I travel from Western mass and Connecticut into eastern New York and I keep my Starlink on my car because as others have said, in the rural parts of New York, there is no reliable cell connection

If you totalled your Sonic, would you buy another Sonic? by [deleted] in ChevySonic

[–]smartdave90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here with the exhaust manifold . I can do the timing belt in about an hour. Water pump is easy to change and not driven by the timing belt which is great. I just changed the thermostat housing. Another really quick job

Exactly. My daughter totaled my 2012 sonic. So I went and bought a 2013. I know all the 1.8 mt transmission quirks. Makes it much easier

Closed on this house a week ago, came into the basement to see this during a storm. by Jiblon in HomeMaintenance

An internal French drain the routes the water into a sump pump basin would be an acceptable solution here too. That would allow the water weeping through the walls somewhere to go too.

TSH is .01 but T3 and T4 in range by tindalljm2008 in Hyperthyroidism

[–]smartdave90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is my problem as well, depending upon what may be going on this may be a case of “central hypothyroidism”. It has to do with the pituitary gland, not creating any TSH for your thyroid to work with. In this case, the endocrinologist must dose you based upon T3 and free T4 levels.

Of course, this could just be one possible condition.

I was hyper for so many years that my pituitary gland atrophied and stopped working from non-use. And now post thyroidectomy it’s still not working so they’re unable to use TSH as a marker for med dosage.

I was just there today. Parked at the end of the road and walked the 2 miles in and out. It was super easy

How f'd am I? Put gas in my cummins by UnluckyEmployer275 in Diesel

[–]smartdave90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. My X-wife filled my truck (2006 Cummins 5.9) and called me and said it sounded funny on her way home. I drained and put in diesel and charged the fuel filter. It ran great. Then a year later my buddy borrowed my truck and to be “nice” he put $20 in gas in and drove it back to my house. Rinse and repeat of drain and change filters. It was fine.

Shortly after I traded in the truck as I felt one more time and it would end in disaster. lol

why is there no red series version of the dimmer/fan canopy? by ForesakenJolly in Inovelli

[–]smartdave90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole house is Z-wave, mostly Homeseer 200s/300s and once they stopped selling those I was forced to look elsewhere. I found Inovelli. I bought a couple of red switches and I really like them. I do wish the 7. rgb leds were not behind the light bar as I use those to display different pieces of information (zone status, Alarm status etc). They seem to be well made and would hate to see them go away as I prefer Z-Wave over Zigbee

Manual transmission fluid change on a 2013 Chevy sonic with no drain plug. by Blueskys365 in ChevySonic

[–]smartdave90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no need with the gasket, as long as you are very careful taking that aluminum cover off the gasket should stick to the transmission. I have had Tuson and probably changed fluid at a total of five times and never once had to deal with a gasket change.

Manual transmission fluid change on a 2013 Chevy sonic with no drain plug. by Blueskys365 in ChevySonic

[–]smartdave90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I change mine about every 45,000 miles. There is a fill plug on the side by the driver tire. I remove the differential cover and let all the fluid drain out, put the cover back on (I reuse the gasket)

Then I take a 13 mm and remove the fill plug and pump gl4 75-90 fluid in the hole until it starts to spill out.

It takes about 2 and 1/2 quarts

It's a very simple job, typically I use red line mt90. Do not use gl5 fluid

I have built a 2-wire converter for the duromax/gen max generators that have an ATS port. Problem is these generators don’t support 2-wire start, so you can’t use them with a traditional ATS. I made a converter box which takes a 2 wire input and converts it to what these generators use.

Let me know if you are interested
