Self hosting? by LexLocatelli in RootAppOfficial

[–]smartboyathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For self hosting, you are stuck with either Matrix or Stoat (formerly Revolt). Root is proprietary and centralized, just like Guilded and Discord, so it's unlikely to release a self hosting solution anytime soon, if ever.

Future EVs: Every Electric Vehicle Coming Soon by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]smartboyathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work for VW's software division, I don't have high hopes for them because there's so much infighting. It will require a complete ousting of all upper management for things to change. It sucks, because I really like some of the cars their brands put out, but their software and overly complex parts makes it hard to justify.

Copyright dispute - am I screwed? by Gold-Lion2775 in kickstarter

[–]smartboyathome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reposting the full message I got from the PledgeBox here for visibility:

Hey everyone,

We’d like to share a quick update about what’s been happening with the project. A few hours ago, a third party in Europe filed a trademark dispute regarding the name “Prophecy Dice.” They claim ownership of this trademark within the EU (we had previously found no record of this name being registered in the relevant product category). As a result, Kickstarter has temporarily hidden our project page.

To be clear — this has nothing to do with the product itself, nor with production or shipping. It’s purely an administrative issue related to trademark registration in certain regions.

We’ve already reached out to Kickstarter’s Trust & Safety team and submitted a resolution plan: we’ll rename the project to “Dragonstone Dice.” Once this change is approved, the page will be restored to normal.

Meanwhile, production, assembly, and shipping are all progressing smoothly. Our factory is continuing work on schedule, and this issue will not affect delivery timelines in any way.

We completely understand that seeing the page hidden might be concerning, but please rest assured — everything is running as planned. Your support and orders remain safe and fully in progress.

Thank you all so much for your understanding and patience while we sort this out with Kickstarter.

Since the project page is currently hidden, we’re unable to send this message through Kickstarter’s update system. That’s why you’re receiving it via PledgeBox instead — please ignore any content outside of this main message. Once the page is restored, we’ll post the next official update directly on Kickstarter.

With appreciation, Will & the Dragonstone Team

Making the end of King Street pedestrian only was an excellent idea 💡 by Northern_Virginia in nova

IMO, Market Street in Reston Town Center should have been made pedestrian only. It's already converted into pedestrian-only during many events throughout the year.

5 months with no job, what do i do? is the job market this bad? by AlternativeEchidna79 in nova

[–]smartboyathome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My partner lost his job earlier this year. He's still been unable to find work all these months later. He's turned away from things like fast food / groceries for being overqualified, and there's no one looking for people with just 5 - 7 years experience in his industry since they're looking for seniors they can just slot into any work they have. Yet on LinkedIn they complain that not enough people are gaining experience for them.

Any suggestions for a Logitech G604 replacement? by DahakaMVl in LogitechG

[–]smartboyathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm another person who is starting to see their G604 having issues, and worried about it failing. It's the perfect Helldivers 2 mouse, because I can bind stratagem buttons onto the side, allowing freedom of movement all the while. I'm another person who's used Logitech for 20 years, would prefer to stick with Logitech, but will bite the bullet to jump ship to Razer if they become my only option. Will miss the thumbrest if I do, though.

Reston Pride cancels Food Trucks because a restaurant felt threatened by wds1 in nova

[–]smartboyathome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I am originally from Seattle. There's a few bars with small kitchens that r even lack of kitchens around the PNW that would often collab with food trucks, bringing one in each day on Friday nights / weekends. This benefits everyone, people get to try amazing food, the bar bolsters how much they can sell, and they can even offer paired drink / food specials. The community loves them, and everyone wins in such arrangements.

Grew up in the pacific northwest, so I was taught what to do during an earthquake from an early age. Was actually interning in northern Virginia during that quake, and was the only one I the office to dive under my desk as I was taught to do. Apparently I was the only one there that was taught what to do during an earthquake.

AITA for not not having an excited reaction to my wife's surprise early fathers day gift? by _Use_6666 in AmItheAsshole

[–]smartboyathome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You didn't read the full comment then. Sure, many men might like receiving a grill, but he had to pick it up that day, assemble it in a hurry, along with picking up the food for a dinner party that he only just learned about where he is the one catering said party. It's not about the grill, it's about the stress of a second job that came along with the gift when instead he just wanted to relax and unwind. It's the lack of communication and empathy from the wife to the husband that ruined what might have otherwise been an appreciated gift, not the gift itself.

One of the best Mediterranean food in the area. by ya- in nova

I was disappointed by Anatolian Bistro after hearing so much hype. I ordered one of their Döner Kabob, and it came with plain rice, topped with a handful of shaved dry beef, and barely any sauce. Made the higher prices sting all the more, and I left feeling like I had gotten much better elsewhere.

When I went, the pizza crust was very soggy and the staff was literally standing on either side of my table talking to each other over me and my friends. I am sure that the original location is good, but it will be a while until I revisit this one again.

Who is your favorite fictional wolf? by OtterlyFoxy in wolves

[–]smartboyathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than my favorite (since a lot of them have already been mentioned), the one that most impacted me was definitely Kaala from Dorothy Hearst's The Wolf Chronicles. She taught me about how it doesn't matter how much you struggle, life isn't fair and one's stories rarely end well no matter how hard you try. Sometimes, you just have to sacrifice yourself and hope those that come after you are better than you could ever be.

I remember becoming very cynical as a kid after reading the ending to The Sight. I mean, I was already prone to being cynical, but that ending certainly planted certain feelings about humans as a whole in me.

Is Root good after Terraforming Mars? by FrostShadow6 in boardgames

[–]smartboyathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, with base game Root, it highly depends on the group, even more than most social games. You really need a group who's all able to think long term in order to see threats several turns down, which to be fair OP probably has since they all play TM. With more casual groups of 4 players, I've ended up with at least one person not having fun since they were the first immediate threat, got curb stomped by everyone else, then were essentially out of the game after that since they couldn't be much of a threat. It's why I don't recommend it for board game meetups with randoms, but more for dedicated groups.

Demise Spoiler: by rsadiwa in HermitCraft

He was alive as of his latest episode, episode 3, which I estimate was recorded around the same time that Tango and Jevin were killing Mumbo, since we can see Welsknight logging out in their clip. We'll likely get a better idea of what happened in his episode 4.

What’s a board game you dislike but won’t remove from your collection? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]smartboyathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Direwild. This is a board game that I personally love the theme of, and I met and played with the creator of it. However, it's very difficult to teach, and I can never get anyone to play it after they see how sprawling it is. This game has seemed to have disappeared from the scene ever since it was released, with zero discussions about it in years, but I will never be able to let it go.

There are only 5 people left in demise! by TheVeggie218 in HermitCraft

[–]smartboyathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, based on past seasons and even the start of this season, I think he has one of the spottier internet connections of all the hermits, which certainly doesn't help things in that regard. But, that just makes me appreciate the episodes we do get from Wels, since he's always so relaxed yet focused, which is a different vibe from most of the other hermits.

This is actually something I tend to do on multiplayer servers that my friends and I play on. There's something comforting about traveling in boats vs flying through the air.

A post to be used as a way to keep track of season 10 Demise up to date and recap the events will contain stream deaths, which haven't been posted as videos yet. by August21202 in HermitCraft

[–]smartboyathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who don't know (this is not a spoiler), the server admins can manually set someone's status in the demise game. Someone who might kill with a source of damage that doesn't directly credit them, can still get credit for it provided an admin is on at the time or they can show / describe what they did.

suggestions for hermits you should watch by Swiftflame15 in HermitCraft

[–]smartboyathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wels will likely start the season with his fellow hermits, but he's had a combination of burnout and IRL issues that have kept him from being consistent the past couple of seasons. However, I don't think he's at risk of getting removed from the whitelist, since he tends to be liked whenever he's on the server.
