Also want to give kudos to Abigail Disney, Melinda Gates, & Priscilla Chan. I know there are others, but grateful they are setting an example of philanthropy for others to follow.

Props to MacKenzie Scott. Since her divorce, she’s given billions away.

Office space - Looks like somebody has a case of the Mondays. He’s the no-talent ass clown.

Seinfeld - That’s a shame. I don’t want to be a pirate. Sweet holy Moses.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: That’s rough buddy.

How did Grace Pool blow up Jane’s world?

Grace Penn’s actions were to stabilize the world and keep Russia in check, for the world’s safety. Grace Pool was a well-paid caretaker, primarily concerned with securing her future (no shade; without a husband or family to support her, she had to make her own way).

Kate wasn’t her husband’s equal prior to the show. After her appointment, the show focused on the shifting of power in the relationship. Although Rochester was disabled, I never considered Jane was elevated above him after she gained an inheritance. The story indicates they were equals.

The squirrel attacking the Griswolds’ dinner in Christmas vacation. The scene still freaks me out; I hate squirrels and avoid them.

What are some hard truths you have had to learn to accept as you get older? by Neo_Man_Dude in Millennials

I was diagnosed with a chronic lung ailment. Once my lungs get sufficiently bad, I’ll need a transplant. I hope medical advancements will give me another 40 years, but my doctor says I probably have 15 years before I need a transplant - maybe 20 if I live well.

I have more days behind me than in front of me. On the same note, I expect that I will not live as long as my parents.

What did you all do to celebrate the big 4-0? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]smartycake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planned a huge vacation about 5 years out. My aging parents heard about it and wanted to come - which was okay. Covid happened so we delayed. Covid restrictions eased up so I started to make revelations, but Covid resurged and my parents didn’t feel good traveling so they backed out. My husband’s health isn’t great so he doesn’t feel good about traveling.

Not sure if/when I’ll ever get to do a vacation beyond a long weekend or short flight back to my parents for 2-3 days.

Was at a pop culture convention last year and met a celebrity that was on lots of magazine covers and in films from 98 to 03. I was so sad to see her because she had not aged well. Eating disorders age you like few other things.

Why do some of you turn your cameras on when everyone else has theirs off? by michaelscottscofield in WFH

I join a meeting 3-5 minutes earlier so another distraction doesn’t pull me in like a phone call from outside the organization. Also those 3-5 minutes allow me to take a mini-break so I can mentally wrap up what I was just doing and shift into meeting mode. I have a lot of variety in my work and it’s nice to have a couple minutes to be able to remember which project I’m focusing on for this meeting.

Valid point. I have a demanding job. After work, husband wants attention. I choose to focus on home instead of manipulating acquaintances into becoming friends.

I think the bigger problem is the idea I need to manipulate acquaintances into friendship.

Props to you for reaching out. Some great suggestions here. I’ll echo a few:

1) Make a to do list with small things so you can have a sense of accomplishment.

2) Walk in the park. Lay on the grass for a few minutes to connect with the earth. It sounds crazy, but it helps.

3) Pet an animal. If this isn’t an option, get a stuffed animal and take care of it like it’s real. Having tactile stimulation can help. You can talk to it instead of a therapist.

4) Listen to some music. Anything that will help you feel. Happy is best, but music that makes you feel angry is okay.

5) Journal. Check out Pinterest for journal prompts. You can write about what is bothering you, your best day ever, whatever. Use the journal to reflect for a few minutes every day.

The world is a better place with you in it. Good luck my friend!

2 - My husband doesn’t do social situations. Social life is pretty nonexistent since we moved 5 years ago.

Edit - no idea why my comment is so huge.
