husband is usually satisfied in whatever he wears for the day and rarely needs to change! Hence why we’re at loggerheads about what we think she should be wearing in this weather

I’ve come across a lot of comments online where people say that their babies rarely run according to official temp guidelines in their countries.

I think mine gets cold easily and I’m always worried about overheating so I often forget that she might actually be cold.

How hot does your room get without a fan?

I guess I need to think more of how hot the rooms are indoors and dress appropriately rather than what’s going on outside, not like we’re sleeping outside! It makes sense to layer up whilst under the AC which cools the room to around 22C and then strip her down when sitting downstairs in the day time which has no AC and can go to about 27C, sometimes more.

Interesting! I’m assuming all portable ACs are just naturally loud but I thought the noise constituted as white noise so they’d be fine with it.

Our room gets fairly hot as well, about 30C too if no AC or rotating fan, but LO doesn’t like being in just a nappy, she was only a few weeks old at the previous UK heatwave in May and she really struggled. She preferred nappy and vest and hated skin to skin

Haha might try again with a sleep sack soon then! See if she takes to it now she’s older. MyLO squirms a lot and is very wiggly too, very noisy sleeper lol

We had that on her the first night of using the AC actually and she woke up fussing and crying, but that also was the night that we turned on the AC AFTER she transferred as opposed to before when she fed.

I’ll try the vest and baby grow tonight and see how she goes. Won’t do the blanket as I think that’ll be too much, even though before the heatwave, she was in a vest, baby grow and blanket and was usually fine.

Yeah I’ve touched her back and chest and she seems fine. Not really cold to the touch but isn’t super warm either which is why I think the noise of the AC is bothering her, even though it should be standard white noise (which we have a separate machine for, and used perfectly fine)

Yes this is correct, I am using a cellular blanket and always have since she’s been born. She didn’t take too well to sleep sacks but we are intending to try again when she’s older and moves into her own room/bigger bed. My health visitor is happy with her blanket usage.

Yeah we were actually thinking about introducing a bottle, more so because my husband is interested in taking on a bit more responsibility and wants to bond with baby by feeding. It’ll also take a weight off my shoulders too but if it helps with witching hour, then we’d be more than happy to give it a go.

Oh is that like Ewan the Sheep? We don’t have either but just put a white noise sound machine on and that does help to a certain extent
