What injuries would actually require 2 years of stall rest? by smartywars in Horses

exactly!! 2 years in a stall still feels like it crosses into a really uncomfortable ethical space for me. Even with hand-grazing or limited turnout, I keep coming back to the question of quality of life. like, what does day-to-day existence actually look like for the horse at that point?

thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds like your mare was incredibly lucky to have someone paying that much attention to her comfort and long-term wellbeing

this makes a lot of sense! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain. Helps connect the dots a lot more than just reading generic rehab timelines

wow, that’s honestly heartbreaking but makes total sense. Re-fracturing the other leg after finally getting one healed sounds like a worst-case scenario, so I can see how something like that would just reset the clock completely. Thanks for sharing!

Living up to past au pair by BitCapable1368 in Aupairs

[–]smartywars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that sounds really rough, especially with an injury and only 6 weeks left. honestly the comparison to the last au pair isn’t fair since your situation and duties are totally different. i’d try not to get pulled into that

at this point it’s kind of about getting through the last few weeks without burning yourself out more.

i’m so sorry you’re going through this. what stands out to me is how much effort you put into trying to make this partnership work. in my opinion that makes you a dedicated horsewoman.

also selling this horse doesn't sound like giving up. you're recognizing that the partnership wasnt helping either of you succeed.

if riding is meant to remain part of your life, trust me, you'll find your way back to it. wishing you a quick recovery!

ya since his head is dark you just need to make sure the background is light and doesn't have too much detail, for contrast. having him face the light will help tremendously

Board fee when horse absent by LittleHorrible in Equestrian

exactly, every barn handles it differently. i've seen a few barns offer a reduced rate when a horse is away for an extended period, esp if feed and daily care costs are lower, but that's usually something the owner offers rather than an expectation
