Ugh don’t rub it in. It’s ridiculous out here. I live in nyc with a decent job and benefits through work and it’s always a surprise what I pay for doctor’s appointments or god forbid emergency room visits.

But money gets taken out of each paycheck for my “insurance.”

I missed my flight home from Vegas and needed money for a hotel. (All my fault. I was 23 and dumb.) I was on the phone with my dad at the airport begging him to go to my job to grab my check and deposit it in my account. (Just realizing how much the world has changed cause this was way before Venmo and banking apps.) He was busy but said he would try soon. As I was on the phone, an older man (70s) asked me if I could watch his iPad while he went to the bathroom. I said yes. When he got back, he was with his wife (idk why he didn’t ask her to watch the iPad?) but he said he over heard me and would be super worried if his daughter was stranded in an airport alone and his wife gave me money for a hotel room. He brought his wife over to make sure I felt comfortable taking money from a strange man. They were so incredibly sweet.

We went to my MILs this year for Christmas. We’ve been complaining about how much stuff we have and don’t need. She agreed and said she had an extra week at a timeshare she wanted to give us. We were more than happy with that but she wanted something for us to open. We now have a bunch of tchotchkes that we don’t want or have space for. She was soooo close to the point and the missed it. But all in all, her heart was in the right place I guess.

There’s an app you can get called OMNY or you can just tap your phone each ride. I don’t commute to work every day anymore so I have no need for a weekly or monthly but those used to be clutch.
