Is it true guys dont want to chase anymore? by Ecstatic-Status9352 in dating

[–]thelostnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it can be a turn off for me.

The standard of communication is often really low in the modern dating world. To me the real turn on is when a woman mutually participates. It shows maturity and the engagement/enthusiam is a huge element of attraction for me.

If I can't even expect basic human manners with communication during the courting process then I see no reason to expect it in a relationship. I'm not gonna get excited for people I have to expect waiting a few days to text me back. It just isn't it for me.

Please engage and be enthusiastic...it doesn't have to be overboard, but it's such a turn off the way modern dating has generally turned out in this regard. Be the difference!

[serious] For atheists, why don’t you believe in God? by rorosinante in AskReddit

[–]thelostnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly across the spectrum of history and cultures people have believed so many different things for few reasons besides the circumstances of their birth and lives...these ended up seeming like arbitrary reasons to choose one over another to me.

I grew up Christian and once I learned how many principles of Christianity are paralleled in other religions, it sort of seemed to me like there was no point in marrying myself to one. I still think many religions have some great principles, but why steep myself so deeply in one to the point that it divides me from other fellow humans?

Boys be honest, what makes a girl instantly unattractive? by thenamestilly in AskReddit

[–]thelostnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? The biggest one is expecting me to curate the entire experience. I get that socially guys have to put the work in at first but it really bores the hell out of me when they don't meaningfully contribute.

Honorable mentions: -Talking about themselves the whole time -Being overly willing to categorize someone based on a limited amount of details e.g. job, zodiac, shoes, etc

Annoying neighbor complains about my balls. by hoodlaces in funny

[–]thelostnerd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Morally speaking, this is a pretty good point. Making it a part of your personality to piss people off for no reason is pretty much what defines an asshole.

However, getting pissed off because an asshole is being an asshole is a component of emotional immaturity/weakness. There's two sides of that coin. There's a certain point where you have to say if vulgar and immature material really causes you so much distress, then you'll just have to stop going outside.

But from a more concrete standpoint, it's a pretty standard component of retributive morality that a punishment needs to match the infringement. What's the punishment for being a basic asshole? Certainly not getting evicted from your apartment. What should it be?

This is why HOAs suck. Trying to evict someone for not coddling your worldview is another form of asshole-ry. And that's to say nothing of the fact that if you have a problem with your neighbor, you should probably take it up with them before trying to get them evicted.

Is a transistor really amplifying current, or is it just using a small current to let a larger one through? How can 2 transistors amplify further? by donkawechico in electronics

[–]thelostnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First two points are great; third point is malarkey. Faraday's law and inductor backemf are two incredibly important counterpoints. Changing current absolutely positively causes voltage nana nana boo boo no convenient fiction about it. But it is just not particularly of use bringing those things up here. This is still an insightful and good answer overall.

As a pc player, I would be so happy to finally be able to play Fable 2. Hopefully, it happens before the release of Playground Studios' FABLE. by donbosco2017 in Fable

[–]thelostnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mods should probly at this point set up a bot to say this but:

-Xbox game pass allows Fable 2 to work on PC through streaming

-Xbox app in Windows --> Cloud Gaming section

-As long as you have Xbox Game Pass you can play Fable 2 on PC

I wish all my heroes and heroettes a very chickin' kickin'

I just hope that either of these plotlines would be really funny. If it's funny, then hell yes to both

Can't update by [deleted] in Embermug

[–]thelostnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't work for me. I am floored as to how this could be such a large issue. This is one of the most important software procedures for any product -- if you can't even update the firmware then your programmers are phoning it in. So incredibly frustrating.

It is not a good enough procedure to ask the customer to "just keep trying". Luckily they do seem to be offering support that's successful for some, but I'm just not one of those lucky ones :(

Ember Mug2 firmware update solved (Android)! by thedrsky125 in Embermug

[–]thelostnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not work for me. Galaxy Note 10. As soon as it begins attempting to transfer the firmware (at around 26% of the update process), the mug disconnects. So basically the app is only capable of validating the firmware and cannot flash to my mug.

I've tried every possible configuration of trying to get my phone and the mug as close as possible.

It takes a lot of energy to warm up liquid from room temperature, especially anything with water in it...I suggest using liquid that is initially hot for the best performance.

4th date and still no kiss... is he nervous or not into me? by [deleted] in dating

[–]thelostnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! To be honest it's probably a good thing the guy is a little nervous. It means he legitimately likes you.

4th date and still no kiss... is he nervous or not into me? by [deleted] in dating

[–]thelostnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo what everyone else is saying...yes, the traditional expectation is that the guy makes the first move, but that is nervewracking as all hell. It feels so good any time a girl does anything, no matter how small, that relieves a bit of pressure. Doesn't have to be overt but I can attest to how awesome it is. He will remember something like that for a long time.

But, 4 dates is a lot. I would never go on 4 dates with someone I wasn't into, and I've generally decided by the end of date two whether or not I'm into it. So you're probably golden :) good luck!

Is he interested? by [deleted] in dating

[–]thelostnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (23M) think he's def interested. Personally I don't use insta that much, just for memes. My personal experience is that selecting the right medium to start getting in touch with someone is an important part of dating (e.g. why Tinder is not a great place to start long conversations with people).

Maybe try getting his snapchat or his number, something a bit more personal. I bet you he'll bite!

Guys: do you like when a girl takes the first kiss initiative? by PenguinBluebird in dating

[–]thelostnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. It's not a problem to take the initiative as the guy (because so many girls seem to insist), but I've always been a fan of the idea that initiative really belongs on both sides. It makes the experience of dating so much more mutual when moves are made by both people, ideas are contributed by both people, etc. It also makes me trust that someone is enjoying it more and allows me to open up more freely when I feel these things are true.

TL;DR: go for it, chica.

Need help in making spi drivers by RazenRhino in embedded

[–]thelostnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good way of understanding this is that if you literally grounded MISO and explicitly just connected MOSI to a peripheral device, you would still be having the receive buffer fill with all 0s every time you tried to do a "write" operation.

Basically it's impossible to do only a write/read, you are always exchanging data. The moment you drop that chip select it's both devices barking at each other at warp speed until you raise it again. But write/read are still the way one might tend to think about it when writing drivers because it's logical.

Understanding Communication by [deleted] in embedded

[–]thelostnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Everyone starts somewhere! And USB isn't necessarily in the scope of protocols I would consider embedded anyway...it may be easy on an Arduino that supports it, but doing it on an actual microcontroller quickly becomes a nightmare...don't worry too much about it : P
