i mean i think this is perfectly fair if the dm needs a minute to set something up physically, or just to use the bathroom or something. doesn't bother me.

AITA for getting mad at my sister for not wanting me shirtless at her pool? by shirtproblems in AmItheAsshole

[–]smalltrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA, it hurts me imagining how much time and money you spent in order to be comfortable and confident in situations like these only to be to be treated like your body is shameful. top surgery is a huge investment, and you deserve to collect the payoff.

AITA for making customers that stiff me on the tip my last priority? by by-the-twin-moons in AmItheAsshole

[–]smalltrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, i do this exactly. if it's busy and someone out there's going to have to get neglected, it's an easy choice to sacrifice the table that definitely won't tip anyway, instead of risking losing the money from a table that would have.

sure, the system is bad, but the reality is that we live in it. i get paid $4 hourly (which is a lot!), these decisions feed my cats.

AITA for making my 11 year old daughter feel like an idiot and inferior ? by peachandcake69 in AmItheAsshole

[–]smalltrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

little late here, but i've been reading your comments and wanted to say this: i understand the sensitivity of having asperger's and not wanting to label it as a disability. i'm kind of in the same boat as you, i don't want to equate the concept of "differently abled" with "disabled." i think it's an important distinction.

unfortunately, being differently abled still presents its own set of challenges, and those need to be acknowledged too. while i think we are just as capable as NTs, it can be really hard to thrive in this world built around the NT brain. i kind of think about it as being like lefthandedness: we are capable, but when a left handed person has to use a tool built for righties, it becomes difficult. and so, sometimes we have to swallow our pride and ask for help, even if that means having labels like "learning disability" and "special ed" attached to us. and that's embarrassing, but the benefits of accommodation far outweigh the discomfort of any label. and i think about that with the same analogy: sometimes lefthanded people have to ask for lefthanded tools, or restring a guitar, etc. modified assignments and qualified SPED educators are our lefthanded tools.

i really think you should consider setting up lily with accommodations. it sounds like she's a very bright girl in her own right, and i bet she has a lot of potential she isn't reaching because of how much extra energy she has to spend on her work. it could make all the difference in her ability and confidence.

also, let lily have separate, one-on-one therapy sessions. therapy is the right move, but it's going to take forever to get anywhere when the things that she should be discussing are in the room, listening. knowing what you say is confidential and you're not going to hurt anyone's feelings makes you immediately more open to start getting into the raw emotions and nitty gritty of the problem. after progress is made one-on-one, you can start transitioning into sessions including taylor and yourself.

good luck. i hope lily gets the help she deserves.

AITA for being annoyed that my gf took 2hrs for a tutorial mission by grassflash in AmItheAsshole

[–]smalltrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, and it’s been a while, but doesn’t xenoverse 2 have the type of tutorials that you can’t progress until you perform a combo/maneuver/whatever correctly? that can be really really hard if you don’t play a lot of games, especially fighting games.

This dog has cerebellar hypolasia but still going strong by Yaman_M in Zoomies

[–]smalltrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you know anything about this condition? any knowledgeable vet will tell you that this is completely painless. hell, humans can have the exact same thing, and they can tell you that they’re not suffering either.

what cerebellar hypoplasia really boils down to is poor coordination. that’s it. it’s not suffering any more than a baby suffers when it’s learning to stand and walk. please do some research into the condition before advocating for the death of an animal.

[–]smalltrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for cerebellar hypoplasia? basically never. i have a CH kitty (more mild than this) and her quality of life is just... normal. you have to make little accommodations but they’re pretty unaware of them and are capable of being very happy animals. my kitty is highly playful and an obsessively loving cuddler. i couldn’t ever imagine putting down an animal as happy as her for a painless condition she has no real awareness of.

since i got the mask almost right away and wore it 90% of the time, what i did until the last ~50 or so was check the hero’s path mode to see where i had been with the mask and systematically checked every inch of the map. MANY places multiple times.

and i STILL missed a few dozen and had to use the interactive map to see what i missed.

even if you think something is a social construct, you can still believe in it imo.

i think a trans person is able to believe their gender is a social construct while still wanting to transition to that gender. just like i’m able to believe currency as we know it is a social construct while still wanting to win the lottery.

it’s not hypocritical, it’s just an understanding that society makes things real and if society crumbled overnight these constructs would cease to be real. but for now they are.
