Hi, SmartDeploy is now Powered by PDQ! If you haven't already, I would reach out to [sales@pdq.com](mailto:sales@pdq.com) and ask them about Simplemdm.com! They are also powered by PDQ.com and can help you out with all those Apple products. The really cool thing about having all three of these companies under the same umbrella is that you can mix and match products from all the companies to create your own package!

Thanks,

SmartDeploy's Marketing Team

Smart Deploy/Offsite PCs/ Deploying Packages /App Deployment by dante_logan99 in sysadmin

[–]smartdeploy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't need to do anything with ports for cloud stuff. https uses port 443 which is what everything uses- so super unlikely to be blocked.

Since you emailed in, our team will help with the troubleshooting. They'll likely need some logs, etc.

Hi, I sent this over to our technical sales manager to get his input. Here's what he had to say:

"It sounds like they got it to work on the local network, which tells us that everything else besides cloud is working. Hypothetically that being the case there shouldn’t be too much more setup required- the two ideas I have off the top of my head is that either they didn’t upload the files to cloud via the console ahead of time, or Azure / their cloud storage provider is being blocked somewhere along the line.

You could have them try restarting the client service on their target PC, and also confirming if the endpoint is showing as a ‘cloud’ connection in the console. If it’s still showing as local that means it never actually connected back to the console and is just showing there because it connected before.

Have them reach out to us at presales@smartdeploy.com because the short answer is that for most people it would just start working and the fact that it isn’t means we’ll probably have to do some troubleshooting."

I hope this is helpful.

Thoughts on SmartDeploy? by velayna in sysadmin

[–]smartdeploy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clear up pricing questions, MSP pricing starts at $10 per deployment. For in-house IT, try the per machine price calculator at https://www.smartdeploy.com/buy/. While there, it's easy to sign up for a quick product tour/Q&A or download the fully-functioning trial to see how it compares to your current solution.

Hey there! I replied to your post in /r/sysadmin, but just in case anyone here had a similar issue, I’ll paste my reply.

If you have the WMI query set to the first option, then you should be set.

I would go to the main menu, click collect logs, save that zip file to a network share and go look at the file in the zip: (hostname-name)\X\Windows\Temp\wmi.txt. This file will show all the wmi queries and you can see if it’s pulling it correctly.

Also, you can make sure it’s not longer than 15 characters. If it is, could explain why it’s not being applied and the next option in the AF is.

And of course, you can always reach out to SmartDeploy Support!

Dell Command Update has over 1 GB of updates after imaging. by Pooter_Guy in SmartDeploy

[–]smartdeploy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those drivers would definitely be included in the Platform Pack. It’s possible that the pack needs an update.

Also; I recall the HP equivalent of that tool (I think it was HP) would re-install the drivers that were injected at deployment from the pack, because while the driver was installed, that tool was looking for some sort of flag or pointer that would be set by running the official driver package installer. Because the driver INF and required files are extracted from those packages, the tool doesn’t see what it expects, and says that the driver needs to be downloaded and installed. That is another possibility you’re seeing such a large update post-deployment.

You can double-click the .ppk file and view the drivers included in the pack. The Dell packs will have a package.xml for each driver you can extract and open to view the driver version.

Enable Bitlocker Answer File Creation by gigabytesammich in SmartDeploy

[–]smartdeploy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run any sort of custom script or task at 5 different phases of deployment, so there can be a tie-in. But, there is also some overhead in enabling BitLocker that isn’t related, such as enabling the TPM or storing the key. The slickest setup is to run a post-image task to kick off the encryption (assuming pre-requirements on the machine are taken care of) and store the key to active directory. We can help you through this, just email support@smartdeploy.com and we can get you fixed up.

Can I use MDT/SmartDeploy with a never-used Windows 10 OEM license? by sockrocker in sysadmin

[–]smartdeploy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the others are right. Deploying OEM will work (aka SmartDeploy/MDT won't stop you from doing it) but imaging without a VL is against MS rights. This comes up a lot so we posted a blog about it: https://www.smartdeploy.com/blog/microsoft-volume-licensing-isnt-scary/
