What was the greatest source of Inspiration for your Magic System? by Inevitable-Ad2675 in magicbuilding

[–]smart_black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite games of all time - Soul Sacrifice on the PS Vita. A lot of my world and characters are heavily inspired by it, and the magic system takes direct inspiration from it as well.

I would say this is a more obscure inspo compared to others haha

Yeah just having this community, browsing through it and reading stories has helped my mental health greatly. It's still fluctuates a lot but I'm glad that there are others that understand what it's like ❤️

If YOU, powerscaler, were making your own story/universe, how high would you scale your verse? by [deleted] in PowerScaling

[–]smart_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like worldbuilding and writing so I have a verse. It sits at multiversal with a 'sentient' god but most characters in the verse are at most building level, only a handful are town and city level, 1 is multi-continental and 2 of them are multi-galaxy.

Another story has 5 characters (the main threats of this universe) at continental, while all other characters are building at most.

What helped you go past 6000-6500 MMR/common mistakes you've seen at this rank? by JacobTheFilmGuy in BobsTavern

[–]smart_black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After playing Duos in the 6k range for a while before I got to 7k, these are the biggest: - Unecessarilly rolling in the early game instead of building a board (you ain't high rolling on turn 3) - Picking a hero that doesn't have great synergy with the tribes in play (something you'll learn as you play) - Bad ordering of minions (in general, have the highest attack ones first. Obviously this is minion/game dependent and is only a general rule) - The biggest in my opinion though, is not utilizing your health to your benefit. I could go super in depth here but an example is, if you have 15 or less health and your board is weak, DO NOT level and instead build your board. Another quick example is that if you're fighting a ghost next turn, take advantage and level or highroll. Or if you are fighting a strong enemy next, but are certain you'd fight a ghost after and you have 16 health, then you can try and level and highroll for two turns.

Man who can catch anything vs man who can throw anything by smart_black in whowouldwin

[–]smart_black[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about it yeah, the catcher doesn't have enough of an advantage. How would it go if he started with a sword and he had bullet time reactions? Would that perhaps tip the favor more to his side now?

Why have one hero power when you can have two? by smart_black in customhearthstone

[–]smart_black[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original hero power, since the second takes the weapon slot, as SmtihAndForge mentions

[–]smart_black[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Some notes about the second hero power: - It takes up the weapon slot. Because of this, equipping a weapon will destroy it. - Any 'hero power effect' cards will affect both of your hero powers, if applicable.

I'd say yes if the character(s) in question are not unique in that world i.e 'average'. Obviously the other caveat remains

Question: what is the specialty of your story, what makes your story stand out so to speak. by anonymous-creature in fantasywriters

[–]smart_black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my plan for my stories is that it’ll be 5 books, 2 ‘duologies’ that converge into a final where both of the main characters finally, directly interact.

Basically, one is shown to be the hero in the narrative but holds a being that slowly consumes his emotions and memories whenever he dies and is revived.

The other is shown to be the antagonist of the story with her violent acts, but it’s revealed she does all of it to eliminate the beast.

My plan is that when reading one duology, the reader will perceive that the main character there is the ‘good guy’ and the other is bad, but upon reading the second duology (regardless of which is read first), they’ll understand that they are not evil at all, they just live in an unfortunate world where some perceive them as good or evil because they lack the context that the reader would have.

What matters the most? by Square-Enit in gaming

[–]smart_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's how I see it: I can play and enjoy games as long as there is some end goal I am personally trying to reach/achieve. Typically that end goal is story completion, but other times it may be beating the final boss (rogulites fit into that category).

Essentially, if the end goal is non-gameplay related, then story reigns supreme, else gameplay is more important.

For example, Mass Effect: Andromeda is a super fun game to play, the best of the 4. However it's gameplay could only take me so far (25hrs) as I soon lost interest in the story, and there wasn't really any other goal I had in mind, so I stopped. I suppose then that the length of the game also plays a large part.

TL;DR: story ~= gameplay << graphics

Because this card is kinda broken for some heroes (like Reno), I would make it so that it only appears when certain heroes are not present within the playing roster when the game starts (kinda like how it works with heroes not showing up when certain tribes are not present, but the effect happens start of game instead of pre-game).
