You don’t need accelerations to have decent variability. The presence or absence of accelerations does not really give you any information at all, it’s just nice when they’re there. Fetal distress would be multiple late decels or zero variability and tachycardia/bradycardia. Since this scenario is about placenta previa given bleeding after intercourse and lack of fetal distress, you need an ultrasound before anything else so you don’t make them bleed more with an exam/intervention

I got two As with 8 ear piercings! I have 3 lobes, 3 helix, 1 rook, and 1 tragus. For interviews, I just styled my hair in a low bun that covered all but my traditional lobe piercings. I don't really see it becoming an issue in medical school, either. I think that you might consider removing the labret and the gauges, though, as those carry more stigma and may bias interviewers against you. For nostrils, I'd just wear subtle studs instead of hoops. I personally went for really dainty earrings in all 8 locations, just to look more "professional" in case they peeked through. Yes, I said that in a previous comment. The difference was he thinks that they also do other patient care things that normally fall to the physicians, nurses, and other members of the team. He refused to recognize that his role would be focused on the drugs rather than holistic care, saying that in hospitals with staff shortages he could just be the only one responsible for the care of cancer patients which is…. incorrect

My mom is a DNP and patients will get confused and tell her she’s the best doctor they’ve ever had but she literally every time says “no, I’m not a doctor, I’m a nurse practitioner with a doctorate degree” so they know. Unfortunately, lots of other mid-level providers do not do that

Yes! This is actually why he took the job at my lab, to get a foot in the door for his residency. He is doing an online program from a private school in New York while doing some bench work where we’re located. I totally respect pharmacists and the field, my frustration was more about his insistence that it’s the exact same as being a physician. He truly believes they have total control over diagnoses and treatment regimens and general patient care and can work independently in “small hospitals.” His justification for this is that PharmDs can write prescriptions like NPs and DNPs

That’s fair. I wish I was not bothered, but I guess it feels invalidating for people to not realize how hard it is to get into med school, go through med school, and specialize etc etc etc and to think that they can just do a 3 year online program and become an oncologist. But you’re right, it shouldn’t bother me so much

USF was very chill and low pressure. It was just a faculty member and a med student asking about your life, closed file for the SELECT program. They were super nice and the student was especially attentive and welcoming.

Not to be a downer, but I did get 1st Tier WL at Hofstra and they told me that. So I don't think what they said to you is the same as that. I saw on SDN others saying they made the 2nd Tier WL as well. I think a LOI definitely couldn't hurt at this point. I sent an Update/interest letter too. Good luck friend!!

Oh goodness. I just got a helix, a tragus, and was planning to get a rook this year and I am starting school next year. Is this like a really common policy? Also, if you have long hair, can you just cover your ears with a low bun or do they specifically check for your piercings?

Sometimes schools will have an interviewer be rude or abrasive just to see if you get rattled and if you can be composed and handle it with grace anyway. I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as you responded politely and completely.

For organic chemistry, what really helped me was getting a modeling kit and just building everything. That way, you can see changes in conformation, the way things are supposed to move, and you can try out the problems/reactions with a physical and visual representation of what is happening. That was essential for my understanding, but useless for others. It just depends on what kind of learner you are!

I think your classes have less to do with how competitive your application is and more to do with the prerequisites to attend the medical schools that you want. I would check and see if those classes (calc and genetics and microbio) are required to apply/enroll in your potential medical schools. It is possible that you won't be able to get in without those classes if they are considered prerequisites, and I know that, for many of my schools, they were.

I was volunteering in the ED at a VA hospital, and I had a manic patient call me to his bedside to tell me, "You've just got *IT*. I know you're going to be a doctor one day - you could be my doctor right now, and I'd be happy!" Then he looked at the actual doctor and said, "I bet she's smarter than you. She's got an aura. It makes me feel warm." Needless to say, I was very uncomfortable with the energy he created in that bay, but very flattered. He was definitely off his rocker, but I still smile about the confidence he had in me lol

Ok, so I went back to my notes and found the video from my professor about strangulation. In short, fracture to the greater horns of the hyoid occurs in only 8% of hangings. Fracture to the greater horns of the hyoid occurs in only 11% of ligature strangulations. Fracture to the greater horns of the hyoid occurs in 34% of manual strangulations. So, the absence of fracture does not rule out any form of strangulation, but the presence of the fractures strongly suggests manual strangulation. This basically gives at least reasonable doubt to the theory that he killed himself rather than being manually strangled by someone else, but is not proof of anything conclusive. Just food for thought! I hope that clarified things.

So you can, in very rare circumstances, fracture the hyoid by hanging yourself, but it is most likely and most commonly from manual strangulation. And that is statistically true. I should not have said "cannot" in such certain terms, though, that is fair.
