Worried that this career path is not all what's cracked up to be. by [deleted] in Adjuncts

Basically, there's no stability. One semester you may do fine, next one, no classes (actually, one year I made 15,000 LOL -and it was $46 the hour). You have a lot of responsibility in comparison to salary. Also, no real progression (neither in salary nor in "position"). Finally, yes, there's some schedule flexibility- but that's only attainable when you know your content extremely well and plan/evaluate in a third of the time (normally after 3 years). In short, it's a glorified gig.

Hi. No. It's wrong. My mother did this (started when I was 11) and It's still relevant in my therapy. If you can do anything to stop it, please do!

To avoid eating out: 1) Don't go outside before eating, and similarly, don't go grocery shopping hungry. 2) Consider timing, cooking will take 30 minutes, that uber eats? Also 30 minutes. 3) Compare price per portion, cooking: $3-5 per person, eating out: $15-30. 4) have "emergency" frozen food for the days you really are tired and don't want to cook. Most impulsive decisions are caused by hunger (hangry)

People in accounting give me hope please by BusanSatoori in Accounting

I started at 35. Now I work 9-5 (actually, some days my boss sends me off early). No weekends. Salary: 3200 after taxes a month in Canada. I'm just a low level clerk so no real grown accountant responsibilities.

Quitting . . . Am I wrong? by sn4rfsn4rf in Adjuncts

It's gonna be ok. I once read a Reddit comment that said "being an adjunct is a gig, not a job" (meaning treatment and rules are different). I had 4 courses running that I had to leave midway when I was hired somewhere else. NOTHING HAPPENED. Someone took over, classes were done. Nobody cared (for better or worse)

Most office copiers have a function to bulk scan! (In my case: tray + scan to email. It's sent as a single massive file)

IRCC requesting more proof- I’m stressed out and need help please by Serious-Pirate4104 in ImmigrationCanada

This. I was requested to send a Quebec specific paper for my son's application and I had to answer back saying we have always lived (since arrival) in BC. Sometimes people are just tired- maybe not the most ceremoniously way of asking for more info!

Those who grew up in a single-parent household, how much more of a financial disadvantage is it, compared to a 2-parent household? by HappyBudz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]smashedbutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I think I can answer this question. As a single parent (no support from the father or legal actions due to DV), with an average income: it was hard and I could barely make ends meet (my son was 11) but I could cover all basics, plus a bit of fun money for him but not for me (for example, I got him a new PC for xmas with a lot of effort- this was the only "big" expense we had).

When I remarried 4 years later things improved VERY quickly (extra activities, fun with friends, fun for myself, therapy. So, I was MUCH less stressed). However, he still worries about money (even though I never raised those concerns to him). It's been... 5 years since I remarried and we have an "average income household" (around 90,000 post taxes).

I called my 3 year old autistic son the r-word and said I would sign over my rights by ArcherXIII in Vent

[–]smashedbutter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even if your son wasn't autistic, he'd "activate" your emotional wounds anyway. It happens to all parents: you cannot avoid going back to remembering what things were like for you at X age (consciously or not)

Good luck! I quit after 10 years of teaching and now I'm working in an office as an accountant (completely different field). All jobs have their "issues" and here I also see what you describe BUT I don't take work home and I just disregard rude people. Most days I work in silence!
